Does not occ. as can. of St Asaph. Occ. as bp.'s vice-gerent 18 x 24 Oct. 1217 (Cart. Shrewsbury II 332, no. 122b). Perhaps to be identified with M. Adam, clerk and envoy of Prince Llywelyn, who occ. together with M. David archdcn. of St Asaph (perhaps his father), 27 May 1231 (Pat. Rolls 1225-32 p. 436; above, list 25). Not likely to be identified with M. Adam who occ. as bp.'s official ? c. 1250 (Cart. Haughmond no. 670).

Occ. as can., without location, as witness to a ch. of bp. Reiner, 1186 x 1204 (Cart. Haughmond no. 1111). If can. of St Asaph, he would be the earliest known.

M. Anian of Montgomery (fn. 1)

First occ. as M. Anian can. of St Asaph 8 May 1282 (Reg. of John Pecham, Abp. of Canterbury, ed. F. N. Davis, D. L. Douie et al. (2 vols., CYS lxiv-lxv, 1968-9) I 172). Occ. frequently. Appd. official of Llandaff, s.v., 7 June 1288 (ibid. II 6). His [? bursarial] preb. worth £1 in 1291 (Taxatio p. 288b). Called M. Anian of Montgomery when appd. official of St Asaph, s.v., 13 March 1293 (Churchill, Cant. Admin. II 265). Occ. at el. of bp. Llywelyn May 1293 (Canterbury cath. Reg. Q fo. 65r). Member of bp.
