Warrant by Treasurer Godolphin to the Commissioners for the
Victualling to pay 760l. to Richard Maundrell for butter and cheese
provided by him for the service of the Navy viz. for the loss he
sustained by two vessels which were laden therewith and cast away
in the Downs in the violent storm in Nov. 1703.
Appending : (1) report by said Commissioners dated 29 August
on said Maundrell's petition : (2) Report dated Admiralty Office
22 May 1705 by Prince George of Denmark as Lord High Admiral
on the reference of 1704 July 14 to him from the Queen in Council,
of said petition. "The Victualling Board believing it would be a
very great saving to her Majesty if the Contractor for butter and
cheese could be brought to transport the same to Portsmouth and
Plymouth at his own risque and charge of freight" the petitioner
so contracted 6 Sept. 1703 at a very reasonable rate and made a
large and timely provision thereof at those ports and in the winter
season he laded on several vessels considerable quantities of butter
and cheese for supplying the Squadron then expected from Holland
with the King of Spain, two of which vessels viz. the Hannah and
Rebecca and Happy Entrance waiting in the Downs for convoy were
cast away and wholly lost in the great storm as above, having butter
and cheese on board to the value of 845l. for her Majesty's service.

Dec. 23 next by assigning them to Sir Henry Furnese for the value
of bills delivered to you for that purpose Oct. 3 last. His lordship
agrees that interest thereon shall commence from Oct. 3 last.
