Dec. 26. Same to Col. Kirke. Several petitions and certificates have been lately presented to the Treasury Lords for arrears of pay due to soldiers discharged, viz. for their service at Tangier, which [cases] my Lords apprehend to be contrary to what the King formerly directed, "and fearing if the like practice should be continued it would prove very inconvenient and prejudicial to his service," they direct that you forthwith signify to the Captains of the respective Companies under you that they do not from henceforth without special order for their so doing discharge any soldier or give certificate for the arrear of pay due to any of them that came from Tangier and now belong to any of their Companies, "it being neither for the honour of his Majesty's service nor the satisfaction of their Lordships to have any of the said persons discharged out of his service until their lordships shall be in a condition to pay and provide for them." (The like letter of same date to Col. Trelawny: and the like letters of same date severally to Capt. Alexa. Mackenny, Capt. John Coy, Capt. Tho. Llangston, and Capt. Charles Neatby, relating to the discharge of troopers. The like letter dated Dec. 30 to Lord Churchill to give like notice to the Captains of Troops under his command, which came from Tangier.) Dec. 27. Money order for 375l. to John, Earl of Radnor, for 1684, Christmas quarter, on his annuity or pension. Order Book XXXIX, p. 206.
Dec. 30. Royal warrant to the Attorney or Solicitor General for a great seal for a grant and restitution to Henry St. John, his heirs etc. of all manors, messuages, lands, tenements, goods and chattels forfeited to the King by the murder of Sir William Escot (Escott). King's Warrant Book IX, p. 431.
Royal warrant to the Attorney or Solicitor General for a great seal for a like grant and restitution to Edmd. Webb, his heirs etc. of the like forfeiture for the said murder. King's Warrant Book IX, p. 431.
Same to the Clerk of the Signet for a privy seal to discharge, as of the King's grace, the Mayor, Aldermen and Commons of the city of York of the super of 517l. 7s. 1d. charged upon the inhabitants thereof in the account of Walter Strickland ut supra, p. 1445. Ibid, p. 432.
Same to same for a same for the enstalment of the First Fruits due from John Lake as Bishop of Bristol: same to be paid in four instalments of 73l. 12s. 10d. each on Aug. 12 in 1685, 1686, 1687 and 1688, on the said bishop's own security only; with the usual clause for liability to cease on avoidance. Royal sign manual to William Wagstaffe, town clerk for the city of London, to forbear estreating into the Exchequer Court any such fines or amercements as were set at any sessions holden for the city of London in the shrievalty of Sir Peter Daniell and Sir Samuell Dashwood, which in their nature did formerly belong to any the sheriffs of London their predecessors. Money warrant for 500l. to John, Earl of Bath, for half a year to 1684, June 24, on the annuity or pension of 1,000l. granted to said Earl of Bath and Francis, Lord Hawley; the said Lord Hawley being recently deceased. Money Book V, p. 131.
