May 26. Royal warrant to the Attorney or Solicitor General for a lease to William Jessopp of premises as follow, which were part of the possessions of the late Hospital in the Savoy : on surrender of a grant made 1683-4 Feb. 9 by the Master and Chaplains of the Savoy to Elizabeth South and Elizabeth Butler.
Appending : constat and ratal by the Surveyor General of Crown Lands of the premises : being free rents in Hodrod, &c., &c., detailed at length, parcel of the late monastery of St. Oswalds co. Treasury reference to the Principal Officers of the Mint of the petition of the Provost and Corporation of Moneyers shewing that in the reign of the late Queen Mary [Mary I] when there was no work at the Mint her Majesty made an allowance to each Fellow Moneyer of 30l. per an. till such time as the Mint should be at work : that there is no work at present and petitioners are in mean circumstances : therefore praying relief. Same to the Commissioners of Transports of the petition of Chr. Browning praying a debenture for 72l. for the hire of the ship Fortune for carrying soldiers to France in 1691. Ibid.

Warrant by Treasurer Godolphin to the Prizes Commissioners to direct their officers at Lisbon to sell such prize ships and goods there as are in a perishing condition and unfit to be brought into England. Warrants not Relating to Money XVIII, p. 243.
Warrant by Treasurer Godolphin to the Surveyor General of Crown Lands for a particular of a narrow slip of ground 46 feet by 380 feet on the back-side of the grove of elms adjoining to St. James's Park in order to a lease thereof to the Earl of Rochester for 50 years at 10l. per an. rent and fine of 250l.
Prefixing : said Surveyor General's report on said Earl's petition for same. The ground is bounded on the south by said grove ; on the west by a drying yard attached to Prince Rupert's house ; on the east by the old spring and on the north by the backside of certain houses fronting the street leading from Charing Cross to the Pall Mall. On part of the ground there now stands a small house and some sheds for coach houses and stables which are so much in decay that they are in danger of falling. The ground was formerly in the possession of Prince Rupert together with the said drying yard and a small kitchen garden extending westward to the passage formerly leading into St. James's Park by the Royal Garden, and ever since his death the premises have been enjoyed by the Earl of Sussex without any title from the Crown. For I find that the said Earl petitioned for them in 1689 alleging that Charles II promised him a grant thereof without rent : which petition being referred to the then Surveyor General, in his absence Mr. Tailer reported that the premises with an addition of 11 feet 9 inches in breadth at the west end and 20 feet at the east end, to be taken out of the said grove (as his lordship then desired, to make it more straight and commodious) was valued by him at 4s. the foot as building ground on the greatest improvement the premises were capable of. The present petitioner has paid the Earl of Sussex 30l. per an. rent for same for many years. He intends to continue the premises for a stable yard. Warrants not Relating to Money XVIII, p. 244.

Royal warrant to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland to clear and pay the arrears due to the detachment of 1500 private soldiers which are ordered to be drawn out of the Regiments of Foot in Ireland to be transported to Portugal ; to wit to the day of their embarcation. Treasury reference to the Postmasters General of the petition of Edmund Dummer setting forth the extraordinary charges and expense he has been at in his contract with the Postmasters General for pacquet boats between Falmouth and Lisbon occasioned by the difficulties of a winter season and procuring men to sail there "which he considers may be considered [as] extra [to] the 2000l. ordered for his expenses in the said contract." Same to the Customs Commissioners of the petition of Stephen Thompson shewing that at the proclaiming war he had considerable effects at Bordeaux and that ever since he has endeavoured to bring home his effects from thence by a servant that resided there ; that Mr. Craven is now at sea in an English ship freighted with Bordeaux wine and cork being the produce of petitioner's effects : therefore praying that same may be admitted to an entry. Prefixing : (a) order of the Queen in Council dated 1703 June 16 for the payment to Sampson Rattenbury and others, islanders of the island of Scilley, of one third of the net proceeds of the ship Trinity of Rochelle, a French boat seized by them on the Proclamation of war against France and Spain. The premises were granted in 1662 to John Carter and assigned to Randall Dod and in 1679 demised to Thomas Dod on surrender who assigned in 1693 to Thomas Simpson of the city of Chester Alderman, who assigned a moiety to Richard Wright who assigned to Edward Glegg for whose descendants petitioner is executor in possession, Ibid., p. 255.
Warrant by Treasurer Godolphin to the Auditors of Imprests to allow to Richard Crawley in his account as Receiver of Salvage money and other Droits and Perquisites of the Admiralty, 60l. per an. for a clerk instead of 40l. per an. and 5 per cent. for his own trouble and pains in collecting and accounting for the said salvage money. May 31. Royal warrant to the Clerk of the Signet for a privy seal for 3000l. to Sir Charles Hedges for secret service : as a Secretary of State. The like for 2000l. to Robert Harley Esq. for same as a same. (Money warrants dated respectively July 17 and June 20 hereon. The warrants quote the privy seal as dated June 14). Same to John Dodd, Receiver General of the Rights and Perquisites of the Admiralty, to pay 100l. to James Garfeild, Commander of the privateer called the Swift sloop, for his concern in the capture of two Dutch ships which were prosecuted and condemned as prize in the Admiralty Court for trading to France, he having compounded with the Dutch claimers in order to avoid possible disputes with the States General and in hopes of some consideration from the Queen : the Dutch by direction of the Dutch Envoy having appealed for relief from the condemnation, insisting that the ships are not liable to confiscation for that they had not traded to France since the prohibition of commerce published in Holland. Same to Treasurer Godolphin to give warrant to the Surveyor General of Woods Trent South to deliver to the Purveyor of the Navy at Portsmouth the trees blown down in New Forest by the late storm, being 1575 oaks, 535 beeches, and two elms and also to fell and similarly deliver 500 other trees fit for the Navy. Warrant by Treasurer Godolphin to the Receipt to deliver to Guy Palmes, late one of the four Tellers of the Receipt, 1400l. out of moneys of the Additional Ninepenny Excise appropriated for payment of the Million Lottery Tickets : to be paid in Exchequer Bills and as in part of 1739l. 17s. 4d. of said bills missing from his Office, having been by some fraudulent practice or device embezzled by Robert Presgrave, chief clerk to the said Palmes ; the said Palmes having been very instrumental in the recovery of same in the hope he should have the benefit thereof towards satisfaction of the great loss he sustained by the undue and corrupt practices of the said Presgrave.
