Mr. Beranger, agent for Sir Henry Furnese, is called in. My Lord bids him acquaint Sir Henry that he believes it will be for the public service to send a good quantity of corn to Ostend; that twill bear a good price there; that there is now a convoy at Portsmouth under sailing orders thither if he can ship any soon enough to go along with it. |

My Lord also acquaints him that by an agreement made by Prince Eugene & the Duke of Marlborough dated at the Hague April 14 last there were to be 4000 effective Foot soldiers of the German army in Italy sent to Barcelona to the assistance of the King of Spain & that her Majesty was to pay 20 Crowns for each private man (with his clothes & accoutrements) that should be actually put on board [the said payment to be] for raising so many recruits in their stead. His Lordship says if Sir Henry Furnese will give letters of credit for 53900 Crowns for 2695 private men of the said body (which are certified to have been actually shipped) [same to be payable] to Prince Eugene or his order at Frankfort upon his producing the acquittances of the said Prince for the same or any part thereof, he
shall be reimbursed what shall be contained in the said acquittances out of any money in the Exchequer applicable thereto. |

Mr. Beranger promises my Lord that this credit shall be given by this night's post. |

Mr. Brydges comes in & my Lord directs him to transmit the said letters of credit for Prince Eugene to Mr. Cardonel by way of Ostend as well as by the way of Holland and that Mr. Cardonel be acquainted by this post that though my Lord has sent only this credit at present yet as soon as the 4000 men shall be effectually sent to Spain according to the said agreement his Lordship will take care to remit the rest of the money. |

Count Brian¸con is called in. He moves my Lord Treasurer to order the balance due to the D[uke] of Savoy for the Expedition to Toulon anno 1707, being according to the account [which was] sent over by Mr. Chetwynd 338749 livres 2 sols 1 denier money of Piedmont. My Lord agrees thereto and directs that Sir Theodore Janssen do attend next Monday morning with a proposal at what rate [of exchange] he will remit the same & how long he can stay for his payment. Lord Seafield & Baron Smith [are called in &] lay before my Lord Treasurer their memorial relating to the Court of Exchequer in Scotland and several other officers in Scotland. The same are considered & their [sic for my Lord's] opinion [is] written on the margin thereof. |

Sir Theodore Janssen is called in & presents his proposal relating to remittances to Turin, to wit to give his bill for Turin dated Sept 23 last at 60 days for 1066662/3 Crowns: & likewise another bill for Turin at 60 days for 338749 livres 2 sols 1 denier money of Piedmont: both at the rate of 59½ pence sterling per Crown of 82 sols each “and I humbly offer to take tallies upon the present malt [Duties anno 1708] in payment for the same.” |

My Lord Treasurer upon considering the said proposal & discoursing with Sir Theodore thereupon is pleased to agree thereunto and directs the said 2 sums amounting to 46927l. 14. 10 sterling to be issued to Mr. Brydges on the proper orders: out of loans to be made by Sir Theodore Janssen on the Malt Duties anno 1708. |

Write to the Excise Commissioners in Scotland to advance to the Lord Advocate of Scotland or his order a sum of 1500l. out of that part of the Excise which is applicable to the Civil Government: [to be as] on account of defraying the charges of the Circuit Court of the Justiciary in Scotland and the salaries & allowances of the officers & servants attending same. |

If the Bank will advance 20000l. on the orders in the Navy Treasurer's hands on the Land Tax anno 1708 by way of deposit the Lord Treasurer agrees that they shall be repaid out of the money to be paid into the Exchequer by the East India Company on or before Jan 12 next, together with 5 per cent interest. The said sum is intended to be applied as follows viz 9000l. for the Ordinary of the

[Thereupon my Lord] ordered that the Treasurer of the Navy do raise money on the 30000l. tallies on the Land Tax anno 1708 [which are in his hands] by depositing the same with the Bank & that he do in the first place satisfy [thereout] the wages demandable by Act of Parliament & [apply] the remainder to the head of Wages to answer such demands as shall be most pressing. |

The Agents for Taxes & Mr. Hawes [Cashier to Sir T. Littleton] are called in relating to an ass[ignment] from the Marquess of Carmarthen to the Newells of his flag pay. [On hearing them my Lord Treasurer orders that] Sir Thomas Littleton, the Navy Treasurer, is to pay him [the said Marquess] the 280l. by the pr[evious] order and, in regard it doth at present appear that the Marquess is indebted to the Newells, no more money is to be paid to the Marquess till he has either satisfied the said debt or pleaded it off if it be not justly due. |

The Bank of England having agreed to advance to Sir Thomas Littleton, Treasurer of the Navy, 10000l. upon a deposit of Land Tax tallies anno 1708 my Lord Treasurer agrees that the same shall be repaid to them out of the fifth payment to be made by the East India Company on or before Jan 12 next with 5 per cent interest.
