De Comite prov. after 8 May 1289 (CPL. 1 509-10)-had been prov. to preb. in Lichfield vac. by cons. of William de la Corner as bp. of Salisbury (ibid.). Bogo de Clare pres. to preb. 1289 by John de Colwich who claimed to be patron of Colwich ch. (ibid.). Papal mand. 24 Nov. ordering removal of Clare since claims of John de Colwich invalid (ibid. p. 510). Not clear who in possession of preb. 1289-1300, since by 17 Jan. 1300 de Comite engaged in litigation about preb. of Whittington and Berkswick (ibid. p. 591). Unable to obtain possession so probably reoccupied Colwich (ibid.). Turvill coll. 27 March 1315 (Reg. 1 (Langeton) f. 47b), but de Comite occ. as preb. 7 Sept. 1316 (CPL. 11 124). D. as preb. 10 Sept. 1322, since prov. then made to Paul de Comite (P.R.O., C 47/16/1 No. 18; CPL. 11 227).

It was said in Le Neve-Hardy that George Strangeways res. the preb. of Stotfold in 1500 and was coll. to Colwich, but it was not realised that Edward Strangeways also held a preb. in Lichfield at this time. The careers and personalities of these two men have been described (Emden, Reg. Ox. 111 1795-6).
