Despenser and Walsham obtained archdcnry by royal gr. from the Prince of Wales during vac. of bpc., 11 Oct.-15 Dec. 1361 (CPP. 1 490-1, 524). Banastre said to have been intruded into archdcnry by bp. Cradock, who was prov. 15 Dec. (ibid.). Prov. to archdcnry 1 June 1363 (ibid. p. 424). Despenser petitioned pope 20 Apr. 1364 that he should be permitted to retain archdcnry because Banastre had then res. at curia (ibid. pp. 490-1). Southam had been prov., n.d., petitioned pope 7 Apr. 1366 to be permitted to resign archdcnry, petition gr. since Walsham occ. 15 Apr. (ibid. p. 524). Exch. archdcnry with Richard Boule for ch. of Tettenhall Wood, Staffs., 11 Nov. 1368 (Lichfield, Reg. IV (Stretton) f. 60).
