Hywel if found fit in Latin although he had obtained archdcnry in ignorance that it had been reserved to pope during lifetime of Caunton, previous archdcn. (ibid.). Royal gr. to Clyewe 18 Oct. 1359 (CPR 1358-1361 p. 301). Martin engaged in litigation about archdcnry, stated 24 Aug. 1360 that had obtained three sentences in his favour, but that Hywel had d. before he could execute judgt. (CPP. I 316). Martin petitioned s.d. for rights of Hywel in archdcnry (ibid. p. 358). Clyewe appears to have res. claims since Martin occ. as archdcn. 30 Jan. 1361 (ibid. p. 365).

  • 5. The d. of one Robert Keir, arcdcn. of Carmarthen, is recorded on 27 June 1488 in a series of Welsh obits (Cambridge, Trinity College MS. 224 f. 1). This is presumably the same man.
