Thursday, the 24th of November, 1653.

Apprehension of Persons.

ORDERED, That the Lord Chief Justice Roll be required to send forth his Warrants for the Apprehension of all such Persons as were Actors in, or A bettors, or Assisters to, the horrid Murther and Outrage committed by some of the Portugal Nation on Tuesday last, and securing them, to the end they may be brought to speedy Justice; and that a Proclamation be sent forth for the better Discovery and Apprehension of all such Persons, to the end they may be proceeded against, accordingly.

Ordered, That Mr. Broughton, Mr. Wingfield, and Mr. King do prepare a Proclamation, accordingly.

Trial of Walton.

Ordered, That the Commissioners for the Great Seal of England be required and authorized to send forth a special Commission of Oyer and Terminer, for Trial of Thomas Walton, for several Murders by him committed in Lemster in the County of Hereford.

Customs.

Ordered, That the Committee for Preservations of the Customs be required and authorized to take care, that there be faithful Persons employed in the Out-Ports.

Assessment.

The Bill, intituled, An Act for an Assessment of One hundred and Twenty thousand Pounds by the Month, for Six Months, from the 25th of December 1653, to the 24th of June then next ensuing, towards the Maintenance of the Armies and Navies of this Commonwealth, was this Day read the Third time,

Resolved, That the Commissioners for the monthly Assessments for the County of Essex, and for the Town of Colchester, be put together in this Bill.

The Question being put, That Thomas Reynolds Commissioner for the monthly Assessments for the County of Essex, shall stand;

It passed in the Negative.

Resolved, That Edward Birkhead and Samuell Gibb Esquires, be added to the Commissioners for the monthly Assessment for the County of Essex.

Resolved, That Robert Holmes, Wm. Neast, John Crofts, Esquires, be added to the Commissioners for the monthly Assessment for the County of Gloucester.

A Proviso was tendered to this Bill, in these Words: "Provided nevertheless, That nothing in this Act shall extend to the Assessing of any Tenement or Cottage which is not above the Value of Three Pounds by the Year, the Owner whereof having no other personal or real Estate to the Value of Ten Pounds;" which was read the First and Second time; and, upon the Question, rejected.

Another Clause was tendered to this Bill, in these Words; viz. "And it is also Enacted, That the Commissioners in this Act appointed, or any of them, are hereby impowered and required forthwith to call before them, in the respective Counties, any Person that hath been Collector for the Loan or Contributions for Ireland; and to examine, upon Oath, what thereof remaineth, that hath been collected and not paid unto the Treasurers appointed for the same; and to demand and receive the same from the said Collectors, or other Person detaining the same; and to return the Money so collected, and the Names of any detaining or refusing to pay the same, or any Part thereof, unto that it may be disposed as the Parliament shall appoint, for the Uses specified in the Act or Acts of Parliament for the said Loan or Contributions:" Which was read the First time, and laid aside.

And the Bill was, upon the Question, passed, and ordered to be printed and published.

Com rs of Assessment.

Ordered, by the Parliament, That Richard Erisey Esquire, and Humfry Penhellick, be, and are hereby, added to the Commissioners for the monthly Assessment in the County of Cornwall; and are authorized to act therein as if they had been named in the Act.

Ordered, That Major-General Desborow be, and is hereby, added to the Commissioners for the monthly Assessment for the City and County of Exeter; and is authorized to act therein, as if he had been named in the Act.

Ordered, That Christofer Piercehay be, and is hereby added to the Commissioners for the monthly Assessment for the County of York; and is authorized to act therein as if he had been named in the Act.

Ordered, That Thomas Holmes Esquire, and John Pateshall, of Leominster, be, and are hereby, added to the Commissioners for the monthly Assessment in the County of Hereford; and are authorized to act therein as if they had been named in the Act.

Ordered, That Lieutenant-colonel Henry Needler be, and is hereby, added to the Commissioners for the monthly Assessment for the County of Kent; and is authorized to act therein as if he had been named in the Act.

Ordered, That Edmond King of Much-Wenlock, Gentleman, Michaell Ould Gentleman, and John Wareham Gentleman, be, and are hereby, added to the Commissioners for the monthly Assessment in the County of Salop; and are authorized to act therein as if they had been named in the Act.

Ordered, That Captain Stephen White be, and is hereby, added to the Commissioners for the monthly Assessment for the County of Chester, and for the City and County of the City of Chester; and is authorized to act therein as if he had been named in the Act.

Ordered, That George Cooper Esquire be, and is hereby added to the Commissioners for the monthly Assessment for the County of Wiltes; and is authorized to act therein as if he had been named in the Act.
