1700. March 29.	Report to the Treasury Lords from William Blathwayt, Auditor General of the Plantations, on the above petition of M. Richier. After the vacating the charter of the Bermuda Company, Sir Robert Robinson being appointed Lieut. Governor of those Islands by commission under the great seal in 1686 was allowed for his support in that government 12 shares of land in the Bermudas at the value of 60l. per an. and the profits arising by fishing for whales at the value of 100l. per an. as also 240l. per an. to be received out of such part of his Majesty's revenues as his Majesty should appoint; which [revenue] not being sufficient to defray that charge a privy seal passed directing that the said 240l. per an. should be paid out of the Exchequer in England.
	In 1689 the petitioner was appointed Lieut. Governor of those islands with the above allowances of 240l. per an. as from 3 April 1690 but as he did not arrive there before 10 Jan. 1691–2 Sir Robert Robinson continued in that Government and was thereby entitled to the said 240l. per an. until that date. The petitioner continued in the said Government until 10 Aug. 1693 when he was succeeded by Capt. Goddard to whom the said 240l. was granted as from 1 March 1692–3. It results therefrom that the said 240l. per an. has been accruing for nine months to two Governors at the same time, which amounts to 180l. to each of them. If the petitioner's allowance be reckoned only to 1 March 1692–3 his arrears will amount to 158l. as in his petition, he having been paid to 3 July 1692. But if same be allowed him only from 10 Jan. 1690–1 to Aug. 1693 there will be due to him 80l. "the petitioner not being charged by the accompts transmitted from the Bermudas with any money received from the revenues of those islands during his Government there."
