Footnotes

  • 1. John Barry is said to have been preb. of Llangan 1406 (Menevia Sacra p. 262-authority Browne Willis MS. collections). John Colle and John Scot who are also given as prebs. of Llangan, following Barry, have not been included here as the evidence is insufficient. 'John Cole is said to have been collated Prebendary of Llangan 21 Jan. 1406, though I find not this in ye Register' (ibid.). There is similarly no evidence for the collation of John Scot in succession to Colle (ibid.).
  • 2. Richard Smithe, described as 'parson of Llangan', was imprisoned for treasonable words 23 Feb. 1540 (L. & P. XV No. 252 (2)). It has been suggested that Smithe could have been an alias for Rawlings or Gwent (ibid. n.).
