II. for 70,000l. per mensem for the super of 71l. 8s. 10d. set upon Robert Nivell (a collector of said assessment in said county, nominated by said Commissioners) in the account of Sir Robert Player, Receiver General of same : all to the end that so considerable a number of gentlemen may not be molested and vext for so inconsiderable a sum. Warrant from Treasurer Danby to William Harbord, Auditor of the Duchy of Cornwall, to allow 240l. to John Tregagle upon his account of the [tin coinage] duty for the year 1675 : said Tregagle as Receiver of the Duchy of Cornwall having in pursuance of Treasurer Danby's warrant of 1673, Aug. 4, erected five furnaces with houses and other necessaries thereto for the re-melting of tin in the several Coinage Halls in the County of Cornwall (as appears by the certificate of the officers attending the coinage of tin there), whereby the revenue of the coinage duty is this year much increased, and the usual frauds and embezzlements in a great measure prevented : the said 240l. which is his charges in erecting the same being under the sum limited by the said warrant of 1673, Aug. 4. Instructions from Treasurer Danby to the Customs Commissioners in reply to their representation of the 23 inst. (1). You are to employ Nicho. Robinson (who has been instrumental in destruction of tobacco) as waiter and searcher Gloucester port. (2). Present to me a collector for the Plantation duty, Maryland, loco, Charles Calvert, formerly collector there, but now by the death of his father [become] Lord Baltimore : and a Comptroller and Surveyor for same ibid, the residence of Mr. Coarsy not being in a convenient place. (3). Establish 30l. per an. for Robt. Mason (who undertakes the collection of Hull port for the salary of his clerk) instead of 20l. per an. as lately directed : 30l. per an. having been allowed by the late collector there to his clerk. (4). Dismiss Mr. Natt, collector of Looe, for not paying in his arrear and perfecting his security. Out Letters (Customs) III. pp. 229-30.
Warrant from same to same to permit the unlading of eight barrels of cochineal and 16 bags of redwool in London port out of the Victory, now riding in the Hope, William Trelawney, master, and to permit said ship to depart with the rest of her lading for Lisbon : he having laded at Venice for the coasts of Spain and Lisbon, and having delivered at several parts of Spain, but being denied pratique at Lisbon and Cadiz (upon suspicion of the plague being at Carthagena, where he touched) was compelled to return to England after taking in said cochineal and redwool at Cadiz for England : all by reason that if he break bulk here the whole of his lading will be liable to duty : and said master has been arrested by the owners of said cochineal and redwool in an action for 6,000l., who will proceed against said ship in the Admiralty in two days unless they have order for the landing of said goods, they having b en already great sufferers by loss of time and market : the extremity of such circumstances being such that the present case is not likely to be drawn into precedent. But if my Lord Treasurer shall be pleased to appoint Mr. Moore under his hand and seal to exercise the office it will in no sort be illegal, for it will be but in the nature of an admission into the office already granted him."

Warrant from Treasurer Danby to the Customs Commissioners for James Cruttenden, a tidesman extraordinary, and Jeffery Glyde, a watchman London port, to change places. Out Letters (Customs) III. p. 232.

Same from same to same to direct the officers of Lynn Regis port to make allowance to the ship Joshua of that port, Seth Hawley master, on a quantity of corn exported in her from Lynn Regis (under the Act of 25 Car. II, concerning such export : as to which Act the Attorney General is of opinion that the words 'English shipping' therein mean ships English built, or ships made free) : the said officer refusing (in accordance with the Act of Frauds) to make the said allowance because said ship has no certificate from Sir John Shaw of her being free, although she stands registered as a free ship in the cert[ificate] book of the said port [Lynn Regis] [under date], 1662, June 26, and hath ever since been reputed a free ship, and has paid only English duty from time to time : the non entry of the ship in Sir John Shaw's register being not the default of the owners of said ship "but the omission of the officers of the said port." Same from same to same to have the arrear due from John Williams, late [Customs] Collector at Rochester, stated and security given for payment of 200l. thereof April 26 next and the residue within six months thereafter : process having been issued and judgment obtained in the Exchequer against said Williams and his sureties, one of whom, Thomas Pearle (on whom the whole debt is likely to fall by reason that said collector has fled beyond sea and the other security has likewise absconded) has prayed that said debt might be satisfied by money due to him from the King for the eighth part of the hire, etc., of the Castle frigate employed in his Majesty's service in the late Dutch war : which petition Treasurer Danby's thinks it inconvenient to the King's service to grant, but in regard of said Pearle's great charge of children and great losses is willing to grant him time as above. Charles Bertie to the Customs Cashier to comply exactly with the order for 30,000l. tallies to the Ordnance by 10,000l. per month in June, July and August, 1677 : and in the case of the 20,000l. wine bonds (ut supra, p. 354) to same to apply to this the bonds for the present vintage in the following course, viz., the first, third, fifth, and seventh, sums of 5,000l. of said bonds to said Treasurer, the second, fourth and sixth sums of 5,000l. being saved to other uses Money Book (General) p. 476.

Reference to the Customs Commissioners of the petition of Simon Taylor, of Lynn Regis, merchant, who having exported corn out of said port, has not, for want of money, paid the duty, and prays to have same discounted out of money due and to be due upon such entries [of exports of corn] as he shall make.
