April 11. J. Taylour to the Stamps Commissioners to report on the enclosed recommendation [missing] from Mr. Farrer in behalf of Mr. John Weaver for the place of distributor of stamps, Co. Beds, in place of the present distributor. Out Letters (General) XXI, p. 367.
Treasury reference to the Surveyor General of Crown Lands of the petition of the ministers and others of the Lutheran Church in the Savoy praying a grant of the chapel which they have with the piece of waste ground and house adjoining thereto in the Savoy, in possession of which they were put by Mr. Manly when he was Surveyor General of Crown Lands. April 12. Royal warrant dated St. James's to the Attorney or Solicitor General for a great seal for a grant to Elizabeth Preston, relict and executrix of Thomas Preston, as in trust for Sir Thomas Lowther, bart., an infant, of a term of 31 years of the scite of the late dissolved monastery of Furness in Co. Lancs, and other the premises as in the particular hereto: all in consideration of the good services performed to the Crown by the said Thomas Preston of Holker, Co. Lancs, in recovering the premises by very chargeable and expensive suits at law from the superstitious uses to which they had been applied by illegal grants, and further in consideration of a fine of 1,000l. and rent of 200l. per an. to be paid by the said Elizabeth and on her surrendering the lease in being granted to the said Thomas Preston 1695 April 27 for 15 years from 1711. The lessee herein is further to pay and discharge the several fee farm rents and other charges as in the lease in being, amounting in the whole to 190l. 13s. 4d. per an. without deduction or defalcation whatsoever.

Parcel of the Castle and manor of Gleaston in Aldingham within the Lordship of Muckland, Co. Lancs.
The farm of the scite of the late dissolved monastery in Furneis; the Booth Ground in the Town Fields, parish or precincts of Dalton; the pasture, turbary or moss called Angerton Moss; the fishings called Oyster Fishings; the fishing at Ramside, Walney and Dunden with the liberty to take coneys in Walney and Old Barron, as enjoyed by John Preston, deceased, grandfather to Sir Thomas Preston; two messuages in Dalton and Kirkeby; the Barcary or sheep pastures called Kirkeby Moore and Mean Moore; the Kelby of Dalton; the parcel of ground called Cost Park; two water grist mills called Hart Mill and Sea Mill in Gleaston and Muckland; the park called Hart Park; the pasture called Kilne Close; seven acres of meadow called the Mill Damm; parcels of meadow and pasture called Herrehill, Werrelett, Greenhill, Worthwick, Mare Meadow and Hare Park; ten acres of land near the Castle of Gleaston; the herbage or pasture grounds upon the Quarrels; the farm called Wheat Farms and Dry Moulter Rents in the tenure and heretofore [parcel] of the Priory of Coneyshed; the mines called the Yure Mines, alias Iron Mines; the fishings called Orswick Farm in Orswick and the Mayre in Aldingham and the Standing tarn in Muckland: all being parcel of the Castle and manor of Gleaston in Aldingham within the Lordship of Muckland, co. Lancs., and heretofore in the tenure of Thomas Preston of Furneis, Co. Lancs, and Thomas Preston of Kirklington, Co. Yorks, and George Preston of Holker, Co. Lancs: and all other lands &c. of said Thomas Preston in Furneis and which by indenture of lease and release dated 1674 May 5 and 6 made between the said Sir Thomas Preston of the one part and Francis, Lord Carrington, and Richard Walmesley of Dunkenhalgh, Co. Lancs, of the other, were conveyed to said Carrington and Walmesley to the only use of the King and his successors: all which premises, by a great seal of Wm. III dated 1695 April 27, were demised to Thomas Preston of Holker for 15 years from 1711 Lady day, at the rent of 200l. per an., the said lessee covenanting to pay 200l. per an. rent and to discharge the several fee farm rents or other charges amounting in the whole to 190l. 13s. 4d.
Followed by. said Auditor's memorandum. In the said indenture it is mentioned that it was supposed that his said late Majesty was or ought to be entitled to one tenement called Stone Dike Tenement and one meadow called Gold Mere Meadow, both in Furneis aforesaid, and also some Customary or Copyhold lands in Stainton Fields in Furneis which were purchased of George Hilton, and the Crown covenanted that such parts thereof as should be recovered by the lessee should be enjoyed by him during the remainder of the term without any addition of rent in respect thereof.
Followed by: ratal by Alexander Pendarves, Surveyor General of Crown Lands, of said particular, rating a fine of 1,000l. for the new lease with the rent of 200l. and covenant as to fee farms as above.

Treasury warrant dormant to Henry Ferne, Customs Cashier, to pay to Charles Downing, Comptroller of the Great and Petty Customs in London port, the several annual rents or sums of 55l. and 200l. per an. in respect of the said office. Money Book XXIII, p. 524.
Same to Edward Harley and Thomas Foley, Auditors of Imprests, to make allowances as follow in the account of Mr. William Wenman as late Paymaster of the Civil List Lottery, viz. 44l. 12s. 0d. for his bill for incidents &c. and further to allow to said Wenman and to Mr. Chapman, late Comptroller of said Lottery, their salaries from the date of their last being paid to the day their successors gave security.

Money warrant for 17,628l. 12s. 7d. for sufferers at Nevis and St. Christophers: to wit to pay three years’ interest on their debentures as follows. By a clause in the Act of 12 Anne [13 Anne, c. 18], for appropriating the Supply anno 1714 there is appropriated 18,540l. 12s. 9¾d. to make good the interest for three years to 1714 Dec. 25 to the said sufferers, being 6 per cent. on the sum of 103,003l. 11s. 4d., which by an Act of 9 Anne, c. 16, was appointed to be distributed amongst the said sufferers according to such debentures as should be made out by the Commissioners for Trade and Plantations, who by that Act and by another Act of 10 Anne, c. 41, were empowered to make out such debentures and to issue the same, after performance of certain requisites by said sufferers or their agents. The present Commissioners for Trade and Plantations have transmitted to the Treasury an authentic list of debentures so issued to the amount of 97,936l. 16s. 6d. In accordance therewith and in accordance with the appropriating clause abovesaid and with the privy seal of 1714–15 March 19 in that behalf, money orders are hereby to be drawn for three years’ interest on the said total, “including in the said orders such and so many of the said debentures as may properly be included therein” to a total not exceeding 17,628l. 12s. 7d. An entry is to be made [endorsed] on every debenture of such satisfaction of three years’ interest. The said orders are to be satisfied out of any the money remaining in the Exchequer from the Aids and Supplies granted by Parliament for the service of the year 1714.

Treasury reference to the Surveyor General of Crown Lands of the petition of John Chamberlen for a new lease of several messuages, tenements, yards, stables &c. which he holds by several mesne assignments from the Earl of St. Alban's trustees, being situate on part of the ground called the Round Rundles and Swallowfield in the parishes of St. Martins in the Fields and St. James's, standing and being together between Vine Street on the west [abutting] on yards and gardens belonging to houses of Beehoe, Creak and Harding, in Ayre Street on the east, between Marybone on the north, and certain messuages and grounds of one Buckland on the south; also a piece of ground at the north end of the said Round Rundles and Swallow Street whereon is a brewhouse and five other small tenements, two stables, a malthouse and coalhouse: the terms in being of all which premises will expire in 1734: likewise of a messuage or tenement, yard and garden on the south side of Pall Mall between the tenements late of Richard Fletcher on the east, and Freeman and Townsend on the west, which messuage petitioner holds by like mesne assignment for the remainder of terms expiring in 1740. Treasury warrant to same to make alterations in the Establishment of Leigh port on the coast of Essex as follows.
Prefixing: report by said Commissioners. The Surveyor of Leigh is by the Establishment to keep a boat for the water guard. He complains that his salary of 60l. per an. is not sufficient for himself and to keep two watermen “without which, little service can be expected in that station. “ This is a place where goods are frequently run, being in the mouth of the river. With the aid of two watermen this officer will be able to go off to sea and watch the motion of smuggling vessels. We propose an addition of 40l. per an. to go towards the salary of two watermen and that 20l. per an. be taken from the salary of the Surveyor, reducing him to 40l. per an., and that two watermen be established at 30l. per an. each to attend him and to provide and maintain their own boat: by which the Surveyor and watermen will be on the same foot with the Surveyor and watermen of Erith and Blackwall.
