Prayers.
Settling the Government.
THE House proceeded upon the Debate of the Bill for the Government.
Resolved, That, in the Thirtieth Chapter, next after the Word "thereunto," these Words be inserted: viz. "and also all and every Person and Persons whatsoever, professing the Popish Religion."
Resolved, That, instead of "January," the Word "October" be inserted.
Resolved, That these Words be added in this Vote, next after the Words, "Popish Religion;" viz. "or that did aid, advise, assist, or abet, in the Rebellion of Ireland, before the Fifteenth Day of September One thousand Six hundred Forty-and-three."
The Question being put, That the First Clause in the Three-and-thirtieth Chapter do stand;
It passed with the Negative.
The Second Clause in this Chapter, and the Proviso therein, being read;
And the Question being put, That this Clause and Proviso do stand;
It passed in the Negative.
Resolved, That it be referred to the Committee for the Affairs of Scotland, to prepare and bring in some Clause upon the Debate of the House, to be inserted in this Bill.
The Four-and-thirtieth Chapter being read;
The Question being put, That these Words, "being resident for the Space of Three Months, or more, before the Time of Election of Members to Parliament, in such County where Election is to be made," do stand in this Chapter.
It passed in the Negative.
The Question being put, That the First Clause in this Chapter, in these Words, viz. "That any Person, not within the former Exceptions, having an Estate of Freehold, of the yearly Value of Forty Shillings, within any County, Riding, Limit, or Place, shall have Liberty to give his Vote for the Election of a Knight or Knights to serve in Parliament for the same County, Riding, Limit, or Place, where the said Land doth lie," do stand in the Chapter;
It passed in the Negative.
The Question being put, That this Clause do stand in this Chapter; viz. "Having an Estate in Freehold to the yearly Value of Forty Shillings, within any County, Riding, Limit, or Place;"
It passed in the Affirmative.
Post Meridiem.

THE Question being put, That these Words in this Chapter, viz. "or having an Estate Real or Personal, to the full and clear Value of Two hundred Pounds or more," do stand;
It passed with the Negative.
The Question being put, That these Words; viz. "or having a Copyhold, or Customary Estate in Lands, of the yearly Value of Ten Pounds," be inserted in this Clause;
The House was divided.

The Five-and-thirtieth Chapter, being read, was committed, to pen a Clause upon the Debate of the House, to be inserted instead of this Clause; viz. to Mr. Lechmere, Mr. York, Colonel Mathews, Sir Charles Wolsley, Mr. Recorder, Mr. Nathaniell Bacon, Mr. Francis Bacon, or any Three of them.
