Prayers.

Defaulters to Call of the House.

ORDERED, That Sir John Norton, and Mr. Thurbarne, Defaulters in Attendance upon the Call of the House, but now attending, be excused, and struck out of the List.

Sams' Charities.

The Bill for settling a charitable Use intended by John Sams, was read.

Resolved, &c. That the Bill be read a Second time.

Lord Stafford's Estate.

Sir Thomas Higgons reports some Amendments agreed by the Committee, to which the ingrossed Bill, sent from the Lords, for confirming Agreements between the Lord Viscount Stafford, and his Lady, and their customary Tenants and Copyholders, was committed: Which were delivered in at the Table; and twice read; and, upon the Question, agreed; and the Bill, with the Amendments, read a Third time; and ordered to be returned to the Lords, by Sir Thom. Higgons.

Dunwich Election.

Serjeant Charlton reports from the Committee of Elections, That the Committee had examined the Matter to them referred, touching the Return of a Member to serve for Dunwich, between Sir Thom. Allen and Mr. Wood; and that, upon the whole Evidence, the Committee were of Opinion,

3. That Mr. Wood ought to sit, till the Merits of the Cause be determined.

Malicious Maiming.

The House then proceeded to the Second Reading of the Amendments, sent from the Lords, to the Bill to prevent malicious Maiming and Wounding.

The First Amendment was read the Second time; and, upon the Question, agreed.

The Second Amendment was read the Second time; and being debated;

Resolved, &c. That this Amendment be postponed: And that it be referred to Mr. Attorney General, Mr. Maynard, Mr. Mountague, Sir Robert Steward, Sir Thom. Meeres, Mr. Coleman, Sir Job Charlton, Sir Thom. Lee, Sir John Mallet, Mr. Seymour, Sir John Knight, Sir Rich. Temple, Sir Edw. Thurland, Sir Char. Harbord, Mr. Garraway, Serj. Maynard, Mr. Waller, Mr. Otway, Sir Robert Atkins, Mr. Swynfen, Sir Will. Coventry, Sir Thom. Gower, or any Three of them, to consider of the Amendments, and Debates of the House, and of some Expedient thereupon; and to report the Matter, with their Opinions, to the House: And it is referred to the same Committee, or any Three of them, to prepare Reasons to be offered at a Conference with the Lords, upon the Amendments.

The next Amendment, relating to the former Amendment, was read the Second time: and referred to the same Committee.

The Fourth and Fifth Amendments were twice read; and, upon the Question, agreed to.

The Sixth Amendment being read the Second time;

The Question being put, To agree with the Amendment of the Lords, as to the inserting "the 24th of June 1671," instead of "the 16th of February;"

It passed in the Negative.

Resolved, &c. That after the Word "Nose," it be inserted "cut off a Nose or Lip."

The Question being put, To agree to the Words "or Joint;"

It passed in the Negative.

Resolved, &c. That the Words, "and not by Chancemedley, a Fray, or Misfortune," be omitted.

Resolved, &c. That the Words, beginning with "Intention," to the End of the Amendment, be omitted.

Resolved, &c. That the Paragraph, sent from the Lords, by way of Amendment, with the Amendments abovesaid, be agreed.

The Seventh Amendment being read the Second time;

It passed in the Negative.

The Eighth Amendment being read a Second time;

The Question being put, To agree to the Amendment, sent from the Lords;

It passed in the Negative.

Committee of Privileges.

Ordered, That Mr. Newport, Mr. Nevill, Mr. Vaughan, Mr. Wynne, be added to the Committee of Privileges.

Committee of Grievances.

Ordered, That the Committee of Grievances do sit on Friday next, and on Wednesdays and Fridays following.

Indigent Officers.

Ordered, That Leave be given to bring in a Bill on the Behalf of the indigent loyal Officers: And it is referred to Sir Thom. Meeres and Sir Charles Harbord, to prepare and bring in the Bill.

Committees.

Ordered, That all Committees that were to sit this Afternoon, be adjourned.
