Laughton en le Morthen (W.R.): held by Roger de Bully in 1086 (Yorks. DB fos. 319, 379), escheated to Crown 1102. Church of Laughton gr. by queen to cath. as preb. prob. 1104, kg.'s conf. prob. 1105 (Regesta II nos. 675, 720). Tithes had previously been gr. by Henry I to priory of Blyth (ibid. nos. 598, 704), but conf. to cath. before 1107 (ibid. nos. 807-8). See also Cart. Blyth pp. lxxxi-lxxxii. Disputes with Blyth: settlements 1224 (ibid. and no. 317) and 1287, whereby pension of £2 p.a. payable to Blyth (ibid. no. 467).

Advowson of chapel of Thorpe Salvin belonged to church of Laughton, final concord 23 Aug. 1230 (Yorks. Fines 1218-31 p. 128).

Preb. gr. 2½m. p.a. from church of Handsworth (W.R.) c. 1201; rectors to be pres. by patron to dean and chapter and can. of this preb. (EYC VI no. 110).

Occ. as this preb., making agreement by proxy with priory of Blyth, 1224 (Cart. Blyth nos. 317, 319) and making final concord by proxy 23 Aug. 1230 (Yorks. Fines 1218-31 p. 128).
