Wednesday, 25th July, 1660.

Prayers.

JAMES de la Porte, Anthonio Gratiano, Peter Vandermandere, Henry Steinmer, did this Day take the Oaths of Supremacy and Allegiance, before Mr. Speaker at the Table.

Dover Writ.

Ordered, That a new Writ be issued, for Election of a Baron to serve in this present Parliament for the Port of Dover in the County of Kent, in the Place of Edward Mountague, one of the Generals at Sea, and now Earl of Sandwich, called by Writ of his Majesty to the House of Peers; and that Mr. Speaker do issue his Warrant to the Clerk of the Crown in Chancery, to prepare a new Writ for the Purpose aforesaid: Which the Lord Chancellor is to issue and pass under the Great Seal of England accordingly.

Leave to attend Lords.

Ordered, That Sir John Temple Knight, a Member of this House, have the Leave of this House to give his Testimony in the House of Peers, in a Business depending before their Lordships.

Gospel Ministers.

Ordered, That the Petition of the Ministers, appointed for this Day, be taken into Consideration on Friday next, the first Business: And then the Committee are to make their Report upon the Bill touching Ministers Livings.

Wards and Liveries.

Ordered, That the Report upon the Bill concerning the Court of Wards, be taken into Consideration Tomorrow Morning.

Newton's Estate.

A Bill for enabling of John Newton the Younger to sell Lands for Payment of his Debts, was read the First time.

Ordered, That the said Bill be read the Second time on Monday Morning next.

A Message from the Lords, by Mr. Glascock and Mr. * Masters of Chancery;

We are commanded by the Lords to return to you these two Bills; the one for continuing Excise; the other for granting Subsidies of Tonage and Poundage; the Lords signifying their Consent to both of them: And therewith they delivered in the Two Bills.

Book of Rates.

The House took up the Debate of the Book of Rates, relating to the Bill for Tonage and Poundage.

The Particulars under the Letter A, for Goods imported, were read; and, upon the Question, agreed unto.

The Particulars under the Letter C were read.

The Question being propounded, That this House doth adhere to their former Votes touching the Rates upon Cattle to be imported from Ireland into England;

And the Question being put, That the Question be now put;

It passed in the Affirmative:

And the main Question being put;

The House was divided:

The Noes went forth.

And so it was Resolved, That this House doth adhere to their former Vote touching the Rates upon Cattle to be imported from Ireland into England.

The Particulars under the Letter C were, upon the Question, agreed unto.

The Rates under the Letter D were read; and, upon the Question, agreed unto.

The Rates under the Letter E were read; and, upon the Question, agreed unto.

The Rates under the Letter F were read; and, upon the Question, agreed unto.

The Rates under the Letter G were read;

Resolved, That white Sugars be reduced from Nine Pounds Six Shillings and Eight-pence the Hundred, to Seven Pounds Six Shillings and Eight-pence.

Resolved, That brown Sugar, of English Plantations, be at the Rate of One Pound Ten Shillings.

And the said Rates under the Letter G, being put to the Question, were agreed unto.

Resolved, That the Rates upon Calve Skins, not weighing above Thirty-six Pounds the Dozen, be Two Shillings and Six-pence.

And the rest of the Rates under the Letter C, being put to the Question, were agreed unto.

The Rates upon the Letter D were read; and, upon the Question, agreed unto.

The Rates upon the Letter E were read; and, upon the Question, agreed unto.

The Rates under the Letter F were read; and, upon the Question, agreed unto.

Ordered, That this House do, To-morrow Morning, take into Consideration the Rules for Tonage and Poundage; and what Rates shall be laid upon Cattle to be brought out of Scotland.

Ordered, That the Clerk permit the Officers of the Commissioners of the Customs to peruse the Book of Rates now agreed; and to take Notes of all Alterations from the former Book, for their present Direction in this Affair.
