Sir D. Digges presenteth, from the select Committee for Religion, a Petition to his Majesty, concerning the Manner of presenting the Lord President of the North. - Agreed, with Addition only of Two or Three Words. -
That in the Examination of the Taking of the Profits of the Office of Register at Yorke, whether in Trust, or no, for Sir T. Matthew, one Dr. ... in whose Name the Office, was sent for. He appeared, and made a Protestation, that he was a Convocation-man; and if they would admit that Protestation, then he would proceed to give the Committee Satisfaction. - Wherein the Committee desireth the Direction of the House.
This Petition to go alone; and to be ingrossed in Parchment, and brought in upon Saturday next.
Resolved, To let the Debate of the said Protestation, rest, until a further Time.

Lord Brooke excuseth himself, by present Sickness, from coming to this House.
Lord Conway, for the like, by a Letter.
Moved, the Lord Vere also to be spared, because he was in the Low Countries, at the Time of the Making of the Act; never took the Oath, nor intermeddled with any Business of issuing Money, or otherwise ; and affirmed so much in this House. But not yielded unto.
Resolved, To interrogate them all singly upon the first Question first, and then to all the rest.
Sir Jo. Ogle first called in. Sir Tho. Button being sick.
He interrogated (the House having resolved they are fully to answer) upon the 1st Question; he desireth, he may not be put to answer by himself, but to abide by their former Answer, till they otherwise resolve jointly: And, being further pressed in it, desireth Respite to advise himself.
Sir Ro. Maunsell called in next, and interrogated in the like manner, and the Question put again to him; he answereth, out of the Experience of Parliaments, he knoweth it is his Duty to obey the Order of this House, resolved, upon Debate: That it is his Duty to answer; and that it is a Disservice to the King, not for him to answer: But yet, sithence he is One of the Council of War, sworn, and a sworn Servant to the King, he humbly intreateth he may have Liberty to beg Leave of the King ; it being his only Ambition to be holden a discreet Man.
Lord Grandison called in next, and the Question again propounded by [a] him by Mr. Speaker, to which a particular Answer required; he acknowlegeth the noble Favour of the House, in giving them Time to answer; but, for the particular Answer desireth to be excused from making any further Answer, than they formerly have done; they not being yet persuaded, they are bound by the Act of Parliament to make any other.
Lord Vere next called in, and the Question again propounded to him; he answereth, he was all the Time in the Low Countries, and never meddled in the Business.
Lord Carew, Earl of Totnesse, called next in, and the Question propounded by him ; he excuseth himself, by old Age, a dead Palsey, and other Infirmities. - That they made an unanimous Answer. - Desireth Time to advise further upon their former Answer; that, if there shall be Cause (as peradventure there may be) they may unanimously reform it.
Upon Question, the Lord Vere discharged from any further Attendance: And he called in, and so much signified to him by Mr. Speaker.
Upon Question, Time given to the Council of War, till Saturday Morning, to make a full and particular Answer to this Question.
Upon Question, this Answer to be given by them severally.
The Lord Wimbleton to be warned to attend here that Time, and to have a Copy sent him of the Question,
That Day given to the Council of War peremptorily, and so to be signified now to them by Mr. Speaker.
Upon Question, a Committee, to repair to Lord Brooke, Lord Conway, and Sir Tho. Button, to take their several Answers, in Writing, to this Question only, against Saturday next; and then to present the same to the House; and like Copy to be delivered them, as aforesaid.
