109. ROBERT ACHARD.
Writ, 23 September, 27 Edward III.
BERKS. Inq. taken at Aldermaston, 29 September, 27 Edward III.
Aldermaston. The manor held jointly with Agnes his wife, who survives, of the king in chief by service of a knight’s fee by a fine levied in the king’s court, of the gift of Master Walter de Stratton, parson of the church of Shalyngford, and Thomas de Amewyk to the said Robert and Agnes for their lives, with remainder to Peter Achard and his heirs by Elizabeth his wife. The said Elizabeth died without heir of her body by him. After the said Peter’s death without such heir, the manor remains to Peter de la Mare, knight, and Joan his wife for their lives, with further remainders to Thomas, the said Peter’s son, and the heirs of his body, and Richard, brother of the said Thomas, and his heirs.
He died on 19 September last. Peter Achard, his son, aged 40 years and more, is his heir.

Spersholte. The manor (extent given), except the advowson of the church, held of the king in chief by service of a knight’s fee by fine levied in the king’s court with the king’s licence, of the gift of the abovesaid Walter and Thomas, to hold to the said Robert for life, with successive remainders to Peter Achard and Elizabeth his wife and the heirs of their bodies; to John, brother of Peter, for his life; to Peter de la Mare, knight, and Joan his wife for their lives; to Thomas, son of the said Peter de la Mare, and the heirs of his body; and to Richard, brother of the said Thomas, and his heirs.
Estmanton by Spersholte. The manor held jointly with Agnes his wife of Robert de Freschevill by service of a knight’s fee by fine levied in the king’s court of the gift of Master Walter de Stratton, parson of the church of Shalyngford, and Walter de Worth, parson of the church of Chelreye, to hold for their lives, with successive remainders to Peter Achard and Elizabeth his wife and the heirs of their bodies; to Thomas de la Mare and the heirs of his body, and to Richard, brother of the said Thomas, and his heirs.

BERKS. Inq. taken at Balatteston, 3 December, 27 Edward III (defective).
Ingelflod Balat, now called Balateston. A messuage and 100a. land, 40a. heath, 2a. meadow, 7a. pasture, 6a. thick wood and … yearly rent from three free tenants held of the king in chief by service of a fifth part of a knight’s fee.
Southfalle. A messuage and 200a. arable, worth 20s. only because hilly and stony, 40a. pasture, a spinny containing 20a. land and waste and 12s. yearly rent from four tenants, held of the king in chief by service of half a knight’s fee.
Kuntebury and Inkepenne. A toft and 80a. arable, [3a. meadow], 7a. pasture and 1a. wood held of the master of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem in England in socage by service of 6d. yearly to the said master at his manor of Templeton.
Enedeborne. A messuage and two carucates of land held jointly with Emelina his wife, who still survives, of the gift of Thomas Paynel to them [for] their [lives], with remainder to the right heirs of Edmund. [The said tenements are held] of Margaret Saundervill [and the prior of Sandelford] by service of 8s. yearly.
Hungerford and Inkepenne. A messuage and 1 1/2 carucates of land, whereof the said Edmund and Emmeline were jointly enfeoffed, held of the duke of Lancaster by service of 15s. yearly at his manor of Hungerford.
He died on Thursday after St. Martin last. Richard de Polhampton, his son, aged 18 years, is his heir.

111. ROSE, LATE THE WIFE OF EDMUND DE PAKENHAM, knight.
Writ, 6 February, 27 Edward III.
CAMBRIDGE. Inq. taken at Newmarket, Tuesday the feast of St. Gregory, 27 Edward III.
Ditton Valoyns. The manor (extent given) held of the earl of Richemund by service of three knights’ fees and 37s. yearly. The extent includes 75a. of wood and two windmills in ruins.
She died on 14 December last. Thomas, son of the said Edmund, aged 22 years and more, is her heir.

KENT. Inq. taken at Shamele, Thursday after St. Ambrose, 27 Edward III.
Henherst. A third part of the manor held for her life by way of dower of Ralph, earl of Stafford, as of (?) his castle of Tonebregg (ad castrum suum de Tonebregge) by a fortieth part of a knight’s fee and by service of a sparrow-hawk every other year.
She died on 20 January last. Heir as above, aged 22 years.

NORFOLK. Inq. taken at Northcreyk, 12 February, 27 Edward III.
Northcreyk. A moiety of the manor (extent given) held of the heirs of Thomas de Brothertone, late earl of Norfolk and Marshal of England, as of the manor of Fornessete, by service of a quarter of a knight’s fee.
She died on 14 December, 26 Edward III. Heir as above.
SUFFOLK. Inq. taken at Ixworth, 1 February, 27 Edward III.
Walsham. The manor (extent given, including 10a. of wood) held of the king in chief by service of 16s. yearly to the ward of the castle of Norwich.
Norton. The manor (extent given) held for her life by way of dower as of the inheritance of Thomas, son and heir of Edmund de Pakenham, knight, her son, of the abbot of St. Edmund’s, by service of a suit at the said abbot’s hundred of Blakeburne.
Pakenham. The manor (extent given) held for her life, as of the inheritance of the said Thomas, of the same abbot by service of 3s. 9d. yearly.

112. THOMAS DE WYTTELBURY.
Writ, 2 July, 27 Edward III.
RUTLAND. Inq. taken at Wissenden, Thursday before St. Michael, 27 Edward III.
Wissenden. Two parts of a manor (extent given) late of John de Wittelbury, knight, the whole of which is held of the king in chief as of the honour of Huntyngdon as of the pourparty of Robert de Brus, in the king’s hand by his forfeiture. Decrease in value of the land from the time of the pestilence. Part of the meadow land is water-logged and often inundated, and, when worked by hand, all the hay therefrom is frequently carried away by the torrent of water. The extent includes two acres of meadow at Estmore, held of the prior of St. Andrew’s, York, by no service that is known; a pasture called ‘Perot Mersh’ held of John de Haryngton by service of 2d. yearly; two parts of a windmill worth nothing beyond the miller’s stipend; and rents of tenants, free, bond and cottars.
He held no other lands &c. in the county, because Katherine, late the wife of John de Wittelbury, knight, who survives, holds the third part of the said manor by way of dower.
He died on Wednesday after the Nativity of St. John the Baptist last. William, son of Aubrey (Albrici) de Wittelbury, a monk in the abbey of Peterborough, not professed, but in monkish habit within the year of probation, aged 21 years on the Ascension last, is brother and heir of the said Thomas; and, if the said William becomes a professed monk, then John, son of the said Aubrey and brother of the said Thomas and William, aged 20 years on the feast of St. Margaret last, will be his heir.

NORTHUMBERLAND. Inq. taken at Whityngeham, Sunday after St. Barnabas, 27 Edward III.
Brerden. The manor (extent given) held for life.
Hertlawe. A moiety of the town (extent given) held for his life.
All held of the king in chief by homage and fealty and by service of 40d. yearly for castleguard and 7d. yearly for cornage.
He held no other lands &c. in the county of the king.
Chevelyngham. The manor with the hamlet of Trikilton, which is a member of it (extent given), held for his life of Sir Henry de Percy by homage and fealty and by suit at his court of Alnewyk every three weeks.
Angrham. The manor (extent given) held for his life of Sir Gilbert de Umframvill, earl of Angus, by homage and fealty, by service of 15d. yearly for cornage and by suit at his court of Alwenton every three weeks.
He held no other lands &c. in the county.
He died on Wednesday before the Purification, 27 Edward III. The jurors are in no wise agreed as to his heir, but they say that the reversion of the manor of Brerden and of the moiety of the town of Hertlawe belongs, after the death of the said Thomas, to one Thomas de Heton; and the reversion of all the remaining manors &c. to one Alan de Heton by fines levied in the king’s court and by charters of feoffment shown to the jurors.

114. ROBERT DE LA VALE.
Writ, 4 September, 27 Edward III.
NORTHUMBERLAND. Inq. taken at Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Tuesday after Michaelmas, 27 Edward III (defective).
Seton la Vale. The manor (full extent given).
Northdissington. The manor (full extent given).
Hertlawe. A fourth part of the manor in demesne (full extent given) and a fourth part in service held by the prior of Brynkeburn of the said Robert by homage and fealty and by service of 20d. yearly to the ward of the king’s castle of Newcastle upon Tyne and of 3 1/2d. for cornage and by service of rendering to the said Robert and his heirs 3s. 4d. yearly at Whitsunday for a custom called ‘Colemale.’
All held of [the king in chief] by homage and fealty and suit at the county of Northumberland every six weeks and by service of a knight’s fee and a sixth part of a knight’s fee, and by rendering [16s.] yearly to the ward of the king’s castle of Newcastle upon Tyne and 2s. 8 3/4d. for cornage.
Haliwell. A messuage and 12a. land in the manor held of Mary de Sancto Paulo, countess of Pembroke, as belonging to her manor of Bywell, by fealty and suit at the court of Bywell every three weeks and by rendering 15d. yearly for cornage. Henry Lescrop, knight, held a moiety of the manor of Haliwell of the said Robert de la Vale by fealty and suit at his court of Seton la Vale every three weeks, and by service of 26s. 8d. yearly and of mowing every year for one day in autumn the corn at Seton la Vale with 51 labourers, and grinding the corn growing in the said moiety of Haliwell at the said Robert’s mill of Seton la Vale and Haliwell. The same Henry le Scrop holds of the aforesaid Robert in the other moiety of the manor 80a. of land by fealty, suit of the court of Seton la Vale as above and service of mowing for one day in autumn with seven labourers. Robert Vescy of Haliwell held of the said Robert a quarter of the said manor, except the aforesaid 80a. of land, by fealty and suit of the above court every three weeks and by service of 5s. yearly and of mowing one day in autumn with 19 labourers. William son of Roger de Haliwell, Roger son of Robert de Haliwell, William Vescy of Haliwell and William de Copoun and Isabel his wife held of the said Robert a quarter of the said manor, except the aforesaid messuage and 12a. land and 80a. land (sic) by fealty and suit of the above court every three weeks, and by service of 5s. yearly and of mowing as above with 23 labourers.
He held no other lands &c. in the county.
He died at Seton la Vale on 19 August last. Henry, son and heir of William de la Vale, knight, deceased, son of the said Robert, aged 10 1/2 years, is his heir.

115. LAURENCE DE LODELOWE or DE LUDELOWE, knight.
Writ, 18 October, 27 Edward III.
SALOP. Inq. taken at Stoke upon Tyrne, Thursday the eve of All Saints, 27 Edward III.
Hodenet. The manor (extent given, including a park) held of the king in chief as of the honour of Montgomery by service of being the king’s steward of Montgomery, which is in the king’s hand by the escheat of Roger de Bedlem, long since earl of Shrewsbury. The lord of Hodenet and his ancestors were accustomed to have the use of houses within the bailey of the said (sic) castle and other necessaries pertaining to the said stewardship, viz. in staying there with his wife, two squires, a chambermaid and a laundress (lotrice) within the said manor at the costs of the king; and he has also two robes yearly for himself and two robes for his wife, suitable for a knight and lady, and five grooms, five horses, four brachet hounds and two greyhounds altogether at the king’s charges.
Whulbache. A carucate of land and 10s. rent of a free tenant held jointly with Hawise his wife, who survives, of Fulk de Fytz Waryn by service of a twentieth part of a knight’s fee.
Westbury. 60s. yearly rent held jointly as above of Edmund de Cornubia by service of a sixth part of a knight’s fee.
Stoke Say. The manor (extent given, including a wood) held jointly as above of Reynold de Grey by service of 8d. yearly.
Roulton. Ten marks yearly rent held jointly as above of John Lestrange of Whytchyrch by service of 72s. yearly.
He died on 14 October last. John his son, aged 26 years at the feast of St. John before the Latin Gate last, is his heir.

HEREFORD AND THE ADJACENT MARCH OF WALES. Inq. taken in the castle of Hereford, Saturday after St. Peter’s Chains, 28 Edward III.
Much Marcle. A virgate of land, 16a. land and 60s. yearly rent from free tenants, held of the king in chief by service of a knight’s fee.
He died on 4 November, 27 Edward III. John his son, of full age, is his heir.

SURREY. Inq. taken at Suthwerk, 24 April, 27 Edward III.
Suthwerk. A messuage and six shops at ‘le Stuues’ held of the bishop of Winchester by service of 12s. 10d. yearly and doing suit at the said bishop’s court every three weeks. The said tenements are tumble down and stand empty, as no one will give anything for them.
He held no other lands &c. in the county.
He died on 1 April, as the jury understand. Elizabeth his daughter, married to John, son of John de Moubray of Axiholm, aged 16 years and more, is his heir.

BUCKINGHAM. Inq. taken at Bekenesfeld, Wednesday after St. Ambrose, 27 Edward III.
Penne. The manor and a carucate of land in Smethmore held jointly with Margaret his wife by virtue of a fine levied in the king’s court at Westminster on the octave of St. Michael, 18 Edward III. The said manor is held of Henry, duke of Lancaster, as of the honour of Leicester and the carucate of land is held of Sir Edward, prince of Wales, as of the honour of Walyngford, services not known.
He held no other lands &c. in the county.
He died on Tuesday after the Annunciation, 27 Edward III. Heir as above.

RUTLAND. Inq. taken at Burghle, Wednesday the feast of SS. Philip and James, 27 Edward III.
Alsthorp and Borughle. He held a plot and two virgates of land of his own inheritance, which almost a year before his death he gave to William, son of Ralph de Borughle, chaplain, for his life, with reversion to the right heirs of the said John. The premises are held of the heirs of Sir Thomas Wake of Lyddel by service of doing suit at his court of Brunne every three weeks. They likewise owe suit at the county of Rutland as often as it meets (de comitatu in comitatum) and likewise at the hundred of Alvestowe. Decrease in value of the land from the time of the pestilence.
He died at his manor of Bretteby, co. Derby, as the jury understand, on 1 April. Heir as above, aged 16 years.

RUTLAND. Inq. taken at Empyngham, 27 April, 26 (sic) Edward III.
He held no lands &c. at the time of his death, nor did he ever hold any tenements in the county, as the jury understand.

WORCESTER. Inq. taken at Ambresleye, 14 April, 27 Edward III.
North Pidele. He lately held the manor jointly with Margaret his wife, who survives, with the advowson of the church, of the gift of the abovesaid William, William and John, who enfeoffed the said John and Margaret of the same by fine levied in the king’s court, to hold to them and the heirs of their bodies, with remainder to the right heirs of the said John de Segrave. The said manor and advowson are held of Thomas de Bello Campo, earl of Warwick, by knight’s service. The said John demised the same to Thomas de Ferrariis for the said Thomas’s life only on the feast of the Purification last some time before his death.

Roslaston. The manor held, as above, of Isabella, queen of England, by knight’s service and a pair of gilt spurs or 6d. yearly.
Cotun. The manor held as above of the king in chief for a knight’s fee and by service of a white brachet hound yearly.
Repindon. A sixteenth part of the manor held as above of the earl of Chester by a sixteenth part of a knight’s fee and by knight’s service.

Stottesdon. A twentieth part of the manor held of the king in chief by knight’s service. The manor itself is held of the king in chief by service of a knight’s fee. He held no other lands &c. in the county in fee on the day he died; but he held the rest of the manor jointly with Margaret his wife, who survives as it is said, of the gift of William de Neuton, parson of the church of Segrave, William de Lughton, parson of the church of Wytherdeleye, and John de Repyndon, parson of the church of Overton, who enfeoffed the said John and Margaret thereof by fine levied in the king’s court, to hold to them and the heirs of their bodies, with remainder to the right heirs of John.
Kyngeswode in the chace of Wyre. The manor held jointly with his said wife, of the gift of the aforesaid William, William and John, who enfeoffed them as above, of Roger de Mortuo Mari by knight’s service.

YORK. Inq. taken at York, Wednesday before Whitsunday, 27 Edward III.
Tykhill, Wappele, Frithebek, Odesthorp, Lettewell, Langold, Thwayt, Gildanwell, Wallandwell, Wodesetes, Dynyngton and Stone. He held formerly a yearly rent of 14l. 10s. and no more on account of the late mortality, issuing from lands and tenants in the above places, in fee simple of lady Philippa, queen of England, as of the honour of Tikhill which is in her hand, by fealty and by service of a sore sparrowhawk yearly, price 2s.; and eight years and more before his death gave the said lands and rents to William de Neuton, parson of the church of Segrave, Robert, parson of the church of Keggeworth, William de Overton, parson of the church of Sylby, and John de Repyngdon, parson of the church of Overton, who immediately afterwards gave them to the said John de Segrave and Margaret his wife, who survives, and the heirs of their bodies, by fine levied in the king’s court.
Dynyngton. Certain tenements and rents called the manor of Dynyngton and tenements and rents in Anstan, Kyveton and Bramley, which are in the hands of divers tenants, rendering yearly 70s., held in fee simple of Sir Edmund de Langeley, the king’s son, as of the castle and manor of Conyngesburgh by fealty and by service of a pair of gilt spurs, price 6d., yearly. The said John, eight years before his death, gave the premises to William, Robert, William and John as above, who re-granted them as above. Afterwards the said John granted all the said manor &c. to a certain John Cailly of Dynyngton, on Tuesday after St. George, 26 Edward III, to hold for his life, at a yearly rent of 18l. for the first six years and for the next four years 20l., and after that 24l. during the life of the said John Cailly.
He held no other lands &c. in the county.
He died on Wednesday after Palm Sunday last, as the jury understand.

NORTHAMPTON. Inq. taken at Barton Segrave, 10 April, 27 Edward III.
Barton Segrave. The castle and manor (extent given) and 40a. wood in Boughton held jointly with Margaret his wife, who survives, of the grant of the abovenamed William, William and John by fine levied in 18 Edward III to John de Segrave and Margaret and the heirs of their bodies, with remainder to the right heirs of the said John. The said castle, manor and tenements are held of the heir of Sir Ralph de Wylyngton, knight, by knight’s service. The extent includes 180a. arable held of John de Brerele by knight’s service, two parts whereof render yearly to the said John Brerele 3s. 1 1/2d. and the third part lies fallow; also a water-mill in Boughton.
Chaucombe. The manor (extent given) held in demesne as of fee of the bishop of Lincoln by knight’s service.
He had no more lands &c. in the county nor any there of the inheritance of Margaret his wife.
He died on Tuesday in Easter week, viz. on 26 March last. Elizabeth his daughter, wife of John son of Sir John Moubray, knight, aged 16 years and more, is his heir.

Kyngton. The manor (extent given) held of the king in chief at fee farm, viz. by service of rendering 12l. yearly at the Exchequer by the hands of the sheriff of Warwick.
Calwedon. The manor (extent given, including a park) held of lady Isabella, queen of England, by service of a quarter of a knight’s fee.
He held no other lands &c. in the county in his demesne as of fee or in service.
Alspathe, Flekkenho and Thurleston. The manors held jointly with Margaret his wife, who survives, of the gift of the aforesaid William, William and John, who enfeoffed the said John de Segrave and Margaret of the said manors by fine levied in the king’s court, to hold to them and the heirs of their bodies, with remainder to the right heirs of the said John.
The manor of Aspeleye, co. Warwick, which the said John and Margaret lately held jointly by the aforesaid fine, is now in the hand of Gilbert Chausteleyne, and was so long before the death of the said John, by what title the jury know not. The manors of Alspathe, Flekkenho and Thurlaston are held of the earl of Warwick and the countess of Clare by divers services.
There are no lands &c. in the county of the inheritance of the said Margaret.

Gosecote. The bailiwick of the hundred held jointly with Margaret his wife, who still survives, of the king in chief at fee farm, viz. by service of rendering yearly 100s. at the Exchequer by the hands of the sheriff of Leicester by a fine levied in the king’s court, of the gift of William de Neuton, parson of the church of Segrave, William de Lughton, parson of the church of Wytherdeleye, and John de Repyndon, parson of the church of Overton, who enfeoffed the said John and Margaret of the said hundred, to hold to them and the heirs of their bodies, with remainder to the right heirs of John.
Segrave, Sylby, Mounsorell, Dalby Chacombe and Overton. The manors and 30 messuages, 30 virgates of land and 100s. rent in Cotes, Thirneby, Smethesby, Wymundeswold, Houby, Thorp Sechevill, Twyford, Thurmaston, Thorp Busard and Meelton and the advowsons of the churches of Segrave, Sylby and Kegworth, held jointly as above, of the gift of the said William, William and John, who enfeoffed the aforesaid John and Margaret as above. The said manors, messuages, land, rent and advowsons are held of Edward, prince of Wales, the duke of Lancaster, the abbot of Leicester, John de Moubray and the lady of Roos and divers other lords, not of the king, services not specified.
He held no lands &c. in the county of the inheritance of Margaret his wife.
He lately held certain lands &c. in Wheston, co. Leicester, jointly with the said Margaret, by virtue of the said fine, but those he demised long before his death to Ralph de Ferrariis for the said Ralph’s life; and others in Wytherdeleye, which he demised in like manner to Robert de Kegworth for the said Robert’s life.
On what day he died at Bretteby the jury know not. Heir as in preceding.

He held in demesne as in fee:—
Meelton. A messuage, a bovate of land and 7s. rent held of John de Moubray by service of 2s. yearly.
Oleby by Meelton. The hamlet held of the said John de Moubray by knight’s service.
He held no other lands &c. in the county so far as the jury can ascertain.

WILTS. Inq. taken at Tyssebury, Saturday the eve of Palm Sunday, 28 Edward III.
Westhacch. He held formerly a messuage and two carucates of land of the abbess of Shaftesbury, rendering 6l. yearly, which on Saturday the feast of St. Michael, 26 Edward III, he granted to Richard de Kyrkeby, parson of the church of Berewyk St. John, for life, rendering at his manor of Caloudon in the first year at the Nativity of St. John the Baptist one rose and doing the accustomed services to the chief lords of the fee; for the next nine years 100s. yearly at Easter, and doing the said services; and for the next ten years 10 marks yearly at Easter and doing the said services; and, after the said twenty years, 20l. yearly, Richard repairing the house at his own costs.
He died on Tuesday in Easter week, 27 Edward III. Elizabeth his daughter, aged 16 years, is his heir.
Writ to John Everard, escheator in co. Wilts, directing him to send into the Chancery the foregoing inquisition under penalty of 20l. 20 April, 29 Edward III.

Kyngeswod within the chace of Wyre. A messuage, 40a. land, a small park, and 400a. wood within the chace, which were the aforesaid (sic) John de Segrave’s, who three years before his death demised them to Roger de Foxcote for life to the value (in valorem) of 33s. 4d. yearly for keeping the wood, messuage and park; the pasture of the wood is common within Roger de Mortuo Mari’s chace of Wyre. The said John held no other lands &c. in co. Salop. The twentieth part of the manor of Stottesdon cannot be extended because John, son of John de Moubray and Elizabeth his wife, had seisin thereof by the king’s writ as of Elizabeth’s inheritance, after the death of John de Segrave, her father.
SALOP. Inq. made at Stottesdon, Monday the eve of St. George, 27 Edward III.
Stottesdon. The manor held jointly with Margaret his wife, who survives, except a twentieth part thereof, of the king in chief by knight service, of the gift of William, William, and John as above. The extent includes a chief messuage worth nothing, the buildings being in ruins, 2 carucates of poor and sandy land, 10a. meadow, and a wood.
He died on the morrow of the Annunciation last. The daughter of the said John and Margaret, whom John son of John de Moubray married, aged 16, is their heir.

Great Chesterford. The manor held of the inheritance of Margaret his wife who survives, of the king in chief by knight service. The extent includes 145a. arable, 12 1/2a. meadow, divers minute parcels of pasture, a fallow (friscus) field called ‘Cateleye’ of 60a. pasture, so dry that scarcely any pasture grows thereon, a park of 200a. wood and lawn (landar’), with 10a. from which underwood called Brussh can be cut; and rents and curious works specified. Rents resolute from the manor are—to the prioress of Thetford 40s. and to the prioress of Ikelynton 13s. 4d.

SALOP AND THE ADJACENT MARCH OF WALES. Inq. taken at la Pole, Friday after the Circumcision, 27 Edward III.
Pontesbury. The manor (extent given, including a wood) held of the king in chief by service of a fortieth part of a knight’s fee.
Chorleton. Certain lands &c. (extent given) held for life by fine levied in the king’s court of the abbot of Salop by service of 6s. 8d. yearly.
MARCH OF WALES. La Pole. The castle and manor and the manors of Boteton, Talgarth, Mathrawel and Wallewern and the commotes of Suthstradmarghel, Suthlannerchudol, Kereignon, Keveylloc, Megheinughcoid, Meghein Iscoid, Trefwern, Teirtref, Moghenant and a moiety of the cantred of Arwistly (extents given) held of the king in chief by barony. The extent of the manor of la Pole includes certain granges annexed to the castle, a watermill, a pond with fishery, a park, and a borough where there are yearly fairs on the feasts of the Assumption and St. Leonard and a weekly market on Monday, and 10l. yearly rent of burgesses. Boteton and all the above places, except Talgarth, are members of la Pole. The pasture of the wood at Mathrawel cannot be extended because, since the pestilence, no one will buy it; and the chace at Wallewern cannot be extended for the same reason.
He died on Saturday the feast of St. Thomas the Apostle last. John de Cherleton, his son, aged 37 years at Michaelmas last, is his heir.
