Footnotes

  • 1. Langeton d. 16 Nov. according to Le Neve-Hardy, but the abp's mand. to the custodians of the bpc., sede vacante, was issued 13 Nov. 1321 (Lamb., Reg. Reynolds f. 127), so it seems that 9 Nov. is the correct date of d.
  • 2. Stretton was D.C.L. according to Le Neve-Hardy. But he was said to have been illiterate (Lamb., Reg. Islip f. 168) and his profession to Canterbury was read for him (ibid.). His degree has been omitted here as there is no evidence for it. It has been suggested that he was suffering from defective sight at the time of his prov. to the bpc. and was not illiterate (1st and 2nd Reg. of Bishop R. de Stretton, ed. R. A. Wilson (William Salt Archacol. Soc., 1905-7) 1 ix n. 5).
  • 3. This date for the trans. of Arundel to Exeter is given in the reg. of abp. Warham (Lamb., Reg. Warham 11 f. 205). The date 30 June 1502 is given elsewhere (Reg. xiii (Arundel) f. 200), but the Canterbury reg. is probably correct.
  • 4. Lee is said to have d. 'In festo Sancti Pauli' (A.C. IV f. 25b). Since Jan. is given as the month of his d. in another source (Brit. Mus., Cotton MS. Vespasian E. xvi f. 35b), it appears that 25 Jan., the date of the Conversio of St Paul is intended, rather than the feast of the Commemoratio, 30 June.
