PRECENTORY

Dignity established 1224, with endowment of 10m from prebs. and commons of non-resident cans. (St Davids Acta no. 85), Evidently had been increased to 15m by 1259/60, when bp. gr. land at Trefgarn in exchange for the annual payment of 15m which chapter previously paid to prec. (ibid. no. 132; cf. Valor IV 382b for Llandridian and Trefgarn). Preb. of Lampeter-pont-Stephen was attached to precentory in 14th cent. (2 Fasti XI 56), but no evidence that 13th-cent. precs. held this preb.

Valuation 1291 £8 13s. 4d. (Taxatio p. 274a).

Last occ. 14 June 1300 (Reg. of Thomas Corbridge Abp. of York 1300- 1304, [ed. W. Brown and A. H. Thompson] I (Surtees Soc. cxxxviii, 1925) 202). His successor occ. 17 March and 21 May 1328 (2 Fasti XI 56).
