Jan. 21. Privy seal dated Westminster for 500l. for equipage & 5l. a day as ordinary to Henry Worsley as Envoy Extraordinary to the King of Spain. Queen's Warrant Book XXIII, p. 303.
Same for the like equipage & ordinary to Francis Palmer as Envoy Extraordinary to the Duke of Savoy. Ibid., p. 308.
Money warrant for 955l. to Henry Worsley, Envoy Extraordinary to the King of Spain, 500l. thereof as equipage & 455l. for a quarter's ordinary in advance.

William Lowndes to the Duke of Marlborough to report on the enclosed accounts [missing] of Capt. John Webb of his receipts & disbursements with relation to the fortifications of Gibraltar. Out Letters (General) XVIII, p. 386.
Royal warrant dated St James's to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland to insert on the Establishment of Ireland a pension of 3s. a day to Francis La Baldovin as from 1707 June 24: he having brought over 10000l. from France & settled in Waterford in Ireland with his family where he was a considerable trader for many years but met with great losses & is reduced to great extremity & 74 years old with nothing left to support him & his family but a debt owing for the ship Town of St Malo that was lost in the transport service in the late war: he having been formerly Colonel of Horse & Dragoons in the French king's service & possessed of a very considerable estate in France. Jan. 22. Money warrant for 40l. to the Provost & Fellows of Eton College for one year to Xmas last on their perpetuity. Money Book XIX, p. 165. Disposition Book XIX, p. 96.
Jan. 22. William Lowndes to the Customs Commissioners for a certificate of what are the Duties on coals from Whitehaven & Liverpool to the Isle of Man, Ireland & the Plantations & of the Duties on coals carried from Scotland to the said places. Out Letters (General) XVIII, p. 386.
Same to the Master of the Jewel Office for an account what letters you have sent of late for calling in the plate which is standing out [which was provided by your Office to ambassadors & officials at various times and has not been returned]. Ibid.
Jan. 23. Money warrant for 58l. 5. 1 to William Popple junr, Secretary to the Commissioners for Trade, for 1707 Xmas quarter's bill of incidents for said Commission. (Money order dated March 2 hereon.) Money Book XIX, p. 188. Order Book VII, p. 115. Disposition Book XIX, p. 113.
William Lowndes to Mr. Brydges & Mr. St John to report on the enclosed representation [missing] from Dr. Lacaan, physician to the Forces & Hospitals in Spain, concerning medicines & necessaries wanting for the sick & wounded there. Out Letters (General) XVIII, p. 386.
Same to the Victualling Commissioners to reconsider their report on the petition of the owners of several ships let for Lisbon & Jamaica in which they pray an allowance for demurrage & interest on their Victualling [Office] bills for freight; the said owners having now brought a reply thereto. Ibid.
Same to the Navy Commissioners. In reply to yours of the 19th inst I enclose a copy [missing] of the only privy seal for felling timber in New Forest since the last timber was cut there; in order to enable you to comply with the request of the House of Lords for an account of all such privy seals for cutting timber in any of her Majesty's forests. Same to the Customs Commissioners. One John Lucas, formerly a Surveyor of the Duties on Houses in Co Surrey, went off with 363l. 18. 0 of the moneys of the said Duties; whereupon process has issued against several parishes & collectors there. Please examine if the said Lucas is employed in the Customs and if so if he is in circumstances to answer this debt. Ibid.
Same to the Stamps Commissioners to appoint Christopher Marshall as a stamper, the Lord Treasurer having had frequent recommendations of him. Ibid.
Same to Mr. Brydges & Mr. St John to report on the enclosed petition [missing] of the several Officers that served at Gibraltar before the commencement of the Establishment of that garrison, praying their pay for the said time. Ibid., p. 388.
Jan. 24. Letter of direction for 40000l. to James Brydges, Paymaster of the Forces Abroad: as in part of 586671l. 12. 6 for the Forces in Spain & Portugal anno 1708: to be issued out of loans to be made by Sir Henry Furnese viz 20000l. on credit of the Malt Duties anno 1708 & 20000l. on credit of Land Tax anno 1708.
The said 40000l. is intended to be paid over to said Furnese in satisfaction of 2 bills of exchange drawn by him the 21st inst payable in Lisbon at the rate of 5s. 8 ½d. per milrei for the service of the war in Spain, to be applied thereto in such manner as the Lord Treasurer shall direct. Jan. 24. Allowance by Treasurer Godolphin of the salary bill of the Customs Officers, not detailed, of the Plantations for the half year ended 1707 Xmas: total 1249l. 13. 9. Out Letters (Customs) XV, p. 17.
Treasury reference to the Agents for Taxes of the petition of John Ward, one of the sureties of Nathaniell Rich, late Receiver General of Taxes for Co Essex, shewing that he has paid 200l. to the Sheriff in part of said Rich's debt & by the Act of Parliament [Private Act 6 Anne c. 18] is now allowed to compound for his proportion of said debt for 854l. 17. 4 ½: therefore praying that said 200l. may be taken as part thereof.
