Aug. 16. Charles Bertie to the Customs Cashier. Treasurer Danby has resolved to make the following provisions for the Ordnance Office, viz., 20,000l. out of the Customs of East India ships imported in the next ships which shall arrive after the saltpetre is paid for ; 20,000l. by wine bonds to be taken for the next vintage or by money [in cases] where the merchant shall pay by way of discount upon such bonds : but this last 20,000l. is to be received by 5,000l. at a time alternis vicibus, to wit, the Treasurer of the Ordnance is to receive the first 5,000l., the third, fifth and seventh : and 10,000l. more is to be paid out of the Customs in Aug., 1677. This will complete 50,000l. for which tallies are already struck in the name of said Treasurer, viz., 40,000l. dated July 19 last, and 10,000l. dated this day. You are to take notice hereof and regulate other payments with respect hereto. Ibid.
Aug. 17. Warrant from Treasurer Danby to [the King's Remembrancer] for a commission out of the Exchequer to the following persons to enquire concerning wastes and spoils in New Forest : viz., Edw. Noel, Esq., Lord Warden of said forest, Sir Rich. Knight, Tho. Knowles, Roger Gollop, John Maddon, Tho. Agar, Charles Strode, Thomas Stanley and Jonathan Rivet, Esqrs.

Letter of direction on an order of the 2nd inst. for 2,898l. 2s. 7d. to Sir Leoline Jenkins and Sir Joseph Williamson for extraordinaries as Ambassadors for the Treaty of Peace at Cologne : same to be hereby paid out of the arrears of Hearthmoney owing by George Clarke, late Receiver thereof for Devon and Cornwall ; Martin Sandys, late same for co. Worcester ; and John Vaughan, late same for co. Monmouth, as the same shall be paid into the Receipt on their respective accounts for the year ended 1674, Lady day. Money Book (General) p. 427.
Aug. 18. Warrant from Treasurer Danby to the Receipt to issue (upon any orders in the name of Phillip Packer for the extraordinaries of the Works) 170l. 2s. 6d. to be by him applied to pay the sums of 130l. 2s. 6d. for erecting a Court of judicature and scaffolds in Westminster Hall for the arraignment and trial of Charles, Lord Cornwallis, on June 30 last (restoring to the Master Carpenter the materials of the said Court and scaffolds which of right belong to the Earl of Lindsey, for his fees as Lord Great Chamberlain of England) and 40l. to said Earl by reason that the officers of the Works could not perform their contract for the erection of said Court without the consent of said Earl, who in favour to his Majesty's service is content and has agreed to accept said 40l. in lieu of said materials, and to permit the said officers to dispose thereof according to their contract. Charles Bertie to the Auditor of the Receipt to pay 75l. to Col. Gifford, for half a year to 1675, June 24, on his pension of 150l. per an. (Same to the Customs Cashier to bring same in, notwithstanding any former restriction.) Ibid p. 428.

Letter of direction on 75l. in part of an order of the 8th inst., for 225l. to Charles Gifford for 1 years on his pension to June 24 last : same to be hereby paid by tallies on James Smith, late Receiver of Hearthmoney, co. Sussex. Ibid.
Letter of direction on an order of July 20 last for 3,777l. 5s. 6d. to Sir Robert Vyner for plate : to be by 1,700l. out of any Law duty money now in the Exchequer and by tallies for 1,188l. on the Customs Cashier and for 1,889l. 5s. 6d. on the Hearthmoney Contractors' payment due in March next. Warrant from Treasurer Danby to Thomas Whitley, Receiver General of Crown Revenues, co. Chester, and to the Auditor thereof. The mayor and inhabitants of Macclesfield have lately petitioned me for continuance of payment of the pension of 50l. per an. for the preacher there, which has been duly paid till the sale of fee farms in said county, since which no payment thereof has been made by reason that the revenue remaining unsold is not sufficient to satisfy the perpetual pensions to vicars and such like in the said county, together with this pension and the fee of the Chief Justice of Chester and other officers of the Exchequer and castle there. It now appears by the certificate of the deputy Auditor of that county that the yearly fee of 100l. to the Chief Justice of Chester is lately settled to be paid out of the revenues of North Wales : therefore the abovesaid pension may now be continued out of the revenues of co. Chester. You are hereby authorised to make and allow such payment for the half year ended at Lady Day last and to continue same for the future. Ibid.
Money warrant for 5,788l. 0s. 3d. to Sir Stephen Fox in full of interest of money by him advanced for the service of the Forces : as appears by four interest accounts made up to Jan. 1 last and allowed by Treasurer Danby April 27 last. Ibid, p. 430.
Warrant from Treasurer Danby to the Auditor of the Receipt to pay the 300l. (remaining of the order of 500l. to Col. Francis Carr as ordered by the privy seal of Mar. 27 last) out of such moneys as shall come into the Exchequer from Richard Churchill, late Receiver of Hearthmoney, co. Somerset and Bristol. Ibid.

Money warrant for 5,451l. 19s. 7d. to the Earl of Arlington for Post Office defalcations for pacquets and despatches carried free, viz., 2,691l. 15s. 10d., for 1674, Dec. 30, to 1675, July 1, and 2,760l. 3s. 9d. for 1675, June 30, to 1675-6, Jan. 1 : as appears certified by the Earl of Carbery, Henry Coventry and Sir George Carteret, Vice-chamberlain of the Household. Warrant from Treasurer Danby to the Customs Cashier to pay 20l. to Thomas, Earl Rivers for one year's creation money to Lady day last. Money Book (General) p. 431.
Same from same to the Auditor of the Receipt for the execution of a warrant of 1671, Dec. 15, for 1,000l. to the Earl of Rochester in part of 3,250l. arrears for 6 years to the then preceding Michaelmas on his pension of 500l. per an. Marked in the margin vacated : See under date Nov. 8 infra, pp. 363-4. But it will be seen there that the said order refers to a different transaction.) Ibid.
Charles Bertie to the Receivers of the Law duty to pay 1,400l. to Arthur Fleetwood, which with 3,100l. formerly written to you for, completes his tallies for 4,500l. on you. Ibid.
Warrant from Treasurer Danby to the Auditor of the Receipt to pay 40l. to John Brewster for one year's fee to Sept. 29 last as Comptroller of the Pipe. Ibid, p. 432.
Charles Bertie to the [Customs] Commissioners not to employ Hen. Newbery as a surveyor in Wales, but to continue him in his present station as a surveyor of the Searchers Office, London port : the Archbishop of Canterbury desiring favour to be extended to him in this particular case. Warrant from Treasurer Danby to same to permit the goods on board the Noble Katherine, from Barbados, to be landed and put in warehouse, same being the product of the Four and a Half per cent, duty at Barbados and the Leeward Isles, belonging to the Farmers thereof "who in July last did consent and agree before me that for this current year, 1676, some persons might be nominated to inspect the receipt of their goods and keep an account thereof (there being then none arrived from the said island), to the intent that the produce thereof might be applied to the payment and discharge of such moneys as his Majesty had directed to be paid out of the revenue of that farm." The present warrant is made at the request of the agents of said Farmers. Ibid, pp. 200-1.

Same from same to the Honble. Charles Bertie to repair forthwith to the Receipt to enquire what money Sir William Doyly, one of the Tellers of the Receipt, is charged withal to have now in his custody : the Auditor of the Receipt, Clerk of the Pells and all other officers concerned are to declare same : and with them you are to go into the office of said Doyly and there examine whether such money be really in specie in his office, and whether any and what, is wanting. Same from same [to the Surveyors General of Woods Trent South] to suffer Capt. Phillip Howard to have for himself and carry away the lops, tops and offal of the 300 tons ordered ut supra, p. 187, to be felled in Whittlewood and Salcey Forests for the rebuilding of Northampton town : such offal being granted to him by the privy seal of Mar. 28 last, supra p. 161. Warrant from Treasurer Danby to the Clerk of the Pipe for a lease to Sir Richard Lloyd, of the extended lands, as below, in consideration of the fine of 18l. 4s. 2d. and at the yearly rent of 9l. 2s. 1d. to hold during the extents thereof : the writing obligatory upon which said extents were made having been entered into to the King by the several persons as below conditioned on payment of sums as below to Sir Richard Pigott, Kt., Perient Trott and Humphry Beane, late Farmers of Hearthmoney for all England, who by indenture dated June 23 last transferred to abovesaid Sir Richard Lloyd of Halam, co. Notts, Kt., all the said bonds or obligations and lands, etc., and title therein.
Prefixing : said particular as follows, dated July 27 last, and made by T. Eden, deputy King's Remembrancer (1) parcel of the value of 252l. per an. of the lands of William Batte, of Barkisland, co. Yorks, who with Alexander Butterworth, of Belfield, co. Lancs., Richard Beaumont, of Whitley, co. Yorks, Richard Harsfall, of Storthshall, co. Yorks, became bound to the King in 2,200l. in 1666, Aug. 29 : and seized into the King's hands 1671, Oct. 18, by Sir Solomon Swale, bart., then sheriff.
(2). Another parcel of the lands of said William Battie of the value of 252l. per an.
(3). Parcel of the lands of Alexander Butterworth, et al., co. Lancs., of the value of 282l. 12s. 0d. per an.
(4). Parcel of the lands of Edward Copley, of Batley, co. Yorks, of the value of 160l. 8s. 0d. per an.
(5). Another parcel of the lands of John Smith, co. Yorks, of the value of 99l. per an.
(6). Another parcel of the lands of Alexander Butterworth, et al, co. Chester, of the value of 46l. 4s. 0d. per an. (Total annual value 1,092l. 7s. 0d.)

Aug. 19. Charles Bertie to the Auditor of the Receipt to issue the 2,000l. lately brought into the Exchequer by the Customs Cashier for a quarter of the Lord Treasurer's salary pursuant to and in part of the order lately drawn for 4,000l. in the name of Charles Bertie. Money Book (General) p. 428.
Same to the Customs Commissioners to report on the representation of the Earl of Bolingbroke to Treasurer Danby concerning a vessel of said Earl bound from Bordeaux with wine and brandy, which was taken by a French privateer under Dover Castle and carried to Dunkirk, and there detained 13 or 14 weeks, in which time great quantity of his wine and brandy was embezzled, and the residue prickt and spoyld with heat : wherefore said Earl desires an inspection of the remainder [with a view to allowance being made for such waste and decay]. Aug. 21. Treasurer Danby's subscription of a docquet dated 1676, April, of a demise to Sir James Shaen, et al (Farmers of the Revenue of Ireland) of all his Majesty's quit rents and crown rents, etc., in Ireland, ut supra, pp. 181-2. Docquet Book, p. 85.
Money warrant for the following sums for the officers of the late Council for Trade and Plantations constituted by letters patent of 1672, Sept. 27, viz., Gawyn Wilson 100l. for one year, John Richards 75l. for three quarters as clerks to said Council, John Sampson 30l. and Tho. Roe 25l. 10s. 0d. for the remainder of one year, as respectively messenger and doorkeeper to same, to complete their salaries to the dissolution of said Council, as appears duly certified upon a report on the order of reference dated 1674-5, Feb. 10 from the Privy Council made on their petition for such arrears. The present warrant is to be charged on the dormant patent of 1660, Sept. 28, by reason that the money warrant of 1673-4, Feb. 13, for 650l. to John Lock, Treasurer of the said Council, cannot be presently paid because of the absence of said John Lock, who, as Treasurer Danby is informed, is beyond the seas. Without further direction no further, payment is to be made on said order of 1673-4, Feb. 13. (Letter of direction dated Aug. 31 upon an order dated Aug. 24 drawn hereupon : same to be hereby satisfied out of such moneys as shall be brought into the Exchequer by James Smith, late Receiver of Hearthmoney, co. Warrant from Treasurer Danby to issue 45l. to Philip Packer on any orders in his name for the service of the Works : same to be by him paid to the Treasurer of the moneys for rebuilding the church of St. Pauls, in London, and to be for some rag stones of said church disposed for the use of his Majesty's paving. Ibid, p. 433.
Charles Bertie to the Customs Commissioners forwarding two papers concerning passes for the Irish ships. Report hereon to Treasurer Danby this afternoon so that he may reply to the Lord Lieutenant's letter hereon by this night's post. Also present to Treasurer Danby some fit person to succeed in Mr. Bland's place in the Customs of Virginia, "whom his Majesty has commanded to be removed from that employment." Warrant from Treasurer Danby to same to deliver unopened and Customs free two little cases arrived from Leghorn in the ship Allepo Merchant, John Parker master, directed to the Countess of Fingall at Somerset House, being for the Queen's use. Ibid.
Aug. 22. Money warrant for 100l. to Visct. Falkland in part of what is due upon his patent for 300l. per an. Money Book (General) p. 424.
Royal warrant to the Attorney or Solicitor General for a great seal for a grant of the office of Comptroller of Lynn Regis to John Ferrour, gent., in reversion after John Anguish : with the fee of 15l. 4s. 4d. per an. and all other profits, etc. (Treasurer Danby's subscription dated Aug. 30 of docquet hereof.) Same to the Clerk of the Signet for a privy seal for 320l. per an. to the Paymaster of the Works ; to be paid over to John Rose for keeping (and defraying all the charges of) his Majesty's Garden at St. James's upon agreement. (Treasurer Danby's subscription dated Aug. 30 of docquet hereof ; "with a warrant also for the payment of 240l. to the said Paymaster of the Works for the use of the said John Rose for keeping the said garden from Mich., 1675, to Midsummer last after the rate aforesaid." Royal warrant to the Clerk of the Signet for a privy seal for a quieti sunt to be made and granted to Sir Thomas Alleyn Kt. and Bart., John Ireton, Richard Bury, William Puckle and Nathaniel Manton or the survivors of them as late Commissioners of Excise on their account 1659, Mar. 26, to Sept. 30, of that duty, being the last account by them delivered for that service (they being from that term removed from that employment), on which account they owe nothing to the King, but are even and quit, as appears by the certificate of June 22 last from John Brewer, deputy Auditor of Excise : "but in regard the several tallies (in number 144) mentioned and allowed upon the declaration of the accompts of the said late Commissioners from the 25th of Mar., 1658, exclusive, to the 30 of Sept., 1659, inclusive, cannot be found or produced, the said late Commissioners are obstructed in obtaining their quietus thereupon" : said tallies having been formerly produced at the respective times of examination and auditing of said account and were remaining in the Grand Office of Excise in Bartholomew Lane at the time of the sad and lamentable fire when said office was burnt and were either then burnt or lost in the removal of the books, papers and other things belonging to that office. Declaration by the King in the form of a warrant to the Attorney or Solicitor General declaring and promising to James Vernon, John Archer, Francis Archer, Adam Jordan, Robert Wilson, William Bigg and Col. John Legg, a lease of any discoveries they shall make, viz., for 61 years at a rent not exceeding a fourth of the true value thereof : they having in their petition set forth that they are ready to discover and prosecute several concealed messuages, lands, tenements, etc., in the several hundreds of Barstable and Rochford, co. Essex, called and known by the names of Canvey Island, Fobbing Marsh, and Brewers Marsh or by whatsoever other name the same are called. King's Warrant Book V. pp. 211-2.
Royal warrant to the Attorney or Solicitor General for a great seal for a grant to Robert Tompkins, Clerk of the Council to the late Queen Mother, of the manor of Chesworth and all the park of Chesworth disparked, and all lands called the demesne lands and escheat lands in Chesworth or Horsham, co. Sussex, and all the rights, members and appurtenances thereto belonging : to hold same for ever subject to the interest of the Queen Consort and her Trustees therein, and which shall be in being at the time of her decease : at the yearly rent of 54l. 12s. 2d., payable to the King from the death of said Queen Consort : the Trustees of said Queen to assign to Tompkins immediately after her death (or at any time during her life with her consent) all or any part unexpired of their interest in the premises as shall be desired by said Tompkins or his heirs at said rent : all in consideration that said Tompkins served for 13 years as clerk of the Queen Mother's Council and hath otherwise employed the best part of his time in the service of the King and of said Queen Mother "who dying intestate had ordered no provision for her servants as hath been practised in like occasions." Warrant under the royal sign manual to Treasurer Danby to give warrant to the Surveyors General of Woods, Trent South, for the felling of dotard timber in New Forest sufficient to meet the expenses of the commission to Edward Noell, et al, for enquiring concerning wastes and spoils in said forest. (Treasurer Danby's warrant dated Aug. 28 hereon accordingly to Tho. Agar and Charles Strode, Surveyors General of Woods, Trent South, for the felling of such timber up to the value of 100l. : with the usual clause for rendering an account thereof.) Royal sign manual for 100l. to Martin, wife of Samuel Martin as royal bounty. (Money warrant dated Aug. 31 hereon. Charles Bertie to "good Cousin" [the Auditor of the Receipt] to pay 210l. to said Bertie on any orders in his name for secret service : "to be paid for a Turkish horse lately bought by his Majesty." Money Book (General) p. 433.

Warrant from Treasurer Danby to the Customs Cashier to pay 82l. 10s. 0d. to Mr. Hodges for 2 years to June 24 last on his salary as Comptroller of the Great Customs London port. Ibid.
Money warrant for 826l. 4s. 6d. to George Wharton, Treasurer of the Ordnance, to be by him paid to Joseph Norwood, Thomas Dawson and other poor armorers for cleansing and repairing horse arms, they being almost the only persons left alive to preserve that manufacture in the nation : an order having been formerly drawn by virtue of the privy seal of 1665-6, Mar, 8, for said sum, to be paid to William Legg (since deceased) Master of the Armory, but no money having been yet paid thereon at the Exchequer. The present warrant is drawn by virtue of the privy seal of 1676, July 26. Ibid.
Warrant from Treasurer Danby to the Receiver of the last Eighteen Months' tax for co. to pay 200l. to Bartholomew Fillingham for reward for his pains in soliciting and getting in the arrears of said assessment and the arrears of Hearthmoney owing by several receivers thereof in England and Wales. Money warrants for 12l. to John Blow, gent., for a quarter on his fee of 48l. per an. as one of his Majesty's music : and 16l. 7s. 3d. to Thomas Lanier for same on his fee of 67l. 9s. 2d. per an. as a same. Money Book (General) p. 434.
Charles Bertie to the Auditor of the Receipt for tallies (and same to the Receivers of Excise to pay said tallies) for 500l. to Lady Charlotte Paston for three quarters to June 24 last on her pension. Ibid.
Warrant from Treasurer Danby to Rowland Pritchard, sheriff of Monmouth, to deliver to Henry Progers two lumps of silver of the value of 25l. lately seized by the officers of Abergavenny, from a person unknown, who being prosecuted is since fled and outlawed for coining or clipping of money. Same from same to the Customs Commissioners to permit the landing and warehousing of the Earl of Bolingbroke's wines, ut supra, p. 307, in the ship St. John, Daniell Roberts master, lately arrived from Dunkirk, having been there detained for some time upon suspicion of being lawful prize to the French. Entry of the delivery to Mr.Pepys of 20 blank passes for ships : said passes being to be sent to Ireland pursuant to an order of Council.
Prefixing : Form of said pass from the Admiralty Commissioners. Suffer the ship ... to pass with her company, passengers, goods, ... without molestation, said ship appearing by good testimony to belong to the subjects of ... the King and to no foreigner. This pass to continue in force for one year from date hereof.

Charles Bertie to [the Customs Commissioners] to report how the goods brought home in the Dover dogger may be admitted to entry : it appearing that said dogger is the King's, being taken as prize in the late war.
Prefixing : Certificate from the Navy Commissioners (made at the request of the Royal Company of Adventurers trading to Africa) that said vessel was by his Majesty lent to said Company by order of the Admiralty Lords dated 1673-4, Mar. 11, for her late voyage, which being performed she is to be returned unto his Majesty again.

Warrant from Treasurer Danby to same to permit the landing and disposing of the deals on board the ship Angel Michael, of Lubeck, laden with deals from Lubeck to Lisbon, it appearing from the reports of the Customs Commissioners on the petition of Marselius Jacopson, master thereof, that said ship met with several capers belonging to Ostend, and having been much damaged by them, came into Plymouth to repair the damage and get convoy for Lisbon, but for want thereof, having lain long in said port, was obliged to revictual, etc., and so incurred a considerable debt in said port, for which his creditors have arrested his ship, which now cannot go out of port till they be satisfied, which the master prays leave to do by selling his said lading. Aug. 23. Treasurer's Danby's subscription of a docquet dated August of a grant to Dame Isabella Wyche, Dresser in Ordinary to the Queen Consort, of the yearly pension or sum of 300l., during pleasure, and from Michaelmas last. Docquet Book, p. 86.

Warrant from Treasurer Danby to the Clerk of the Pipe for an assignment under the Exchequer Seal to Oliver Hale or his nominee of all the manors, lands and estate of Sir Robert Thomas now in the King's hands, and for all the term remaining in the King, except only such particular parts thereof as are delivered out to Dr. Butler, John and Humphrey Thomas to be settled for their security pursuant to the agreement made in pursuance of the privy seal of Feb. 29 last, ut supra, p. 142 ; in pursuance of which privy seal said Sir Robert did deliver to said Dr. Butler and to said John and Humphrey Thomas a particular rental of such lands (parcel of the lands now in the King) as amounted to 240l. per an. which he was willing to settle accordingly : but it being objected that the lands mentioned in the said rental not being parcel of the lands particularly mentioned in the lease for 99 years now in the King as the privy seal directed, was not so good a security as said privy seal intended ; whereupon it was agreed that a lease should be made by the King to some person of the abovesaid particulars amounting to 240l. per an., but also another lease to the same person of such parcels of the manor of Flemingston and Llanvihangell as should amount to the like yearly value of 240l. in trust for said Sir Robert Thomas until such time as said Dr. Butler, John and Humphrey Thomas shall be legally ejected out of said lands or particulars first mentioned, and upon such eviction then to be in trust for said Dr. Butler and John and Humphrey Thomas : and that the residue of said estate be immediately conveyed as directed by said privy seal : in accordance with which abovesaid agreement said Sir Robert Thomas has since delivered to said Butler and John and Humphrey Thomas another particular of lands and rents in the said manors of Flemingston and Llanvihangell to the value of 240l. per an. Said goods are to be secured by two locks and keys, one kept by said Farmers or their Agents, the other by said Daniel Arthur : and the product thereof (above the freight, customs and duties to the King) is to be paid to said Arthur to be applied to the satisfaction of said tallies. Prefixing : (a), said particulars made by James Symes, Deputy Auditor of the Duchy of Cornwall : (1), a tenement in Overboddiga parcel of the manor of Bucklawren, demised by indenture 1664, April 26, to Henry Seymour, a Groom of the Bedchamber (in reversion after the interest of Daniell Birt) for 99 years, terminable on the lives of Jonathan and Charles, sons of Jonathan Trelawney, at yearly rents of 1l. 12s. 6d. and 9l. increase. This tenement to be [hereby] granted for the lives of two of the children of [said] John Buller, of Morval, co. Cornwall, Esq., to be named by him instead of the lives of said Jonathan and Charles Trelawney, which are to be surrendered. Cornwall, called Tamerton town, alias Old Tamerton, and parcel of the manor of Boyton : with a view to a lease thereof to Walter Robins as assignee by indenture dated 1672-3, Mar. 20, of the interest of George Glyn, gent., who is possessed thereof by Exchequer lease dated 1661, June 25, for two lives (Arthur Arscott and Thomas Curtis, a third life Phillip Glyn being dead) at the rent of 48s. and increased rent of 18l.
Prefixing : note of George Glyn's petition herein and said Surveyor General's report on said petition. Premises are certified by Sir Richard Prideaux to contain 130 acres valued at 42l. above the old rent. Advises a fine of 80l. for change of lives and of 144l. for buying off the increased rent of 18l. per an., being eight years' value, the usual rate lately set for two lives in a leasehold.

Warrant from Treasurer Danby to Sir Richard Pigott, Kt., Perient Trott and Humphrey Beane, late Farmers of Hearthmoney, to allow to Richard Baddeley and his partners, late sub-farmers under them, of Hearthmoney co. Dorset, 110l. for charges in prosecuting several rioters and murderers upon the insurrection at Bridport in 1668, wherein one of their officers was murdered, which prosecution they undertook by direction of the then Chancellor of the Exchequer, which said prosecutions were very tedious and the offenders numerous : and further to allow to same 42l. as accomptants for the half year's Hearth duty ended 1666, Lady Day, representing half the value of the improvement which they made in said half year's accompt as appears on comparing their accompt with the highest account thereof before that time : such moiety having been allowed to others in the like case pursuant to the general order of the Treasury Lords of 1667, July 17. Warrant from Treasurer Danby to the Farmers of the Customs [Four and a Half per cent. duty] of Barbados and to Mr. Daniell Arthur, merchant, appointing said Arthur to inspect the said Farmers' accounts as well in the sale of goods as below as for the charges thereof, and to see that the nett proceed thereof be disposed according to Treasurer Danby's orders : said Danby having about the beginning of July last agreed that said Farmers shall be accomptants for the present year 1676, and that as goods [sent to England to said Farmers in liquidation of said duty] arrived from Barbados they should be sold, a just account thereof being kept and the net proceed thereof paid as the Lord Treasurer should direct : said Farmers having prayed the appointment of some person to so inspect as above "to take off all suspicion that the goods be not disposed of under the value nor the charges unjust or extravagant."
