Oct. 2. Henry Guy to the Governor and Company of the Bank of England. My Lords have considered how the 600,000l. remaining of your subscriptions may be brought into the Exchequer most for the accommodation of their Majestics' affairs and the case of your Corporation. Their thoughts at the present for the payment are as follows: l. Out Letters (General) XIV, p. 302.
by 60,000l. a week for five weeks successively, beginning with this week 300,000
by 25,000l. a week for four weeks then next ensuing 100,000
by 50,000l. a week for four weeks then next following 200,000
But in case the service should not call for the money so fast as such times of payment shall accrue, my Lords will take care not to draw it so speedily out of your hands. And on the other side if the service should be more urgent they will take care to give you such timely notice as may enable you to comply with any speedier payment as may be desired. In the margin: “this letter not agreed to by the Bank.”

Oct. 5. Royal warrant, under the Queen's sign manual, to Sir Edmund Andross, kt., Governor of Virginia, to pay out of the quit rents of said Colony to Capt. Thomas Gardner the 175l. remaining due to him of the 200l. reward to which he is entitled by Proclamation in Virginia for seizing Nathaniell Bacon, chief in the rebellion there in 1676, of which reward he has only received 25l., as appears from a letter of Lord Howard, late Governor of Virginia. Same to the Clerk of the Signet for a privy seal for an annuity, pension or yearly payment of 50l. to the churchwardens of the town of Hampton for the use and support of the poor inhabitants of said town, in view of the town's great expense in supporting its poor and also of the many foreign poor sent thither from the royal palace of Hampton Court: to be payable quarterly from Michaelmas, 1694, during pleasure: to be distributed as the vicar of the parish and the underhousekeeper of Hampton Court Palace shall direct. In yours of to-day you inform my Lords that 500l. is ready to be paid forthwith in part of the debt owing by Mr. James Graham to the Crown, “if the same may be accepted at present,” and that he is endeavouring to raise the rest and will wait on my Lords in a few days. You are to take care that it be paid into the Exchequer to-morrow. In case all possible endeavours are used by him for the speedy raising of the said residue you are to forbear all process against Graham till further order. Ibid, p. 304.

Treasury reference to the Excise Commissioners of the petition of John Holford, an officer of Excise, shewing that he became indebted 350l. to the Crown and was suspended from his employment, since which he has paid 100l. and is unable to pay more: therefore praying to be discharged from the remainder. Same to Sir Christopher Wren of Michaell Studholme's estimate of 239l. 18s. 0d. for repairing the footway from Hyde Park gate to the King's house [at Kensington]. Ibid.
Royal warrant, under the Queen's sign manual, to the Lords Justices, Ireland, to pay 500l. to Margaret Maurice, widow of the late Dean of Londonderry, either by a pension of 50l. per an. on the Civil List of Ireland for ten years from June 24 last or by directing the persons in whose hands now remain the several quantities of brass money which were coined by the late Earl of Tyrconnel and left in the stores of Limerick, Galway and Dublin (the value whereof may amount to 300l.) to deliver over the same to the said Margaret and by a pension as above for 50l. per an. for four years to make up the said 500l.: all in consideration that the profits of the said Deanery due at the death of her said husband were given from her. Same to same for a lease to Widow Brown of the forfeited lands in the baronies of Duhallow and Muskerry, co. Cork, which are mentioned in her petition, supra, p. 709: the lease to be for 21 years at such reasonable rent as said Lords Justices shall think fit: they having in their letter of Aug. 15 last certified that she deserves the royal charity, but they cannot find anything of equal value to that [those lands] for which she petitions. Same to same to insert on the present and on all future establishments of the Civil List of Ireland a pension of 100l. per an. to Dorothy Hubblethorn, widow, and Charles Hubblethorn, her son, to be payable quarterly from Lady day last until further order. This warrant is to supersede the royal letter of July 20 last, supra, p. 713, the Lords Justices having reported in reply to that letter that hitherto all grants of this nature have been charged upon the revenue in general and not upon any particular branch, and that the carrying out of the arrangement in said letter may prove prejudicial to our service by the example of it. William Lowndes (in the absence of Henry Guy) to Mr. Clarke to procure a royal warrant, to be signed by the Queen, to authorise the Paymasters of the Forces, Ireland, to pay 200l. to Sir Joseph Herne to satisfy a bill of exchange drawn by him on Messrs. Francis Arther and Company in Madrid Jan. 26 last for 888 pieces of Eight and seven rials payable to Balda[rick] Odonnell: same to be placed to the account of said O'Donnell in part of his pension of 500l. per an. on the establishment of Ireland. Travers, Surveyor General of Crown Lands, for a particular of a tenement in the manor of Treverbyn Courtney, parcel of the Duchy of Cornwall, in order to a lease thereof to William Paschoe for 31 years from Nov. 2 last at the old rent of 9s. per an. and fine of 218l. 10s. 0d. Prefixing: said Surveyor General's report on said Paschoe's petition for same. The tenement was granted in May, 1661, to Warwick Hele.
Same [to the Surveyor General of Crown Lands] for a particular of premises, ut supra, pp. 617–8, in order to a lease thereof to John Roberts for the lives of him and — Roberts his wife and Richard Selwood, at the former rent of 3l. 6s. 8d. per an. and fine of 40l. Ibid, p. 352.
Prefixing: said Surveyor General's report on said Roberts' petition for same. In 1684 Thomas Saunders obtained a lease of the scite of the manor of Shippon, co. Berks, part of the Duchy of Cornwall, for 99 years, terminable on the lives of him, Jane Saunders and Richard Selwood. The “son,” Thomas Saunders, is since dead and petitioner purchased the interest of said Jane and Richard. The tenement is surveyed at 27l. per an., but is now let for 24l. Saunders renewed his interest three times since 1660. The premises are out of repair owing to petitioner's poverty. The exchange desired is of a young person's life for petitioner's wife.
