Reduced Officers.

ORDERED, by the Parliament, That the Report touching the reduced Officers, be made on Tuesday Morning next, the first Business; nothing to intervene.

Probate of Wills.

Ordered, by the Parliament, That the Bill for the Probate of Wills be read on Tuesday Morning next.

Council for the State.

Ordered, by the Parliament, That Robert Warcupp, of Lincoln's Inn, Esquire, be, and is hereby, nominated and appointed to attend the Barons of the Exchequer, in Cases of Appeals depending, and which shall depend before them, upon Sequestrations, as of Counsel for the State; and to give Assistance unto Mr. Attorney in that Business, for the Advantage and Service of the Commonwealth.

Excise.

The House this Day proceeded in the Business of the Rates reported by the Grand Committee for Excise.

Resolved, by the Parliament, That every Pound of Tobacco of the English Plantations, as well already imported, having not paid the Excise, as hereafter to be imported in English Ships or Vessels, shall pay Four-pence per Pound Weight, to be paid by the first Buyer thereof from the Merchant or Importer.

Resolved, by the Parliament, That every Pound of Tobacco, of the English Plantation, as well already imported in Foreign Ships or Vessels, having not paid the Excise, as hereafter to be imported, shall pay Six-pence per Pound Weight, to be paid by the first Buyer thereof from the Merchant or Importer.

Excise.

Resolved, by the Parliament, That all Pepper, as well already imported into this Nation immediately from India, which hath not paid Excise, as which shall be hereafter imported immediately from India, shall pay Three pence in the Pound Weight for Excise, to be paid by the first Buyer thereof from the Merchant or Importer.

The Question being propounded, That all Pepper, as well already imported not immediately from India, which hath not paid Excise, as which shall hereafter be imported not immediately from India, shall pay Four-pence per Pound for Excise, to be paid by the first Buyer from the Merchant or Importer;

The House was divided.

The Yeas went forth.

So it was Resolved, That all Pepper, as well already imported not immediately from India, which hath not paid Excise, as which shall hereafter be imported not immediately from India, shall pay Four-pence per Pound for Excise, to be paid by the first Buyer thereof from the Merchant or Importer.

The humble Petition of the Merchants and Refiners trading in Sugars, Freemen of the City of London, was this Day read.

Resolved, That all Refined Sugars, Double or Single, in the Loaf, as well already imported, which hath not paid Excise, as which shall be hereafter imported, shall pay, per Pound, Six-pence, to be paid by the first Buyer thereof from the Merchant or Importer.

Resolved, That all White Sugars, of the Growth of English Plantations, as well which are already imported, not having paid Excise, as which shall hereafter be imported, shall pay, per Pound Weight, Three-pence, to be paid by the First Buyer from the Merchant or Importer.

The Question being propounded, That all other Sugars, under Whites, from English Plantations, as well already imported, not having paid Excise, as which shall hereafter be imported, shall pay, per Pound Weight, Twopence, to be paid by the first Buyer thereof from the Merchant or Importer.

The Question was put, That that Question be now put:

It passed with the Affirmative.

And the main Question being put;

It was Resolved, That all other Sugars, under Whites, from English Plantations, as well already imported, not having paid Excise, as which shall hereafter be imported, shall pay, per Pound Weight, Two-pence, to be paid by the first Buyer thereof from the Merchant and Importer.

Resolved, That all White Sugars, from any other Places, as well already imported, not having paid Excise, as which shall hereafter be imported, shall pay, per Pound Weight, Three-pence Halfpeny, to be paid by the first Buyer thereof from the Merchant or Importer.

Resolved, That all other Sugars, under Whites, as well Muscovados, as others which come from other Places, as well already imported, not having paid Excise, as which shall be hereafter imported, shall pay, per Pound Weight, Two-pence Halfpeny, to be paid by the first Buyer thereof from the Merchant or Importer.

Resolved, That all Candy White Sugar, already imported, not having paid Excise, as which shall be hereafter imported, shall pay, per Pound, for Excise, Eightpence, to be paid by the first Buyer thereof from the Merchant or Importer.

Resolved, That all Candy Brown Sugar, as well already imported, not having paid Excise, as which shall be hereafter imported, shall pay, per Pound, for Excise, Sixpence, to be paid by the first Buyer thereof from the Merchant or Importer.

Resolved, That all other Grocery Wares, not herein formerly mentioned, as well already imported, not having paid Excise, as which shall hereafter be imported, shall pay Five per Cent. according to the Values set upon them in the Book of Rates of Merchandize, to be paid by the first Buyer thereof from the Merchant or Importer.

Resolved, That all Drugs, as well already imported, not having paid Excise, as which shall hereafter be imported shall pay Five Pounds per Cent. according to the Values set upon them in the said Book of Rates, to be paid by the first Buyer thereof from the Merchant or Importer.

Resolved, That all Mercery Wares, as well already imported, not having paid the Excise, as which shall hereafter be imported, shall pay Seven Pounds Ten Shillings per Cent. according to the Values set upon them in the said Book of Rates, to be paid by the first Buyer thereof from the Merchant or Importer.

Resolved, That Raw Silk, as well already imported, not having paid the Excise, as which shall be hereafter imported, shall pay Five per Cent. according to the Values set upon them in the said Book of Rates, to be paid by the first Buyer thereof from the Merchant or Importer.

Resolved, That all Silks in the Gum ready Thrown, as well already imported, not having paid the Excise, as which shall hereafter be imported, shall pay Seven and an Half per Cent. according to the Values set upon them in the said Book of Rates, to be paid by the first Buyer thereof from the Merchant or Importer.

Resolved, That all other Silks dyed, as well already imported, not having paid the Excise, as which shall hereafter be imported, shall pay Seven and an Half per Cent. according to the Values set upon them in the said Book of Rates, to be paid by the first Buyer thereof from the Merchant or Importer.

Resolved, That Saltery Wares, as well already imported, not having paid Excise, as which shall hereafter be imported, shall pay Seven Pounds Ten Shillings per Cent. according to the Values set upon them in the said Book of Rates, to be paid by the first Buyer thereof from the Merchant or Importer.
