Nov. 1 afternoon. Present : ut supra.
See what is due from my Lord Culpeper for Poll money or Subsidy [and is] given in charge to the sheriff of co. Midd. [to levy by distraint].
The Auditors of Imprests are called in. Ibid., p. 14.
Nov. 6 afternoon. Present : ut supra.
The Navy Commissioners and Mr. Smith [are called in and are heard by my Lord]. The point is whether dotard and decayed trees in New Forest be sold standing or first felled and to be then sold [after or] when any part fit for shipping is taken out for the Navy.
My Lord Treasurer resolves that no such timber be sold standing but that the woodward do give notice to the officers of the Navy to attend first the marking of such dotard and decayed trees as are to be felled and to attend again on the felling of the same ; and when they have chosen and taken out so much as may be fit for the service of the Navy, if any such be, the woodward is then to make sale of the residue pursuant to my Lord's warrant from time to time, observing the Act of Parliament in that behalf, and [obeying strictly the terms of such warrant to him] the woodward for delivering to the officers of the Navy such timber as is fit for the Navy by indentures to be executed in the usual form.
And direct the woodward [of New Forest] to observe this method in the execution of his former warrant still unexecuted.
Refer to Mr. Wilcox [Surveyor of Woods Trent South] that part of the Commissioner Gifford's letter [William Gifford, Navy Commissioner at Portsmouth] which concerns the planting of elms and [request him] to give my Lord a true account of the present state of the late enclosures made [in New Forest] pursuant to the Act. [9 William III c. 33].
[Send] to the Navy Commissioners and Sir Thomas Littleton and Mr. Nathaniell Herne to be here this day sevennight about the [Navy] Pay Office in Broad Street.
Mr. [William] Spenceley, agent for the Regiment of Col. Carpenter (late Lloyd's,) and Mr. Brian are called in, as to 40l. remainder of 60l. for quarters at Newport in the Isle of Wight. The agent owns this debt but says Col. Carpenter ordered him to pay another debt of 56l. (at the instance of Mr. Took) and several other debts, so he has no money.
My Lord Treasurer orders this 40l. to be paid viz. 10l. down and 10l. every three months successively till the debt be cleared. Ibid., p. 15.

[Send word] to Mr. Madocks to be here on Monday next in the afternoon about Sir Edward Seymour's account.
[My Lord Treasurer directs the issue to the Paymaster of the Works of] 400l. for Mr. Wise on his contract [for the Gardens].
Mr. Foxe's demand of 8424l. 7s. 3½d. for the 40,000 men is read and approved. Ibid., p. 16.

[Send word] to the Customs Commissioners to be here on Monday afternoon. Ibid., p. 17.

Those [persons appointed to attend] for this afternoon [are ordered] to be here on Wednesday afternoon. Ibid., p. 18.

The Navy Commissioners [attend with] Sir Thomas Littleton and Mr. Herne about a new lease for 21 years of the [Navy] Pay Office [in Broad Street. My Lord Treasurer] ordered that Mr. Travers, Surveyor General of Crown Lands, and Sir Christopher Wren do survey the premises (giving notice to Mr. Heron [Herne] to be present) and to rate a fine for such a new lease at 160l. per an. rent.
Mr. Madocks and Mr. Hawes are called in. The latter says that the tallies and orders for 452,090l. 1s. 9¾d. which proved [unpayable by reason of the funds for liquidating same being] deficient on the Wines Act cannot be found, but says none of them are satisfied except the first for 420l. which is charged on Sir Edward Seymour's account [as former Treasurer of the Navy. My Lord Treasurer orders] Mr. Madocks, Mr. Hawes and Mrs. Stephens to be here on Monday afternoon next. Treasury Minute Book XV, p. 19.
Nov. 17 forenoon. Present : Lord Treasurer ; Chancellor of the Exchequer.
[Give notice to the exchange] remitters to bring proposals on Tuesday morning for remitting 100,000l. to Amsterdam viz. one half at 40 days after date and the other at 60 days [after sight : in return] for ready money [paid here in advance]. Ibid., p. 20.

Sir Edward Seymour, Mrs. Stephens and Auditor Bridges are called in [and are heard by my Lord Treasurer who] ordered that the lost orders be looked for in the bags of particulars belonging to the Earl of Danby's or Sir Edward Seymour's former accounts [as formerly severally Treasurer of the Navy] and at Mrs. Stephens' house : and if they cannot be found the Duke of Leeds and Sir Edward ought to [execute a] release.
[Send word] to Mr. Bertie that he may take up 20,000l. on the Land Tax tallies in his hands at an interest not exceeding 5 per cent.
[Send word] to the Comptrollers of the [Accounts of the] Army to attend on Friday evening.
[Likewise to the Principal] Officers of the Works to attend then. Ibid., p. 21.

Upon reading a memorial of Mr. Howe about the demands of the four West India Regiments [my Lord Treasurer] ordered that the said memorial, with the letters of the 5th and 10th inst. from Mr. Cartwright and Mr. Vincent and of Mr. Freke of the 7th inst. be referred to Mr. St. John and to the Comptrollers of the Army Accounts.
Sir Stephen Evance and his partners and Mr. Tourton are called in. They promise to give bills to Mr. Fox on Friday next for two months' subsidy to the Duke of Savoy upon the foot [or basis] of their last contract [the sum to be remitted being] 25,055l. 11s. 1d. : and my Lord [Treasurer assures them he] will take care to supply the money for the said bills as much before Xmas as he can.
