Footnotes

  • 1. The abbey and its revenues had been annexed to the bishopric of Norwich by act of parliament, 4 Feb. 1536 (27 Hen. VIII c. 45), which act also transferred all the temporalities of the bishopric of Norwich to the Crown. As a result, the abbey of St. Benet, Hulme, was never formally dissolved, This 'exchange' was totally disadvantageous to William Rugge, and his debts were the ostensible reason for his forced resignation in 1550.
  • 2. In accordance with Stat. 1 Will. & Mary c. 8 s. 7, by which the holders of any benefice who had not sworn allegiance to William and Mary were suspended 1 Aug. 1689, and depriv. 1 Feb. 1690.
