Sept. 21. Money warrant dormant for payment of the salary of 300l. per an to Charles Whitacre as Chief Justice of Carmarthen, Pembroke & Cardigan loco Phillip Neave deceased. Money Book XIX, p. 378.
Letter of direction for 6000l. to John Tailer: for buildings &c at Woodstock: out of money now remaining in the Exchequer of loans on tin. Disposition Book XIX, p. 212.
Sept. 21. Treasury reference to Auditor Jett of the petition of Richard Blackbourn Dr. in Physic ut supra, pp. 152–3 together with the Solicitor General's report thereon. Reference Book VIII, p. 312.
Same to Henry Baker of the petition of Joshua Western, prisoner in the Castle of Lincoln, shewing that he has been there for 5 years on a judgment for 1000l. for transporting wool; that one William Marshall of Theddlethorpe was the only prosecutor & is dead & his son in compassion for petitioner's sufferings has freely executed a general release & thereby acquitted his moiety of said fine: therefore praying remission of the Queen's moiety, without which he & his family must unavoidably perish. Sept. 22. Privy seal for 20s. a day ordinary to Robert Jackson “who hath resided at Stockholm as our Commissary there for several years during the absence of John Robinson, our Envoy Extraordinary to the King of Sweden, whom we have thought fit to employ elsewhere,” the said Jackson having been very faithful & diligent in discharging his duty in that place & has been useful to our subjects trading to those parts as well as to our affairs in corresponding from time to time with our Principal Secretaries of State and doing carefully such other matters as were committed to his charge for our service: & has been at considerable expense therein; for which he has hitherto had no allowance. This present grant is to commence as from 1702–3 Feb 9 being the date of his commission as Commissary at Stockholm. Queen's Warrant Book XXIII, p. 438.
Sept. 23. Treasury reference to the Agents for Taxes of the petition of the Commissioners for Land Tax for the Division of Ongar shewing that they are prosecuted for a deficiency in that Division “to raise which they have issued their warrants upon reassessment”: therefore praying stay of process. Reference Book VIII, p. 328.
Sept. 24. Money warrant for 33897l. 4. 4½ to Nehemiah Arnold, Paymaster of the Malt Lottery Ticquets: for the 92nd & 93rd payments of principal & interest thereon; which are the next payments in course.

Sept. 24. William Lowndes to Mr. Brydges [Paymaster General of the Forces Abroad] to report on the enclosed letter [missing] from Col. Cuisack touching his demand of pay. Out Letters (General) XIX, p. 4.
Same to the Auditors of Imprests. In the last Session the House of Commons addressed the Queen to order the stating the accounts of the Officers and soldiers of the 3 French Regiments. The Agent of the said Regiments has now brought to the Lord Treasurer the said accounts or demands. I enclose same which you are to state pursuant to the said Address. Ibid.
Warrant by Treasurer Godolphin to the Customs Commissioners to cause the allowances of 12 superannuated tidesmen to be borne and defrayed by way of average by the 12 junior tidesmen on the establishment from time to time; the said Commissioners having proposed to constitute new tidesmen in their place to do duty for their weekly pay only, leaving the annual pay for the said superannuated officers “the said charge to be borne by way of average among the said new officers”: and further that the “six new [officers] succeeding to the 35l. list [saddled] with this charge [of superannuation] should be first removed into the 40l. list”: which latter proposal the Lord Treasurer sanctioned by his warrant of May 14 last, supra, p. 238, but it is now represented that although several new tidesmen have been since appointed the deductions for the subsistence of the said superannuated officers are still made out of the salaries of the twelve” officers appointed in the said warrant of May 14; which is contrary to what was intended thereby. Treasury reference to the Surveyor General of Crown Lands of the petition of Richard Sowray for a fresh lease of the manor called the Chapter of Beverley, granted by Charles II 1678 July 16 to Hanah Dodgein of Great Yarmouth, which she (under the name of Hanah Reeve) did transfer [to petitioner]. Reference Book VIII, p. 329.
Sept. 24. Same to the Customs Commissioners of the petition of Richard Dent, a landwaiter in London port for 29 years and formerly at Bristol, praying leave to exchange places with Daniel Bate, present surveyor of Exeter port formerly an officer in London port. Ibid., p. 330.
Same to the Navy Commissioners of the petition of Sir James Wishart shewing that he was allowed half pay as rear admiral during his being on shore & was taxed on same by the assessors of the Tower Ward for the years 1706 & 1707 & is returned into the Exchequer for non payment thereof: therefore prays that, being exempted by Act of Parliament, he may be struck out of the list so returned into the Exchequer. Ibid.
Letters patent by Treasurer Godolphin appointing (at the instance of John Duke of Marlborough) Tilleman Bobart jointly with John Vanbrugh & Henry Joynes to oversee &c the buildings at Woodstock; the said Godolphin having thereto appointed the said Vanbrugh as Surveyor of the said works by instrument dated 1705 June 9 and Henry Joynes & William Boulter as joint comptrollers thereof by instrument dated 21 June 1705, and further united the said three by instrument dated 29 July 1706 & the said Boulter is since dead, in whose place the Lord Treasurer hereby appoints the said Bobart.
