on the said service in future "and towards refunding the great

Blathwayt having received information of a tract of land of considerable

between Maryland and Pennsylvania does humbly propose that a

Treasurer containing an information of a prize taken in the West
Indies. By my last [incoming] letters from Maryland I have received
advice from my correspondent there that her Majesty's ship Oxford,
Capt. Moore, Commander, on his way thither has taken a French
prize loaden with sugar, which was condemned by a Court of Vice-Admiralty
in that [Maryland] Government and that there being no
officer commissioned by the Commissioners of her Majesty's Prize
Office to take care of the Queen's interest it was put into the hands
of Mr. George Plater, Receiver of her Majesty's revenue in the
District of Patuxent River. The value of the ship and goods is
said to amount to 6000l. sterling besides what was between decks
which was the men's plunder there being 600 hogsheads of sugar in
the hole, which proves generally very good.

prize the ship St. Andrew from Martinique and delivered her to
Sir Cloudesley Shovell who sent her to Plymouth : that afterwards
in the action at Vigo "petitioner was placed one of the first ships
to attack the boom with Sir Thomas Hopson and there seized a
galleon : great part of her lading was put aboard his ship the Mary
and afterwards when she came up the river was taken out in presence
of Sir Cloudesley, one of the Prize Commissioners and the Customs
House officers, exactly according to the account to which Sir
Cloudesley had charged the petitioner. But one Humphrey Staples
a seaman of the said ship Mary informing that the petitioner had
privately put on shore at Plymouth part of the goods taken out of
the St. Andrew prize viz. 11 bags of cocoa, 50 [pound weight] each,
2 barrels of tortoise shell and 2 casks of sugar and that he had put
on shore at Gravesend 5 powder barrels full of cochineal weighing
100 [pound] each being part of the goods taken at Vigo, a verdict
last term was given against the petitioner for 500l. upon the single
testimony of the said Staples : and whereas the petitioner can
prove that he [the informer] was not on board the ship at the time
the informer swears he was aiding and assisting in running the barrels
of cochineal, which barrels the informer swears weighed 100 each
though it appears by the prize books a powder barrel full of cochineal
weighs no more than 60 pounds" therefore prays relief in consideration
of the little credit to be given to the said Staples. Reference
