Tuesday, 24th of October, 1654.

Prayers.

Settling the Government.

THE House this Day, according to former Order, was resolved into a Committee of the whole House, upon the Government.

Mr. Speaker left the Chair.
Mr. Hoskins was called to the Chair.
Mr. Speaker resumed the Chair.

Mr. Hoskins reports, the Desire of the said Committee, That the House would give Leave, that the Committee may sit again, on Thursday Morning.

Resolved, That the House be resolved into a Committee of the whole House, on Thursday Morning, upon the Government, according to former Order.

Officers of State.

A Letter from his Highness the Lord Protector, to Mr. Speaker, dated the 5th of October 1654, and read that Day; touching the approving of the Deputy of Ireland, Commissioners of the Great Seal, Commissioners of the Treasury, and the Chief Justices of both the Benches; was now again read.

The Question being propounded, That the Parliament doth approve of Charles Fleetwood Esquire, for Deputy of Ireland;

And the Question being put, That that Question be now put;

It passed with the Affirmative.

And the main Question being put; It was

Resolved, That the Parliament doth approve of Charles Fleetwood Esquire, for Deputy of Ireland.

Resolved, That the Parliament doth approve of Boulstrode Whitelock Esquire, for one of the Lords Commissioners for the Great Seal.

Resolved, That the Parliament doth approve of Sir Thomas Widdrington Serjeant at Law, for one of the Lords Commissioners for the Great Seal.

Resolved, That the Parliament doth approve of John Lisle Esquire, for one of the Lords Commissioners for the Great Seal.

Resolved, That the Parliament doth approve of Bulstrode Whitelock Esquire, Serjeant at Law, one of the Lords Commissioners for the Great Seal, to be one of the Commissioners for the Treasury.

Resolved, That the Parliament doth approve of Sir Thomas Widdrington Knight (Serjeant at Law,) one of the Lords Commissioners for the Great Seal, to be one of the Commissioners for the Treasury.

Resolved, That the Parliament doth approve of John Lisle Esquire, one of the Lords Commissioners for the Great Seal, to be one of the Commissioners for the Treasury.

Resolved, That the Parliament doth approve of Henry Rolle, Lord Chief Justice of the Upper Bench, to be one of the Commissioners for the Treasury.

Resolved, That the Parliament doth approve of Oliver St. John, Lord Chief Justice of the Common Pleas, to be one of the Commissioners for the Treasury.

Resolved, That the Parliament doth approve of Edward Montagu, Esquire, to be one of the Commissioners for the Treasury.

Resolved, That the Parliament doth approve of William Sydenham Esquire, to be one of the Commissioners for the Treasury.

Resolved, That the Parliament doth approve of Henry Rolle Serjeant at Law, to be Chief Justice of the Upper Bench.

Resolved, That the Parliament doth approve of Oliver St. John Esquire, to be Chief Justice of the Common Pleas.

Leave of Absence.

Ordered, That Mr. Tempest, a Member of this House, have Leave to go into the Country.
