Prayers.

Leave of Absence.

ORDERED, That Mr. Lewes have the Leave of the House to go into the Country, to attend the Funeral of his Son.

Bills sent from Lords.

A Message from the Lords, by Sir Will. Child and Mr. Beversham;

Mr. Speaker, The Lords have returned you Three Bills; The First, An Act for granting to Sir Philip Howard and Francis Watson Esquire, the sole Use of a Manufacture, Art or Invention, for the Benefit of Shipping.

With some Amendments; to which they desire the Concurrence of this House: And they have agreed to the Amendments of the Earl of Shrewsbury's Bill.

The Amendment and Clause, to be added to the Bill for confirming an Agreement between his Majesty and his Royal Highness, were thrice read; and agreed; and the Bill ordered to be returned to the Lords, by the Lord Ancram.

Sams' Charities &c.

Ordered, That the Committees, to which the Bill concerning the charitable Use of Mr. Sams, and the Bill for Repair of Churches, be revived; and do sit this Afternoon.

Conventicles.

Resolved, That the Report of the Bill against Conventicles be heard on Monday Morning next.

Broad-loom Weavers.

A Petition of the Broad-loom or the Engine-loom Weavers was read.

Ordered, That this Petition be referred to the same Committee, to which the Bill on the Behalf of the Company of Weavers, London, is committed, to take the Matter of the Petition into Consideration; and report it, with their Opinions therein, to the House.

Preventing Growth of Popery.

Resolved, &c. That the Report of the Committee, appointed to inquire into the Causes of the Growth of Popery, be heard immediately after the Report of the Bill of Subsidies is dispatched.

Supply Bill; Subsidies.

The House then proceeded in the Second Reading of the rest of the Amendments to the Bill of Subsidies.

The several Amendments, preceding the Amendment to the 10th Line of the 17th Fol. were, upon the Second Reading, severally agreed.

The Amendment, to the 10th Line of the 17th Fol. being read a Second time;

The Question being put, To agree with the Committee in that Amendment;

The House divided.

The Noes go out.

And so it was resolved in the Affirmative.

The Amendments to the 24th Fol. Line 4 and 5, was read the Second time;

And the Question being put, To agree with the Committee;

It passed in the Negative.

The Word "transferred," on the Question, to be left out on the several Amendments.

The rest of the Amendments, all but the last, were, upon the Second Reading, upon the Question, agreed.

The last Amendment, being to add a Clause, for doubly assessing the Members Defaulters in Attendance, in the Bill of Subsidies, being read the Second time.

The Question being put, To agree to the Amendments;

The House divided.

The Noes go out.

Some other Amendments to the Bill were, upon the Question, agreed; and inserted in the Bill at the Table.

A Proviso, to excuse Ground unbuilt, and Houses untenanted, yielding no Profit, from being rated, was twice read; and, upon the Question, agreed to be made Part of the Bill.

Resolved, &c. That the Bill, with the Amendments agreed to, be ingrossed.

Ordered, That Leave be given to bring in a Proviso, for Liberty for Persons, that desire it, to swear in their Discharge.

Ordered, That Leave be given for bringing in a Proviso, for taxing Places privileged, and which heretofore, by reason thereof, have escaped.

Preventing Growth of Popery.

Ordered, That the Report of the Committee, appointed to inquire into the Causes of the Growth of Popery, be heard To-morrow Morning, at Ten of the Clock; and no other Business to intervene.

Employment of the Poor.

Ordered, That the Committee, to whom the Petitions of the Parishioners of the Parish of St. Giles in the Fields, and the Petitions of other Parishes, are committed, be revived; and do sit on Saturday next in the Afternoon.

Defaulters to Call of the House.

Resolved, &c. That the List of the Members, Defaulters in Attendance, be called over, next after the Report of the Committee appointed to inquire into the Causes of the Growth of Popery is dispatched: And that such Defaulters, whose Excuses shall not be allowed, shall be sent for in the Custody of the Serjeant at Arms attending this House, at their own Charge; and be brought to the Bar of this House, there to receive the Sentence of the House: And if any Defaulter shall presume to come into the House, before he render himself to the Serjeant at Arms, the Serjeant is to acquaint the Speaker therewith.

Committees.

Ordered, That all Committees that were to sit this Afternoon, be adjourned.

And then the House adjourned till To-morrow Morning, Eight of the Clock.
