Same to the Stamps Commissioners. The enclosed affidavit [missing] of Mary Sparke against Thomas Beresford, a distributor of stamped paper &c. in Co. Somerset, having been laid before my Lords they direct you forthwith to dismiss him. Ibid.
Treasury warrant to the Customs Commissioners to restore Jeremiah Greble to his former place of Deputy Comptroller of Customs at Rye.
Prefixing: report by said Commissioners on said Greble's petition shewing that he was dismissed soon after the election on a trumped up charge for voting for John Norris and Philip Gibbon. Greble was appointed 21 July 1709. The Board being informed of several irregular practices carried on by the officers of that part of the coast did on the 15 Aug. 1713 direct Charles Shelley to inspect Rye port. He reported 31 Aug. 1713 and thereon several articles of charge were sent [by us] to the Collector, George Shuckburgh, since deceased, Mr. Dansey, the Surveyor, and Greble. On their answers we dismissed Greble 27 Oct. 1713 and made several other regulations in the port which we laid before the Treasury. On reconsidering his case and hearing him thereon it appeared that he had committed several irregularities in his duty, which he excuses by a misunderstanding between the then Collector and himself and the irregular practices in use at that port. It does not appear that he was guilty of any fraud and the port is now under a better regulation, the Collector being an officer of good experience. We do not object to his restoration, but pray leave to recommend to your Lordships’ favour Edward Smyth, the present Deputy Comptroller, he having been instructed in this port and well behaved himself. Same to the Attorney or Solicitor General for a privy seal for a fee or salary of 500l. per an. to Richard Topham as Keeper of the Records within the Tower of London, being the salary granted to him by the late Queen Anne during pleasure only, although the grant of said office to him was for his natural life. Treasury warrant to Sir James Bateman et al., Trustees for sale of public South Sea Stock, to repay themselves out of the subscription money for said stock, as it is sold, the further sum of 200,000l. advanced by said Trustees [to the Exchequer] on credit of being repaid out of such subscription money with interest: the repayment thereof when in Course (after payment and discharge of the former sum of 200,000l. similarly lent and secured) to be weekly on every Tuesday in sums of not less than 1,000l. William Lowndes to the Auditors of Imprests. Send my Lords a certificate of the produce of the several branches of the Customs revenue since Michaelmas 1688 so far as the accounts are passed, [such certificates] containing the gross produce of each branch, the several drawbacks, the charge of debentures and the net money actually paid into the Exchequer. Same to the Treasurer of the Chamber to report on the enclosed petition [missing] of Mr. Churchill for payment of 297l. 11s. 3d. due to him upon bills for stationery ware delivered into the Secretary of State's Office in the reign of Wm. III., which he alleges was directed to be paid in the late Treasurer Godolphin's time. Ibid.
Dec. 2. Treasury reference to Thomas Jet, one of the Auditors of Land Revenues, of the petition of Thomas Rudge shewing that he has been Receiver General of [Crown] Land Revenues in the several counties of Southampton, Wilts, Gloucester, Somerset and Dorset ever since January 1694 and did qualify himself upon the demise of her late Majesty pursuant to the Act in that behalf and has regularly accounted from time to time for his receipts: nevertheless without any notice given, or anything laid to his charge, one Mr. Mallet, when Secretary to Sir William Windham, late Chancellor of the Exchequer, has obtained a grant of petitioner's office and thereby great confusion will be occasioned in the accounts of said revenue by petitioner's receiving part and Mallet receiving other part; petitioner conceiving said grant to have been obtained by Mallet by surprise and contrary to what was intended by a letter sent to Sir William Wyndham by order of Treasurer Shrewsbury that none of the Receivers of the Revenue should be removed till the Treasury was acquainted therewith: therefore praying relief. Same to the Customs Commissioners of the petition of Thomas Perrin shewing that for several years he was a considerable trader to Virginia and paid near 100,000l. in Customs, but by great losses at sea is unable to pay his [tobacco] bonds and his effects are extended and he imprisoned in the Fleet for the last two or three years in a miserable condition, having a wife and five small children: therefore praying his liberty. Same to the [Principal] Officers of the Works of the petition of Robert Bedoe for renewal of the Queen's warrant for 100l. per an. to him for cleansing the streets &c. before Whitehall, the same being determined by her Majesty's demise. Ibid., p. 202.

Dec. 3. Royal warrant to Robert Walpole, Paymaster General of Guards, Garrisons and Land Forces, to pay 244l. to John, Duke of Argyll, for his pay 1714 Oct. 25 to Dec. 24 as General and Commander in Chief of the Forces in North Britain, being 61 days at 4l. a day.

Royal warrant dormant dated St. James's to the Treasury Lords by virtue of the general letters of privy seal dated Sept. 29 last, supra, p. 90, to pay all moneys [arrears] due at any time before the death of the late Queen Anne for any fees, salaries, pensions or other annual payments directed by any her letters of privy seal to be paid at the Receipt: all by reason that the several privy seals of the said late Queen which authorised the payment of such fees &c. at the Receipt are become void by her death whereby sums for which warrants have been made out cannot be satisfied nor other sums remaining due thereon at her death. Same to Edward Wilcox, Surveyor General of Woods, Trent South, of the petition of Richard Marshall, Studmaster, shewing that for the better keeping and feeding in the winter his Majesty's stud in Hampton Court House Park it is necessary that there should be a stable built on each side of the park with a paled paddock adjoining to each stable and that the other stables there, with the paling and the deer pens, should be put into good repair so that the stud and deer may be kept apart and preserved from cold, storms and floods. Yorks, part whereof he demised by parole agreement to Geo. Macy, deceased, formerly a Collector of Customs in said port, under the rent of 6l. per an., that Macy by indirect practices procured a mortgage of the messuage and becoming indebted [to the Crown] for Customs the messuage is seized to the King as being effects of Macy: therefore praying relief.
