Prayers.

Message to Lords.

ORDERED, That Mr. John Ashe do carry to the Lords, for their Concurrence, all the Ordinances passed upon Delinquents Compositions.

Delinquents.

Mr. John Ashe reports divers Fines and Compositions, from the Committee at Goldsmiths Hall: Whereupon it is resolved as followeth; viz.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth accept of the Sum of Twenty Pounds, for a Fine, for the Delinquency of John Le Hunt, of Middleton in the County of Warwick, Gentleman: His Offence, That he was in Arms against the Parliament: He rendered before December 1645: His Estate consists in Goods, amounting to the Value of Two hundred Pounds: For which his Fine, at a Tenth, is Twenty Pounds.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth accept of the Sum of Threescore and Three Pounds, for a Fine, for the Delinquency of John Larden, of Cholmley in the County of Chester, Gentleman: His Offence, That he assisted the Forces raised against the Parliament: He rendered in April 1646: His Estate, in Fee, in Possession, per Annum, Eighteen Pounds; for One Life, per Annum, Six Pounds; in Debts, Thirty Pounds; and he owes Two-and-twenty Pounds: His Fine, at a Sixth, Threescore and Three Pounds.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth accept of the Sum of Fifty Pounds, for a Fine, for the Delinquency of John King, of Cholmely in the County of Chester, Gentleman: His Offence, That he was in Arms against the Parliament: He rendered upon the Articles of Oxford: His Estate, for One Life, per Annum, Twenty Pounds; in Debts, Three hundred Pounds: For which his Fine, at a Tenth, is Fifty Pounds.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth accept of the Sum of Thirty-five Pounds, for a Fine, for the Delinquency of Stephen Bovile, of Brimley in the County of Chester, Gentleman: His Offence, That he adhered to the Forces raised against the Parliament: He rendered before December 1645: His Estate, for Life, per Annum, Thirty Pounds Eighteen Shillings and Eight-pence: For which his Fine, is Thirty-five Pounds.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth accept of the Sum of Seventy-five Pounds, for a Fine, for the Delinquency of Ralph Jennian, of Mauby in the County of Chester, Gentleman: His Offence, That he was in Arms against the Parliament: He rendered in March 1645: His Estate, for One Life, per Annum, Fifty Pounds: For which his Fine is Seventy-five Pounds.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth accept of the Sum of Fifty-four Pounds, For a Fine, for the Delinquency of John Lawton, of Snape in the County of Chester, Yeoman: His Offence, That he left his Habitation, and resided in the Enemies Quarters: He rendered in November 1645: His Estate, for One Life, per Annum, Fifty Pounds: in Reversion, per Annum, four Pounds: For which his Fine, at a Tenth, is Fifty-four Pounds.

An Ordinance for granting Pardons unto John Le Hunt, of Middleton, in the County of Warwick, Gentleman; John Larden, of Cholmondley in the County of Chester, Gentleman; John King, of Cholmley in the said County, Gentleman; Stephen Bovile, of Brimley in the said County, Gentleman; Ralph Jenian, of Mauby in the said County, Gentleman; and John Lawton, of Snape in the said County, Yeoman; for their Delinquencies, and for taking off the Sequestrations of their Estates, was this Day read; and, upon the Question, passed; and ordered to be sent to the Lords for their Concurrence.

That this House doth accept of the Sum of Two hundred and Ninety Pounds, for a Fine, for the Delinquency of Cadwallader Coker of Bissiter in the County of Oxford, Gentleman: His Offence, That he adhered unto and assisted the Enemy in this War against the Parliament: He rendered in September 1645: His Estate, in Fee, per Annum, Sixty-six Pounds Thirteen Shillings and Nine-pence; for One Life, per Annum, Thirty Pounds: For which his Fine, at a Tenth, is Two hundred and Ninety Pounds.

An Ordinance for granting a Pardon unto Cadwallader Coker of Bissiter in the County of Oxford, Gentleman, for his Delinquency, and for taking off the Sequestration of his Estate, was this Day read; and, upon the Question, passed; and ordered to be sent to the Lords for their Concurrence.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth accept of the Sum of Two hundred and Eighty Pounds, for a Fine, for the Delinquency of Thomas Story, of Chesterton in the County of Cambridge, Gentleman: His Offence, That he was in Arms against the Parliament: He rendered since December 1645: His Estate, in Fee, per Annum, Ninety-nine Pounds Two Shillings One Peny; for Sixteen Years to come, per Annum, Eleven Pounds Three Shillings Fourpence: Out of which issues Thirty Pounds per Annum, for One Life; and One hundred Pounds per Annum for Thirteen Years: Which leaves his Fine at a Sixth, Two hundred and Eighty Pounds.

An Ordinance for granting a Pardon unto Thomas Story, of Chesterton in the County of Cambridge, Gentleman, for his Delinquency, and taking off the Sequestration of his Estate, was this Day read; and, upon the Question, passed; and ordered to be sent unto the Lords for their Concurrence.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth accept of the Sum of One hundred Thirty-seven Pounds, for a Fine, for the Delinquency of Joane Raynes, of Leigh in the County of Somersett, Widow: Her Offence, That she assisted the Forces raised against the Parliament; and furnished a Man and Horse for that Service: She rendered before the First of May 1646: Her Estate, during her Widowhood, per Annum, Thirty Pounds; for Life, per Annum, Seventyeight Pounds: For which her Fine, at a Tenth, is One hundred Thirty-seven Pounds.

An Ordinance for granting a Pardon unto Joane Raynes, of Leigh in the County of Somersett, Widow, for her Delinquency, and for taking off the Sequestration of her Estate, was this Day read; and, upon the Question, passed; and ordered to be sent unto the Lords for their Concurrence.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth accept of the Sum of Two hundred Twenty-nine Pounds, for a Fine, for the Delinquency of Thomas Wilson, of Heversham Hall in the County of Westmorland, Gentleman: His Offence, That he was in Arms against the Parliament: He rendered before December 1645: His Estate, in Fee, per Annum, Thirty-two Pounds: for Twelve Years to come, per Annum, Fifty Pounds; in Reversion, per Annum, One hundred and Twenty-seven Pounds; Out of which issues Six Pounds per Annum for ever: Which leaves the Fine, at a Tenth, Two hundred Twenty-nine Pounds.

An Ordinance for granting a Pardon unto Ralph Bates, of Halliwell in the County of Northumberland, Esquire, for his Delinquency, and for taking off the Sequestration of his Estate, was this Day read; and, upon the Question, passed; and ordered to be sent to the Lords; for their Concurrence.

The humble Petition of Sir John Harrison Knight, directed to the Committee at Goldsmiths Hall; and likewise a Petition of the said Sir John Harrison, directed to this House, reported from the Committee at Goldsmiths Hall; were this Day read.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth accept of the Fine of One thousand Pounds, for taking off the Delinquency of Sir John Harrison Knight: And that the Committee at Goldsmiths Hall do prepare and bring in an Ordinance to this Purpose.

Army Supplies;

A Letter from the General, from the Leaguer before Colchester, of 28 Junii, was this Day read.

Resolved, &c. That some Gentlemen of the Committee of the Army be required to go down to the Army, to issue out their Warrants, and take care that That Part of the Army before Colchester may be supplied with Monies, out of the Assessments of the County of Essex, and the adjacent Counties: And that there be a Quorum of that Committee, of Three, as to this Business: And that they have all the Powers for Issuing out, Bringing in, and Disposing of the Monies, as the Committee hath.

Ordered, That Mr. Scawen, Mr. Allen, Mr. Leman, and Mr. Hodges, be required to go down upon this Service: And that the Gentlemen of Norfolke, Suffolke, Herts, Cambridge, and Essex, Members of this House, that are now with the Army, be added to this Committee, as to this Business.

Plymouth Garison.

Sir John Evelyn reports from the Committee at Derby House, the humble Petition of Colonel Ralph Weldon, Governor of Plimouth: The which was read.

Ordered, That the Sum of Five hundred Pounds, Part of Sir John Harrison's Fine, be forthwith paid unto Colonel Ralph Weldon, upon Account, to enable him forthwith to repair to his Charge at Plimouth.

Ordered, That the Sum of Five hundred Pounds, the remaining Part of Sir John Harrison's Fine, be paid unto Colonel Ralph Weldon, upon Account, for the Victualling of the Forts and Island of Plimouth, and Reparation of the Works there.

Ordered, That the Committee of the Army do make Allowance of Pay, according to the Establishment of the Army, to a Chaplain and Surgeon of the Fort and Island of Plimouth, under the Command of Colonel Ralph Weldon, the Governor thereof.

Offices held by Members.

Ordered, That the Committees formerly appointed to consider, What Offices, or other Places, or means of Advantage, are enjoyed by any of the Members of this House, where Mr. Sandys, and Mr. Bulkley had the Chair, be revived, sit this Afternoon at Three of Clock, in the Exchequer Chamber, and in the Star Chamber, and so de die in diem; and make Report hereof with all convenient Speed.

Plimouth Town.

The humble Petition of the Town of Plimouth was this Day read: And

It is Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of the West, to consider, How the Sum of Sixty Pounds per Week may be provided, towards the Payment of the poor Inhabitants, for the Time of their doing Duty in keeping their Walls.

Hurst Castle, &c.

Ordered, That the Consideration of Hurst Castle, Calshott Castle, and the Garison of Portsmouth, be referred to the Committee of the Army; to inquire into their Conditions; and to consider. How they may be supplied with all Things necessary for them, and to report their Opinions herein to the House: And the Gentlemen of Hants are desired to repair to the Committee of the Army; and consider with them, and give their best Advice and Assistance, upon Consideration of these Places.

Message to Lords.

Sir Martyn Lumley carried to the Lords for their Concurrence, an Ordinance for the Advancing of the Sum of One thousand Pounds, for Bristoll: An Order for enjoining Mr. Scawen, and others, before-mentioned, to go to the Army: An Ordinance for advancing the Sum of Four thousand Five hundred Forty-seven Pounds Nine Shillings and Five-pence, in the County of Essex, for raising Forces for Suppression of the Insurrection there: The Ordinance for Westminster Militia: An Ordinance for raising the Sum of Four thousand Five hundred Forty-seven Pounds Nine Shillings and Five-pence, in the County of Sussex, for raising Forces to suppress the Insurrections there.

Sussex Forces.

An Ordinance for enabling the Committee of Sussex to raise the Sum of Four thousand Five hundred Forty-seven Pounds Nine Shillings and Five-pence, for raising Two Troops of Horse, and a Company of Dragoons, for supressing the Insurrections there, was this Day read; and, upon the Question, passed; and ordered to be sent to the Lords for their Concurrence.

Letters read.

Two Letters from the Governor of the Isle of Wight, of the Three-and-twentieth and Five-and-twentieth of June 1648, directed to the Committee at Derby House, and reported from thence, were this Day read.

A Letter from Colonel Wanton, Governor of Lynne, from Lynne, of the Twenty-first Junii 1648, was this Day read.

Isle of Ely.

Ordered, That the Officers of the Two Regiments of Foot, which were raised by virtue of the Ordinance for the Posture of Defence within the Isle of Eley, have Power, and are hereby authorized, to raise Threescore Horse, to be formed into a Troop: And that Colonel John Hubert do command the said Troop: And that the said Troop do pursue the Orders of the Standing Committee or Commissioners of the Isle of Ely: And that it be referred to the Committee at Derby House, to grant a Commission to the said Colonel John Hubert, to command the said Troop.

Resolved, &c. That Thomas Fincham of Outwell, George Glapthorne of Whettlesea, Tristram Dymond of Upwell in the Isle of Ely, Esquires, be nominated and appointed Deputy Lieutenants of the Isle of Ely.

The Lords Concurrence to be desired herein.

Ordered, That Sir Dudley North, Sir John Palgrave, Mr. Myles Corbett, Mr. Edward Ashe, and Mr. Roll, do confer with the Commissioners of Excise, and consider with them, How Seventy Pounds per Week, for Three Months, may be raised, out of the Excise arising in the Isle of Ely, for Maintaining of the Forces appointed for the Safety and Defence of that Place. They are to acquaint the Commissioners with the Consequence of that Place; and that, if this Course be not taken, the Excise of that Place is in great Danger to be lost.

Ordered, That Twenty Barrels of Powder, with Match and Bullet proportionable, be provided and issued out of the publick Stores, by Sir Walter Erle, Lieutenant General of the Ordnance, for the Service and Safety of the Isle of Ely.

Lancaster Castle.

A Letter from the General, from the Leaguer before Colchester, of 25 Junii 1648, concerning Lancaster Castle, was this Day read.

Answer from Lords.

Colonel Purefoy brings Answer, That the Lords will send Answer by Messengers of their own, to all the Particulars of the Message carried by him Yesterday.

Lancaster Castle.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Gentlemen of the County of Lancaster, to consider of, and nominate, a fit Person to command the Castle of Lancaster; what Garison will be sufficient for the Security of that Place; and how they may be paid by a certain Establishment by that County.

Lancaster Sequestrations, &c.

An Ordinance for adding Four Gentlemen of the County of Lancaster to the Committee of Sequestrations in the County of Westmorland; and for raising Four thousand Pounds out of the Sequestrations of the said County of Westmorland, for Payment of the Forces under the Command of Colonel Ralph Ashton; was this Day read; and, upon the Question, committed unto Mr. Fell, Mr. Langton, Sir Ralph Ashton, Colonel Moor, Mr. Swynfen, Sir Walter Erle; or any Three of them: And are to report on Monday Morning next.

Baxter's Commission.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee at Derby House, to grant a Commission to Captain Baxter for commanding a Troop of Horse of Volunteers, in the County of Norfolke and Suffolke.

Treaty with the King.

Resolved, &c. That the Business touching a Treaty with the King, in order to a Peace, the which stands now referred to a Committee of Lords and Commons, be taken into Debate in the House, on Monday Morning next, at Ten of Clock; and nothing to intervene: And that Mr. Speaker put the House in mind hereof.

It is further Ordered, That the Committee do meet in the mean time.

Ordered, That the Members of the House, that are about the Town, be enjoined to attend the House on Monday next.

Upnor Castle.

Ordered, That an Addition of Twenty Men be made, over and above the Establishment, for Upnor Castle: And that it be referred to the Committee of the Army, to bring in an Establishment for the Pay of them.

Sir Martin Lumley brings Answer, That the Lords do agree to the Ordinance for One thousand Pounds for Bristoll; and to the Order for Mr. Scawen, &c. to go to the Army: To the rest, they will send Answer by Messengers of their own.

Derby Horse.

Resolved, &c. That it be referred to the Committee at Derby House, to grant Commissions to Captain Robert Greenwood, Captain Thomas Hatfield, Captain Gabriell Wyan, to command each of them a Troop of Horse, for the Security and Defence of the County of Derbie.

The Lords Concurrence to be desired herein.

Ordered, That the Troops under the Command of Captain Greenwood, Captain Hatfield, and Captain Wyan, be raised and paid out of the Monies arising out of the Sequestrations in the County of Derby.

Leicester Forces.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth approve of the Lord Grey of Groby and Captain Temple's commanding their Respective Regiments, and other Forces raised in the County of Leicester: And that their Service be dispensed with in the House, in the mean time.

Exchange of Prisoners.

Ordered, That the Son of the Lord Inchiquin be sent in a Ship of Force to the Coast of Ireland; and be exchanged for Sir Wm. Fenton, Lieutenant Colonel Fare, Lieutenant Colonel Purdon, and the rest of those that are kept Prisoners by the Lord Inchiquin.
