William Boteler, late of Coventry, being seised of the under-mentioned manors in fee, gave them to the said Edmund, and Elizabeth his wife, who survives, with remainder as to the manor of Kyngeston (two closes only reserved to the said William in fee) to the heirs of the body of the said Edmund with remainder to his right heirs, and with remainder as to the manor of Compton to the heirs male of the body of the said Edmund.
He died 6 Feb. last. Richard Verney, aged 30 and more, is his son and heir.
WARW. Manor of Kyngston, with the exception of two closes, the one called ‘Le Est Feld,’ late in the tenure of John Thomkyns, lying towards Egyngton, and the other called ‘Le West Fild,’ late in the tenure of William Burton, lying towards Lighthorn, worth together with the said two closes 20 marks, and held of the heirs of the Earl of Warwick.

He and the Warden of Tatteshale College gave the under-mentioned manor, advowson, and lands to the Bishops of Durham and Lichfield and others (as in No. 1043), to the use of his last will.
By his last will he directed that his said feoffees should enfeoff Robert Tailboys, one of his sons, of the said manor, the advowson excepted, and of the said messuage and land in Oxton, for the term of his life, with reversion to the said feoffees, to the use of his own right heirs.
He died the last day but one of January last. George Tailboys, aged 28 and more, is his son and heir.

LINCOLN CITY. A capital messuage called ‘le Swan’ in the parish of St. Martin, another messuage in Newport in the said city, twelve cottages and two crofts in the said city and its suburbs in the parishes of St. Nicholas and St. Rumwald, and two tenements in the parish of St. Mary the Virgin of Craykpole and St. Stephen, worth 63s. 4d., held of the Mayor and citizens of Lincoln, by service of free burgage according to the custom of the said city, and they hold of the King, service unknown.

John Warde, citizen and alderman of London, and John Breteyn, clk., were seised of the under-mentioned manor and of the under-mentioned lands in Otham, and were also seised of the under-mentioned land in Maidstone and land called ‘Longmede’ to the use of the said Ralph Astry, knt., citizen and alderman of London and his heirs to the use of his last will. And afterwards upon a covenant of marriage between him and Margery Revell, widow, afterwards his wife, who survives, and at his request, they demised the said manor, lands, and tenements by deed dated 29 Sept., 9 Hen. VII, to her for the term of life without impeachment of waste, with remainder to him, Ralph Tylney, citizen and alderman of London, John Wynger, grocer, Richard Hill, tailor, Richard Gadd, barber, John Benyngton and Philip Edward, grocers, and Thomas Kneesworth, William Copynger, Nicholas Mattok, William Barde, and John Wilshyre, fishmongers and citizens of London, who survive, and to James Bartelott now deceased, in fee, to the use of him and his heirs and of his last will.
He died 18 Nov. last. William Astry, aged 23 and more, is his son and heir.
KENT. Manor of Brysshyng, held of John, Abbot of St. Augustine’s without the walls of Canterbury, as of the manor of Holyngbourne, co. Kent, service unknown.

1057 JOHN RUMSEY.

William Wymbourne, late vicar of Elyngham, Hants, being seised of the under-mentioned manor of Bykton in fee, gave it to Arthur Frank for the term of his life, with remainder to Richard Frank his son in tail, with remainder to Elizabeth, Richard’s sister, in tail, with remainder to Richard Romsey in tail.
The said Richard Frank and Elizabeth having died issueless in the lifetime of the said Arthur, upon his death the said manor remained per formam doni to the said Richard Romsey, who continued in possession upwards of 40 years and died seised of it in fee tail, leaving issue John Romsey, named in the writ, who entered on possession of and peacefully enjoyed it 33 years and more till his death, when it descended to John Romsey the younger as his son and heir.
He died 19 July last seised of the other under-mentioned manors in fee. The said John Romsey the younger, aged 34 and more at the date of the inquisition, is his son and heir.

Henry Spilman and others, being seised of the under-mentioned manor of Merton to the use of him and his heirs, demised it at his request to Henry Teye, esq., and others to the use of Grace his wife for the term of her life, with remainder to him, the said William Grey, and others, to the use of him and his heirs and of his last will.
John Fyncham and others, being seised of the under-mentioned manor of Haddeston to the use of him and his heirs, demised it at his request to him and the said Grace and others for the term of his and her lives in survivorship, with remainder to Thomas his son in tail, with remainder to Edmund Grey his son by the said Grace in tail, with remainder to the right heirs of the bodies of Thomas de Grey and Isabel his wife.
He died 12 Feb. last. Thomas Grey, aged 15 and more, is his son and heir.

By deed dated 10 Aug., 10 Richard III, he enfeoffed John Wyngfeld, knt., and Edward Bartelot of the under-mentioned manor and advowson to the use of himself and Katharine his wife, who survives, during their lives, with remainder to the use of Humphrey Fulford, knt., and Florence his wife and the heirs of her body. By letters patent dated 3 July, 5 Hen. VII, the said feoffees received the King’s pardon for the acquisition.
He died 24 Aug. last. Elizabeth wife of Thomas West, knt., aged 21 and more, the said Florence, aged 22 and more, and John Coplyston, aged 17 and more, are his next heirs, the said Elizabeth and Florence being his daughters and the said John being son of Ralph, son of Anne, the other of his daughters and heirs.

Isabel Sapcott, widow, late wife of John Frances, was seised at her death of the under-mentioned moiety of the manor of Helehawgh in fee.
She held at her death the under-mentioned manor of Nun-Appilton and moieties of the manors of Thirkylby, Helperthorp, and Catwyke for the term of her life without impeachment of waste, with remainder to Alice now wife of William Staveley and late wife of John Worsley for the term of her life without impeachment of waste, with remainder to her, the said Isabel’s, right heirs, as appears by a fine thereof levied, Easter Term 3 Edw. IV, to the said John Worsley and Alice then his wife and the heirs of their bodies, which John is now deceased without issue, with remainder to the said Isabel’s right heirs.
The said Alice moreover held at the time of her, the said Isabel’s, decease the under-mentioned manor of Beaune and lands in Bilton, Fauconberge, and Hedon for the term of her life, with remainder expectant to the said Isabel and her heirs.
She died 1 March, 9 Hen. VII. Joan wife of William Nevyll, aged 48, Alice wife of William Staveley, aged 44, and Joan wife of Thomas Sapcote, aged 34 and more at the time of her death, are her daughters and heirs.
YORK. A moiety of the manor of Helehawgh in Swaldale, worth 20 marks, held of the Countess of Richmund, the King’s mother, as of Richmund Castle, by 1/40 of a knight’s fee, and by 6s. 8d. rent at Whitsuntide and Martlemas yearly, for all service.

John Mountpesson, esq., John Peverell, clk., and Thomas Soper, gent., demised the under-mentioned manors and park to her for the term of her life, with remainder to Thomas West, now Lord La Warr, her son, and his heirs for ever.
By deed dated 20 Jan., 7 Hen. VII, she demised the said premises to her said son, for an annuity agreed upon between them, from Michaelmas then next for 100 years, the term to cease on her death.
She died 12 May, 10 Hen. VII. The said Thomas West, Lord la Warr, aged 32 and more, is her son and heir.
WILTS. Manors of Hasilden, Braddell, Upton, Sutton Maundvyle, Stratford Tony and Wyke, and the park of Roucombe, worth 24l., held of the Warden of the College of St. Mary, Winchester, service unknown.

BUCKS. She was born at Great Missenden 18 Oct., 17 Edw. IV, and baptised by John Warde the parish priest in the church there, John Toft, Prior of the Monastery of Missenden, Margery Hampden, of Hampden on the Hill, and another, being gossips. Maud, wife of Thomas Barnard (a juror aged 48 and more), was present with other women, with Joan Iwardby her mother at the time of her birth, &c.

1072 JOHN FYSSHE.
Writ 8 Oct., inq. 18 Oct., 10 Hen. VII.
William Esthalle, being seised of the under-mentioned manor in fee, gave it to William Esthalle his son in tail, with remainder in default to Maud, daughter of him the said William the father in tail, with remainder in default to Christine his other daughter also in tail.
William Esthalle the son being seised of the said manor accordingly in fee tail died without issue, his sister Maud had predeceased him without issue, wherefore the said Christine entered upon the said manor and was seised of it in fee tail, and being so seised had issue a daughter Margaret married to Thomas Wotton.
After the death of the said Christine the said Thomas and Margaret Wotton entered upon the said manor and were seised of it in fee tail in her right, and had issue a son William to whom after their death the said manor descended. On his death it descended to another William, as his son and heir, who, being seised thereof accordingly in fee tail, enfeoffed Thomas Curson and others, who survive, thereof, in fee to the use of Eleanor his wife and after her decease to the use of the heirs of his body in tail, with remainder to the use of him the said William and his heirs.
The last named William Wotton had issue Katharine married to John Fyssh named in the writ, and Margaret married to John Gausell, and died. The said John Fyssh with the assent of the said William Wotton received the issues and profits of the said manor.
The said Eleanor, Katharine, and Margaret still survive, but the jurors also say that the said Katharine on St. Ann’s day, 9 Hen. VII, was attainted before John Feneux and his colleagues the King’s justices, assigned for the gaol delivery of Norwich castle of the wilful murder of the said John Fyssh her husband.
The said John Fyssh died on the feast of Pentecost last ….. Fyssh is his brother and heir.
NORF. Manor called ‘Est Halle’ with its appurtenances in Great Pagrave, and elsewhere in the county, worth 5 marks, held of Edmund Benyngfelde, knt., by service of 12 1/2d. yearly, for all service.

CAMB. Manor of Childerley called ‘Okeleys maner,’ held of the King in chief, as of the honor of Huntingdon, by service of 1/2 of a knight’s fee. There are in the said manor a site built on worth 5s. yearly, six times twenty acres of land worth 6d. each, 7a. meadow worth 12d. each, 12a. wood of no yearly value unless sold, and 5s. rent of assise belonging to the said manor worth 5s. yearly.

She was seised, together with John Doun, knt., Robert Knyght, clk., and William Halgh, who survive, of the under-mentioned manor, grange, and lands in Dullyngham, &c., in fee, to the use of her and her heirs.
Thomas Lokton, esq., being seised of the under-mentioned tenement called ‘Legates’ in fee, on the 6th of January, 7 Edw. IV, enfeoffed William Alington and the said Joan then his wife, William Hamond, Robert Knyght, John Culpy, and William Halgh thereof, to hold to them and the heirs of the bodies of the said William and Joan, with remainder in default to the heirs of the body of the said Joan, with remainder in default to the heirs of the bodies of John Ansty and Joan his wife, daughter of the late Henry Strete, esq. William Alington died without heir of his body begotten on the said Joan, and the said William Hamond and John Culpy having also died, the said Joan, Robert Knyght, and William Halgh, the survivors, were seised of the said tenement, and being so seised the said Joan died without issue, and the said Robert Knyght and William Halgh survived her and were and are still seised thereof in their demesne as of frank tenement.
William Wolflete, clk., and John Battisford were seised of the under-mentioned manor in Hynton in fee, and being so seised made an entail of it similar to the above.
She died 6 March, 8 Hen. VII. Elizabeth Taylard, wife of William Taylard, esq., aged 40 and more, is her sister and heir.

John Colvyle, knt., his father being seised of the under-mentioned manor and lands in fee, demised the manor of Halsted to William Calthorp, knt., and others now deceased, for the term of the life of Anne his wife, to the use of himself and the said Anne. The said William and his co-feoffees were accordingly seised of the said manor in their demesne as of frank tenement with reversion expectant to the said John and his heirs. The reversion descended on John’s death to the said Francis as his son and heir, and on the said Francis’ death, 28 Feb., 8 Hen. VII, to Richard Colvyle his son and heir, being in the King’s custody.
The other manor and lands, whereof the said John died seised in fee, descended at his death to the said Francis who was then under age; and William, Bishop of Lincoln, as the lord of whom the same were held having taken possession, sold the custody of them to the said Anne to hold during the said Francis’ minority. She married Robert Brandon, knt., and when the said Francis came of age and desired to enter into the said manors and lands as his right and inheritance, Brandon forcibly excluded him.
The said Anne died 6 July last. On her death the said Richard Colvyle, as son and heir of the said Francis entered into the said manors and lands. He is aged 14 and more.
