Footnotes

  • 1. The preb. of Gates is not named in the list of prebendaries and dignitaries 30 June 1478 (Reg. Story 1 ff. 3-4b). Three other prebends, Colworth, Middleton and Seaford, are likewise unnamed, and two men, John Gourll and Thomas Hawkins are given as prebendaries of unspecified prebends. John Gourll was preb. of Colworth (cf. p. 18), and it is probable that Seaford was already held by John Plente, archdcn. of Lewes (cf. p. 38 n.). Thus Thomas Hawkins was preb. of either Gates or Middleton, and it is probable that the other unknown prebendary was Peter Husy, archdcn. of Chichester.
