Northern Borders.

A BILL for Continuance of Three former Acts for Prevention of Theft and Rapine on the Northern Borders of England, was read.

Resolved, That the Bill be read a Second time.

Aylesbury Election.

A Petition of Sir Thomas Lee, touching the Election for the Borough of Aylesbury in the County of Bucks, was read.

Ordered, That the said Petition be referred to the Consideration of the Committee of Elections and Privileges; to examine the Matter thereof; and report the same, with their Opinion therein, to the House.

Devon Election.

A Petition of Samuel Rolls Esquire, touching the Election for the County of Devon, was read.

Ordered, That the said Petition be referred to the Consideration of the Committee for Elections and Privileges; to examine the Matter thereof; and report the same, with their Opinion therein, to the House.

Meller's Estate.

A Petition of Edward Meller Esquire, and others, was read.

Ordered, That Leave be given to bring in a Bill to enable Edward Meller Esquire to sell certain Lands, for Payment of his Debts.

Preston Writ.

Sir Thomas Chichley being chosen and returned Burgess to serve in this present Parliament for the Town of Cambridge, and also for the Borough of Preston in the County of Lancaster; and having made his Election to serve for the Town of Cambridge;

Ordered, That Mr. Speaker do issue out his Warrant to the Clerk of the Crown, to make out a new Writ, for the Election of a Burgess to serve in this present Parliament for the Borough of Preston in the County of Lancaster.

Woollen Manufacture.

A Bill for Encouragement of the Woollen Manufacture, being presented to the House;

Ordered, That the Bill do lie upon the Clerk's Table.

St. Mawes Election.

Sir Jos. Tredenham being elected and returned a Burgess to serve in this present Parliament as well for the Borough of St. Mawes, as for the Borough of Grampound, in the County of Cornwall, made his Election to serve for the Borough of Grampound.

Ordered, That Mr. Speaker do issue his Warrant to the Clerk of the Crown, to make out a new Writ, for electing a Burgess to serve in this present Parliament, for the Borough of St. Mawes in the County of Cornwall.

Shaftsbury Election.

A Petition of Sir Matthew Andrews Knight, touching the Election for the Borough of Shaftsbury in the County of Dorsett, was read.

Ordered, That the said Petition be referred to the Consideration of the Committee of Elections and Privileges; to examine the Matter thereof; and report the same, with their Opinion therein, to the House.

Thetford Election.

The House then, according to their Order Yesterday made, proceeded to a Hearing of the Matter of the Return of Burgesses to serve in this present Parliament for the Borough of Thetford, in the County of Norfolk.

And the Counsel on both Sides being called in, and heard at the Bar of this House;

And being ordered to withdraw;

Resolved, That no Mayor can duly return himself a Burgess to serve in Parliament for the same Borough of which he is a Mayor at the Time of the Election.

Resolved, That no Mayor, Bailiff, or other Officer of a Borough, who is the proper Officer to whom the Precept ought to be directed, is capable of being elected to serve in Parliament for the same Borough, of which he is Mayor, Bailiff, or Officer, at the Time of the Election.

Resolved, &c. That Henry Heveningham Esquire is not duly returned a Burgess to serve in this present Parliament for the Borough of Thetford in the County of Norfolk.

Supply Bill; Duty on Wines, &c.

A Bill for granting to his Majesty an Imposition upon Wines and Vinegar imported, was read a Second time.

Resolved, That the Bill be committed to a Committee of the whole House.

Resolved, That this House do immediately resolve itself into a Committee of the whole House, to proceed in the Consideration of the said Bill.

Mr. Speaker left the Chair.
Mr. Solicitor General took the Chair of the Committee.
Mr. Speaker resumed the Chair.

Mr. Solicitor General reports from the Committee of the whole House, That the Committee, having taken the Matter to them referred into their Consideration, had agreed upon several Amendments to be made to the Bill: Which he read in his Place; and afterwards delivered them in at the Clerk's Table; the Amendments being as follows:

Folio 2, Line 6, After the Word "the," and before the Word "Day," insert the Words "Twenty-fourth Day of "June;" and, after the Word "of," and before the Word "in," insert the Word "June."

Line 7, After the Word "the," and before the Word "Day," insert the Words "Twenty-fourth;" and, after the Word "of," and before the Word "in," insert the Word "June."

Line 8, After the Word "Lord," and before the Word "shall," insert the Words "One thousand Six hundred "Ninety-three."

Folio 4, Line 3, After the Word "within," insert the Words "Three Months."

Line 4, After the Word "within," insert the Words "Six Months."

Line 6, After the Word "within," insert the Words "Nine Months."

Folio 5, Line 1, That the Clause be left out Folio 1, to Folio 8, to "provided."

The said Amendments, being read a Second time, were, with an Amendment made at the Table, severally agreed to by the House.
