Prayers.

Suppressing Housebreakers.

AN ingrossed Bill for the better Discovery and Suppressing of Housebreakers was read the Third time.

And several Amendments were severally proposed to be made to the Bill; viz.

Pr. 2. L. 9, after "in," insert "case:"

Pr. 3. L. 17, after "Effect," insert "who are hereby required to pay the same:"

And the same were, upon the Question severally put thereupon, agreed unto by the House; and the Bill amended at the Table accordingly.

Resolved, That the Bill do pass: And that the Title be, An Act for the better Discovery and Suppressing of Housebreakers.

Ordered, That Mr. Gery do carry the Bill to the Lords, and desire their Concurrence thereunto.

Suppressing Profaneness, &c.

Resolved, That this House will, upon Wednesday Morning next, take into Consideration the Amendments, made by the Lords, to the Bill, intituled, An Act for the more effectual Suppressing of Blasphemy and Profaneness.

Churchill's Estate.

Mr. Yates reported from the Committee, to whom the ingrossed Bill, from the Lords, intituled, An Act to confirm the Sale of Part of the Estate of Sir John Churchill Knight, lately deceased, pursuant to his last Will, and Two Decrees of Chancery for Performance thereof, was committed, That they had made one Amendment to the said Bill; which he read in his Place; and afterwards delivered in at the Clerk's Table: Where the same was twice read; and, upon the Question put thereupon, agreed unto by the House; and is as followeth; viz.

Pr. 1. L. *, before "Churchill," leave out "the said;" and insert, instead thereof, "late of Churchill, in the County of Somersett, Knight."

Flint Writ.

Ordered, That Mr. Speaker do issue his Warrant to the Clerk of the Crown, to make out a new Writ, for the electing a Burgess to serve in this present Parliament for the Borough of Flint, in the County of Flint, in the room of Thomas Ravenscroft Esquire, deceased,

Carnarvan Writ.

Ordered, That Mr. Speaker do issue his Warrant to the Clerk of the Crown, to make out a new Writ, for the electing a Burgess to serve in this present Parliament for the Borough of Carnarvan, in the County of Carnarvan, in the room of Sir Robert Owen Knight, deceased.

Supply Bill; Lottery Tickets.

An ingrossed Bill for the better and more orderly Payment of the Lottery-Tickets, now payable, out of certain additional Duties of Excise, was read the Third time.

And an ingrossed Clause was offered, as a Rider, That * * * *.

And the same was twice read, with Blanks; and the Blanks filled up:

And then the Clause was read a Third time; and, upon the Question put thereupon, agreed unto by the House to be made Part of the Bill.

Resolved, That the Bill do pass: And that the Title be, An Act for the better and more orderly Payment of the Lottery-Tickets, now payable, out of certain additional Duties of Excise; and of other Annuities, lately payable, out of the Tonage Duties.

Ordered, That Mr. Lowndes do carry the Bill to the Lords, and desire their Concurrence thereunto.

Raising the Militia.

Ordered, That Leave be given to bring in a Bill for raising the Militia, for the Year One thousand Six hundred and Ninety-eight, although the Month's Pay, formerly advanced, be not repaid: And that Mr. Norris do prepare, and bring in, the Bill.

Leave of Absence.

Ordered, That Mr. Worsely have Leave to go into the Country, upon extraordinary Occasions.

Escapes of Debtors.

A Petition of Martha Johnson Widow, Thomas Johnson, John Johnson, and Frances Micklethwait, Creditors of the Office of the Fleet Prison, was presented to the House, and read; setting forth, That in an Act passed the last Sessions of Parliament, for the more effectual Relief of Creditors in Cases of Escapes; and for preventing Abuses in Prisons, &c.; a Clause was inserted for the saving the Petitioners Right to the Office of the Warden of the Fleet: That, by the Bill now depending, the Petitioners are advised they are in Danger of losing the Benefit of the said former Clause: And praying to be heard in relation to the said Bill; with Liberty to add such Clause as shall be thought reasonable, for saving their just Debt.

Ordered, That the Petitioners be heard at the Bar of this House, by their Counsel, upon Monday Morning next, upon their Petition, upon the Report of the said Bill.

Copper Coinage.

Mr. Lowndes, according to Order, presented to the House a Bill to stop the Coining of Farthings and Halfpence for One Year: And the same was received; and read the First time.

Resolved, That the Bill be read a Second time.

Desborough's Share of Prize.

A Petition of Captain Charles Desborough was presented to the House, and read; setting forth, That the Petitioner was, the last Year, with Captain Norris at Newfoundland; where there was taken a very considerable Prize by one Captain Rophy, and shared between them; of which the Petitioner ought to have had a Share: And praying Relief in the Premises.

Ordered, That the Consideration of the said Petition be referred to a Committee: And that they do examine the Matter thereof; and report the same to the House:

And it is referred to Sir Tho. Dyke, Sir H. D. Colt, Sir Robert Davers, Mr. Brotherton, Colonel Granville, Sir William Lowther, Mr. Harley, Sir Fran. Wyndham, Sir John Fleet, Sir Edward Ernly, Sir Rowland Gwyn, Mr. Done, Sir Robert Cotton, Mr. Hedger, Mr. Culliford, Mr. Manley, Mr. Pocklington, Sir Fran. Massam, Lord Wm. Pawlet, Sir Wm. Williams, Mr. Norris, Mr. Arnold, Sir Philip Boteler, Sir John Kaye, Sir Cloudesly Shovell, Mr. Morgan, Mr. Egerton, Mr. York, Mr. Mounstevens, Mr. Gery, Mr. Bohun, Colonel Pery, Sir Tho. Littleton, Mr. Rowney, Sir Ralph Delavall, Mr. Kendall, Sir John Bucknall, Sir John Bolls, Mr. Colt, Colonel Gibson, Colonel King, Mr. Boyle, Mr. Pagit, Sir Cha. Wyndham, Sir Godfrey Copley, Mr. Mansell; and all the Members of the House, of the Admiralty, Navy, and Cinque-Ports: And they are to meet this Afternoon at Five of the Clock, in the Speaker's Chamber: And have Power to send for Persons, Papers, and Records.

Exporting Watches.

Ordered, That the Committee, to whom the Bill for exporting Watches, Sword-hilts, and other Manufactures of Silver, is committed, have Leave to sit in a Morning; but not after Ten a Clock.

Prevention of Gaming.

Ordered, That the Committee, to whom the Bill against Gaming is committed, have Leave to sit in a Morning; but not after Ten a Clock.

Ways and Means.

Sir Thomas Littleton, according to Order, reported, from the Committee of the whole House, who were to consider further of Ways and Means for raising the Supply granted to his Majesty, the Resolutions of the said Committee; which they had directed him to report to the House; which he read in his Place; and afterwards delivered in at the Clerk's Table: Where the same were read; and are as follow; viz.

Resolved, That it is the Opinion of this Committee, That, over and above the Duties now payable; a further Duty be laid upon all Lustrings and Alamodes imported.

Resolved, That it is the Opinion of this Committee, That the said Duty be as much more as is now payable by the Book of Rates.

The said Resolutions, being severally read a Second time, were, upon the Question severally put thereupon, agreed unto by the House.

Ordered, That a Bill be brought in upon the said Resolutions: And that Mr. Lowndes do prepare, and bring in, the Bill.

Counterfeiting Coin.

The House proceeded to take into further Consideration the Amendments, made by the Lords, . . . . . . . intituled, An Act for the better preventing the counterfeiting, clipping, and other diminishing, the Coin of this Kingdom:

And the same were severally read a Second time; and, upon the Question severally put thereupon, agreed unto by the House.

Ordered, That Mr. Clarke do carry the Bill to the Lords, and acquaint them, that this House hath agreed to the said Amendments.

Leave of Absence.

Ordered, That Sir James Etheridge have Leave to go into the Country, upon extraordinary Occasions.

African Trade.

Mr. Norris, according to Order, reported from the Committee of the whole House, to whom the Bill for settling the Trade to Africa was committed, the Amendments made by the Committee, to the said Bill; which they had directed him to report to the House, which he read in his Place; and afterwards delivered in at the Clerk's Table: Where the same were once read throughout; and then a Second time, one by one; and, upon the Question severally put thereupon, with some Amendments made to some of them, agreed unto by the House.

A Clause was offered, to be added to the Bill, That it shall be lawful for any of his Majesty's Subjects to export from England all such Copper Bars as hath or shall be imported from foreign Parts; and, upon Exportation, shall draw back all Duties, or vacate the Securities; saving the Half of the old Subsidy, as is usual in other Commodities:

And the Clause was twice read, and amended; and, upon the Question put thereupon, agreed unto by the House to be made Part of the Bill.

Another Clause was offered, to be added to the Bill, That no Governor, Deputy-Governor, or Judge, in his Majesty's Plantations in America, or any on their behalf, shall be a Factor or Agent for the said Company, or any other Persons, for Sale or Disposal of any Negroes, on Forfeiture of Five hundred Pounds:

And the Clause was twice read, and amended. . . . . . .

And other Amendments were made by the House to the Bill.

Ordered, That the Bill, with the Amendments, be ingrossed.

Committees.

Ordered, That all Committees be revived.

Hudson's Bay Company.

Resolved, That this House. . . . . upon this Day Sevennight, resolve itself into a Committee of the whole House, to consider further of the Bill for confirming to the Hudson's Bay Company their Privilege and Trade.

And then the House adjourned till Monday Morning, Nine a Clock.
