Dignity established 1224, with endowment of 10m from prebs. and commons of non-resident cans. (St Davids Acta no. 85), Evidently had been increased to 15m by 1259/60, when bp. gr. land at Trefgarn in exchange for the annual payment of 15m which chapter previously paid to prec. (ibid. no. 132; cf. Valor IV 382b for Llandridian and Trefgarn). Preb. of Lampeter-pont-Stephen was attached to precentory in 14th cent. (2 Fasti XI 56), but no evidence that 13th-cent. precs. held this preb.

Valuation 1291 £8 13s. 4d. (Taxatio p. 274a).
