Royal warrant to Charles, Duke of Bolton, Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, to allow (in the accounts and clearing of the Regiments of Horse and Dragoons in Ireland) for each private horseman the full pay of 1s. 10d. a day whereof 1s. 6d. for his subsistence; and to each private Dragoon the full pay of 1s. 4d. whereof 11½d. for his subsistence (officers' servants excepted) from the respective days the same were authorised to commence by the warrant of the late Lords Justices of Ireland, to wit Charles, Duke of Grafton, and Henry, Earl of Galway, who by their warrant of 10 March 1715–16 did direct an additional pay of 4d. a day to every horse soldier in each Regiment of Horse on the Establishment of Ireland and of 2d. a day to every soldier of Dragoons, to commence from the 1st January then last past and did further thereby direct the Vice Treasurer of Ireland to observe the same Regulation in the subsistence of the new Dragoons, to commence from the date of the Colonels' commissions; thus making the full pay to be 1s. 10d. and 1s. 4d., ut supra, respectively.
The present warrant is by reason that the said augmented pay has given rise to some difficulties on clearing the said Regiments “for that according to our present Establishment and all other Establishments since the Revolution the full pay of each private horseman was 1s. 6d. a day of which 1s. was paid him for subsistence; and the full pay of each private Dragoon was 1s. 2d. a day of which 9½d. was paid him for subsistence”. C. Stanhope to the Commissioners for Taxes to report on the enclosed petition [missing] of Mr. Bury, Receiver General of Taxes for Co. Notts., showing that he has always been allowed 37l. for his extraordinary expenses for each quarterly or half yearly payment of his Land Tax [moneys into the Exchequer whether by way of exchange or by forwarding his moneys to London under strong guard], and that he did not think it necessary to keep a regular accompt of these expenses “and therefore cannot make an affidavit as is required” for his said extraordinary expenses in returning up the public moneys in the years 1713, 1714, 1715 and 1716. William Lowndes to the Auditor of the Receipt enclosing a copy [missing] of the Address from the House of Commons to the King of the 5th inst. [Commons Journals XVIII, p. 581] for an account of what is due for principal and interest at Lady day last on the Debentures made out pursuant to Acts of Parliament to the sufferers at the islands of Nevis and St. Christopher. Henry Kelsall to Mr. Joshua Maude. By a letter of the 4th inst. Eliza[beth] Walker has intimated to the Treasury Lords that she could be instrumental in making a discovery of 4,000l. concealed from the Crown and representing you to be fully instructed to make the said discovery to my Lords upon assurance of reward and protection. I am commanded by their Lordships to acquaint you that if you proceed to a discovery of the said concealed money so as the Crown may reap any advantage thereby, their Lordships will give such reward and encouragement to the discoverer as they shall think reasonable. C. Stanhope to Mr. Bambridge. According to the request made by you in behalf of Gen. Wills, the Treasury Lords have declined receiving any application from Sir Bibye Lake relating to the matter in dispute “between them,” [to wit] for the time desired by you in your letter, in expectation of the General [Wills's] agreeing with Sir Bibye. But not finding by your letter of the 5th inst. that any such accommodation is yet made, my Lords have (upon a representation from Sir Bibye) peremptorily appointed Thursday week for hearing and finally determining the matter in dispute.
