	Neent[on]. The manor, with the advowson of the church, held for life by the deceased jointly with Joan, his wife, who survives, to them and the heirs of the deceased, of the earl of March, as of the honor of Wigmore, by service of providing a hobeler for the keeping of the castle of Wigmore when there is war in Wales. Lynleye. A third part of the manor, held in right of Joan his wife, who survives, of the prior of Wenlok, service not known. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on Monday after St. Nicholas last. John his son, aged 7 years, is his heir.

	Spenhamlonde. 6l. 2s. 3 1/2d. rent and pleas &c. of court worth 12d. yearly, held for life of the heir of Matthew son of Herbert by knight’s service. He held the premises by demise of Hugh le Despenser of the inheritance of Edward le Despenser, knight. He died on 25 August, 35 Edward III. Heir not known; but the reversion of the premises belongs to Edward le Despenser, knight, who survives, son and heir of Edward le Despenser brother and heir of the aforesaid Hugh.

SOMERSET.	Inq. (indented) taken at Somerton, Monday the feast of St. Valentine, 36 Edward III.
	Lymyngton. The manor, held jointly with John Dabernon, Henry Percehay, John Boys and Thomas Aumarle, who survive, to them and their heirs and assigns, of the heir of John de Beauchamp of Somerset, a minor in the king’s wardship, by [service of] a moiety of a knight’s fee. He died on Monday after St. Nicholas last. William his son, aged 12 years and more, is his heir.

	Wodebery. Two parts of the manor (extent given), held of the king in chief by knight’s service for two parts of a knight’s fee. He held no other lands &c. in the escheator’s bailiwick. He died on Monday after St. Martin last. William de Aumarl his son, aged 12 1/2 years, is his heir.

Margaret de Alba Marlia and Elizabeth de Alba Marlia, his sisters, aged respectively 19 years and more and 17 1/4 years, are his heirs.

274.	THOMAS ACHARD.
	Writ to the escheator in co. Gloucester and the march of Wales thereto belonging to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said Thomas Achard, and who has been in possession of his lands since his death. 24 June, 36 Edward III.
MARCH OF WALES [now MONMOUTH].	Inq. taken at Chapstowe, Monday before St. Margaret, 36 Edward III.
	Reodwyk. A third part of a messuage, a third part of a carucate of land, 8a. several pasture, and 11s. 4d. rent, held of the king in chief by knight’s service, as of his pourparty of the lands late of John de Knovill according to the partition made between him, William de Luscote and Alice, late his wife, now deceased, sister and heir of Michael son of Amy one of the daughters and heirs of the said John de Knovill (the said Michael having died while a minor in the king’s wardship), and John Duyn, son and heir of Eleanor the third of the daughters and heirs of the said John de Knovill. He held no other lands &c., in the said county or march. He died on the last day of June, 34 Edward III. Joan, daughter of the aforesaid William de Luscote and Alice, aged 7 years and more, and the aforesaid John Duyn, aged 24 years and more, are his heirs. Eleanor, his wife, has been in possession of the premises since his death, pretending (prodestando) that he is still alive.

275.	JOHN AMYS of Heverynglond.
	Writ, 4 October, 36 Edward III.
LONDON.	Inq. taken Wednesday after St. Luke, 36 Edward III.
	The said John died on the feast of St. Mark, 14 Edward III., seised of:— Parish of St. Michael Paternostercherche. 40s. yearly quit-rent from tenements in the street of La Riole late of John Hardell, which rent the deceased bequeathed in his testament to be sold by his executors. His executors having died before the sale was made, William, the deceased’s son and heir, entered and died seised of the said rent; and after his death Sarah, his sister and heir, entered and died seised without heir, so far as the jurors can ascertain. A tenement in the same street, with houses, shops, cellars and solars built thereon, which the deceased bequeathed to William his son and the heirs of his body, and, failing such heirs, to be sold by his executors. William died without such heir, and the executors died without having made the sale, and Sarah, as sister and heir of William, entered and died seised, without heir and a minor. The said rent and tenements are held of the king in free burgage, as is the whole city of London. Date of death of Sarah not known.

	Writ of plenius certiorari, 29 March, 36 Edward III.
KENT.	Inq. taken at Lesnes, 10 October, 36 Edward III.
	Lesnes. A tenement called ‘Hornes,’ held for life, of the inheritance of John son of John Malwayn, a minor in the king’s wardship, of the abbot of Lesnes, service not known; a messuage called ‘Bokelers,’ held for life of the same inheritance and of the same abbot, service not known; and 25a. land lying in Polthorn and at le Wall and in Bokelersfeld by divers parcels, held for life of the same inheritance and of the same abbot by service of 8s. 8d. yearly in gavelkind, and by suit of court every three weeks. John Malwayn, deceased, acquired from the said Peter [the reversion of] the premises in fee after his (Peter’s) death. 4 1/2a. 1r. land, held jointly with Agnes his wife, who survives, by gift of John Stonore and others, 2a. of which are held of John Malwayn, service not known, and the other 2 1/2a. 1r. of the abbot of Lesnes, service not known. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on 12 June, 36 Edward III. The heirs of his blood are not known. Agnes, his wife, and John de Tye, the escheator, have received the issues of the premises since his death, and have to answer for them to the king, by reason of the minority of the heir of John Malwayn, a minor in the king’s wardship.

CUMBERLAND.	Inq. taken at …, Saturday next before … 36 Edward III (defaced).
	Gamelesby and Wyganby. 2 messuages, 80a. of land, 2a. meadow, 9s. rent and a moiety of a mill, whereof he and Mariota his wife, who survives, were jointly enfeoffed by William [Kiti]sson and Christiana his wife, by a fine levied in the king’s court, to them and the heirs of their bodies, with remainder to the right heirs of Thomas. The premises are held of the king in chief by homage and service of 5s. 2 3/4d. yearly for cornage. There are tenants at will rendering 30s. yearly. Carlisle. 30a. land in Petrelholmes in the suburb of Carlisle, with waste adjoining, held jointly as above by feoffment of Adam Parvyng with the king’s licence. The land is held of the king in chief by homage, and is in the hands of tenants at will rendering 20s. yearly. Cargowe and Studholm. A fourth part of the town, held by the deceased and Mariota as of the right and inheritance of Mariota. The land of Cargowe is held of Brian de Stapilton, as of the manor of Bampton, by service of rendering 12d. yearly for cornage; and the land of Studholm is held of …… Castelkayrok by service of rendering 3s. 4d. yearly. There are tenants paying 26s. 8d. yearly. Carlisle. 48a. land in Galghberghfeld, 6a. [land on Elmhull, 9]a. land in Petrelbuttes, a pasture by Petrell, a pasture below the bridge of Petrell, ………, and the pasture of le Grengates, held by the deceased and Mariota, of the demesne lands of the castle of Carlisle, as appears by the king’s charter, by service of rendering 10 marks yearly and 6s. 8d. increment. Carlisle. 28a. land on Elnehull ….., 4a. land held by Peter Bouchre, 5a. held by John de Capella, …………….., 10 1/2 a. held by Alan le Fourbour, 2a. held by Henry de Ponte, [the pasture of] Leghs by Swyft, a pasture in the willows by Swyft, and the pasture del Leyrpottes, held by the deceased and Mariota of the king’s demesnes, as appears by another charter of the king, by service of rendering yearly 11 marks 4s. 10d. and 20s. increment. He held no other lands &c. in the county. Mariota, his wife, survives, to whom the premises belong for life. The son of the said Thomas and Mariota (a minor), is their heir.

A messuage, 10a. arable and 2a. meadow, held of Emery de Sancto Amando by service of 2s. and suit of court. Northwydyhull. 10a. land and 2a. meadow, held of the lord of Berton by service of 4s. yearly. Puryton. A messuage, 9a. land and 1/2a. meadow, held of John de Keynes by service of 1d. yearly and suit of court. The reversion of these belongs to Sampson Horput by a charter lately made thereof, because the said Katharine died without heir of her body. She held no other lands &c. in the county. She died on 8 April last. Richard Burdon, aged 30 years and more, son of Joan Burdon sister of Juliana Aylmer mother of the said Katharine, Isabel Thursteyn, aged 40 years and more, the second sister of the said Juliana, married to Walter Thursteyn, and Isabel, aged 1 1/2 years and more, daughter of Edith Grondewell the third of the sisters of the said Juliana, are her heirs.

279.	JOHN DE ABYNDON.
	Writ to the escheator to enquire what lands &c. came into the king’s hand by reason of the minority of the said John, son and heir of Idonia late the wife of Simon de Benyngton, deceased, tenant in chief, who has died a minor in the king’s wardship. 12 January, 36 Edward III.
KENT.	Inq. (indented) taken at Derteford, 30 January, 37 Edward III.
	Plumstede. A moiety of certain lands &c. late of Nicholas de Mockyng, deceased, brother of the said Idonia, viz. a moiety of a messuage, 80a. arable and 2 1/2a. wood, held of the abbot of St. Augustine’s, Canterbury, as of his manor of Plumstede, by service of rendering yearly to the said abbot at the said manor 13s. 4d., to Nicholas de Burnhull at his manor of Wykham 15d., and to the heirs of John de Borstall 9d. No other lands in the lathe of Sutton came into the king’s hand by reason of his minority. He died on 4 January last at the end of 36 Edward III. Margaret de Mockyng his aunt (amita), aged 25 years and more, married to Roger de Shipbrok, is his heir.
KENT.	Inq. (indented) taken at Middiltone, 28 January, 37 Edward III.
	Elmele. A moiety of the marsh so called, held of the king in chief as parcel of the manor of Milstede, which manor is held of the king in chief by service of a knight’s fee. The whole marsh is held of the king in chief by service of an eighth part of a knight’s fee. Bordenne, Bradegare and Newentone. Tenements worth 6l. 13s. 4d. yearly, held of divers lords, service not known. No other lands &c. came into the king’s hand by reason of the heir aforesaid. Date of death as above. Heir as above, aged 24 years and more. A third part of the above premises was assigned in dower to, and is held by, Margery late the wife of Nicholas de Mokkynge, whom Helming Legat has now married.
SURREY.	Inq. (indented) taken at Southwerk, 24 January, 36 Edward III.
	Southwerk. A messuage which William de Malton holds at farm, held of the prior of St. Mary’s, Southwerk, by service of 5 marks yearly. A shop which William Chandeler holds at farm, held of the same prior by service of a rose at Midsummer and 34s. yearly. 2 shops which Thomas Squiler holds at farm, held of the earl of Arundel, service not known, and by rendering 12s. yearly. 2 shops with solars, held of the prior of St. Mary’s, Southwerk, service not known. They are of no value, being ruinous, roofless and unoccupied. 4 shops with a garden adjoining, held of the archbishop of Canterbury by service of rendering 2s. yearly. They are of no value because ruinous and unoccupied. No other lands &c. in Southwerk came into the king’s hand by reason of the minority of the said heir. Date of death as above. Heir as above, aged 28 years and more. A third part of the premises is held in dower by Margery late the wife of Nicholas Mokkyng, whom Helming Legeth has lately married with the king’s licence.
MIDDLESEX.	Inq. (indented) taken at Totenham, 31 January, 37 Edward III.
	Totenham. A third part of a third part of a third part of the manor (extent given, including 10a. arable worth 3s. 4d. as pasture for beasts because this year it cannot be sown on account of inundation), held of the king in chief, as of the honor of Huntyngdon, which is in the king’s hand, by service of an eighteenth part of a knight’s fee, as appears by the king’s charter thereof shewn to the jurors. Totenham. A messuage, a dovecot, 180a. land, 37a. meadow, 20a. pasture, 20a. wood and 40s. rent of free tenants, held of the heir of the earl of [Pembroke], a minor in the king’s wardship, by service of rendering 24s. yearly and doing suit to the earl’s court of Totenham every three weeks. Edelmeton. 8a. land, held of William de Saye, knight, by service of rendering … yearly and doing suit to the said William’s court of Edelmeton every three weeks. A third part of the premises is held in dower, as above. Date of death as above. Heir as above, aged 26 years and more.

	By reason of the minority of the deceased divers lands and tenements are in the hand of Helming Legat by the king’s writ annexed hereto, viz.:— A tavern inhabited by William de Cherchegate, worth 14l. 6s. 8d. yearly, less quit-rents of 20s. to the prioress of St. Helen and 76s. 10d. to the abbot of Westminster. A great tenement in Briggestret, worth 5l. 6s. 8d. yearly, less quit-rents of 5s. 10d. to John de Chichestre, 15s. to the prior of the church of St. Mary Overy, and 50s. to Helming Legat in part payment of the dower of his wife, formerly wife of Nicholas Mockyngg. A tenement in Poddynglane held by John Wroth. A tenement in the churchyard of St. Margaret, Briggestret. A tenement held by John Webbe in the same place. A tenement in Poddynglane held by John Horn. A bakehouse held by Richard Bakere in St. Botolph’s lane, worth 100s. yearly, less a quit-rent of 6s. 8d. to the prioress of St. Mary’s, Clerkenewell. A tenement in the same lane held by Robert Stilligo. 20s. quit-rent from a tenement of Andrew Pykeman in St. Botolph’s lane. 10s. quit-rent from a tenement of John Wode in Martelane. 2 tenements in Martelane held by Roger Brewere and William de Eboraco. All the above are held of the king in chief in free burgage, as is the whole city. Date of death as above. Margaret wife of Roger Shipbrok, aged 30 years, is his heir.
	(Annexed:) Writ to the mayor of London to deliver to Helming Leget, the king’s yeoman, to whom the king has committed the custody of all the lands &c. late of Idonia Mockyngge, deceased, in the city of London and in Surrey and Middlesex and the town of Plumstede, co. Kent, all such lands &c. in the city and suburbs with the issues and profits thereof from Michaelmas last. 25 November, 36 Edward III.

280.	STEPHEN DE BAROWE, or BARWE.

SOMERSET.	Inq. (indented) taken at Cary, 3 August, 36 Edward III.
	North Barwe. A messuage, a garden and orchard, 60a. arable in a hilly place, 10a. meadow several from the Purification until the hay is carried, and after that common, 2 closes containing 5a. pasture, and an agistment of 8 horses pasturing there with the lord’s horses from hockday until the gule of August, held in fee tail to him and the heirs of his body of the heir of Nicholas de Seymor, a minor in the king’s wardship, by knight’s service. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on 10 November last. Thomas son of John de Barwe his son, aged three-quarters of a year and more, is his heir.

281.	ALICE LATE THE WIFE OF VALENTINE BEKKE, or BECKE, knight.
	Writ, 26 January, 36 Edward III.
SOUTHAMPTON.	Inq. made at Southwyk, 2 May, 36 Edward III.
	Bromden. The manor (extent given), held for life in joint feoffment with Valentine, her late husband, of the king in chief by service of keeping the gaol of all the prisoners in the county in the prison of Winchester. She died in February, 33 Edward III. Heir not known.
	Writ to the escheator to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said Alice, and who has been in possession of her lands since her death and received the issues. Wyndesore, 24 December, 36 Edward III.
SOUTHAMPTON.	Inq. made at Suthampton, 11 March, 37 Edward III.
	Bromden. The manor called ‘Wodecote’ (extent given), held for life as above of the inheritance of William Becke, parson of the church of Colmere, brother and heir of her late husband, who survives and is aged 40 years and more. She died on 24 September, 35 Edward III. The king, by the escheator, has been in possession since her death. The reversion belongs to the aforesaid William Becke by her death.

282.	ROGER BIGOT, or BYGOT, knight.

NORFOLK.	Inq. taken at Lodene, 21 November, 36 Edward III.
	Geldiston. The advowson of the church, held of the king in chief in free socage, service not known. He died on Easter day last. John his son, aged 30 years and more, is his heir.
	Writ, 21 April, 36 Edward III.
YORK.	Inq. taken at Seteryngton, Thursday after the Invention of the Holy Cross, 36 Edward III.
	Seteryngton. The manor (extent given), held to him and the heirs of his body of the king in chief, as of the crown, by service of a knight’s fee and by service of rendering to the fines of the wapentake of Buccros 12s. at the Purification for the whole year. The extent includes meadow in places called ‘le Cliff,’ ‘Frithker’ and ‘Derewentenges,’ a several pasture called ‘le Wald,’ free tenants in Scakelthorp holding of the aforesaid manor by knight’s service 6 carucates of land, of which 28 make a knight’s fee, and free tenants in Menyngthorp holding of the aforesaid manor by knight’s service 4 carucates of land, of which 17 make a knight’s fee. The said 10 carucates, which are in service, pay nothing to the lord of the manor. Westou. Thomas de Roos holds the manor freely of the said manor of Seteryngton by fealty and service of 30s. yearly. Seteryngton. The advowson of the church. He held no other lands, fees or advowsons in the county or elsewhere, as the jurors understand. He died on Easter day last. John Bygot, knight, his son, aged 28 years and more, is his heir.

GLOUCESTER.	Inq. taken at Aure, 12 April, 36 Edward III.
	Aure. A messuage, 44a. arable, 6a. meadow and a fishery, the weirs of which have been destroyed by the ebb and flow of the sea and by inundations, held of the king in chief in socage by service of paying 13s. 4d. yearly at the Exchequer by the hands of the sheriff. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on Monday after St. Denis last. Maud and Joan his daughters, aged respectively 10 years and 8 years and 6 months, are his heirs.

SOUTHAMPTON.	Inq. made at Suthampton, 7 July, 36 Edward III.
	Rombrigg. 30s. rent of free tenants, held of the king in chief by service of 8s. 4d. for a hundred barbed arrows by the name of a petty serjeanty, payable at Michaelmas. The deceased was seised of a view of frankpledge of all his tenants aforesaid, as were all his ancestors time out of mind, until some while before his death he was disseised by Walter Park, deputy (locum tenentem) of the steward of the New Forest. Romeseye. A messuage, held of the abbess of Romeseye by service of 2s. yearly. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on 22 August last. Christina his daughter, aged 2 years and more, is his heir.

GLOUCESTER.	Inq. taken at Tettebury, Wednesday the feast of St. Aldelm (25 May), 36 Edward III.
	Lasseberwe. The manor, held of the king by fealty, as of the lordship of Somerforde Keynes which is in the king’s land. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on Thursday after Epiphany last. Margaret and Alice his daughters, aged 2 years and 1 year respectively, are his heirs.

	Writ to the escheator to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said John, and who has been in possession of his lands since his death and received the issues. 3 October, 36 Edward III.
ESSEX.	Inq. taken at Rocheford, Saturday before All Saints, 36 Edward III.
	Great Stanbrugge. Two parts of the manor, held of Philippa queen of England, as of the honor of Reilegh, by knight’s service. He died about the feast of St. Margaret, 32 Edward III. John his son, aged 7 years and more, is his heir. William de Bohun, late earl of Northampton, then having the honor of Reilegh at farm for a term of years not yet expired from the lady Philippa, queen of England, seized and took into his hand the aforesaid two parts by reason of the minority of the said heir, and had possession from the time of the death of the said deceased until Wednesday after the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, 34 Edward III, when he died. William de Hinton, bailiff of the honor, seized the two parts into the king’s hand immediately after the death of the earl, and accounts for the issues at the Exchequer, as the jurors understand.

He died on Sunday before Christmas, 35 Edward III. Peter de Beltoft his brother, aged 30 years and more, is his heir.

	Azerlagh. The manor called ‘Azerlagh’ (extent given), held of the king in chief by homage and fealty and by service of a twentieth part of a knight’s fee. The extent includes a chief messuage in ruins, 80a. land waste for many years and worth nothing because of the abundance of pasture in those parts, and a several pasture called ‘Hubergh.’ He held no other lands in the county or elsewhere in the escheator’s bailiwick. He died on 18 December last. Heir as above, aged 40 years and more.

	Grymesbery. A toft, a carucate of land, 10a. meadow and 6 marks rent, held of the king in chief, as of the crown, by service of rendering 5s. yearly at the Exchequer by the hands of the sheriff and doing suit every three weeks to the king’s hundred of Sutton, which hundred Robert de Holond holds of the king in fee at a yearly fee-farm; and also by service of making and repairing as often as necessary a perch, 16 feet in length, of the wall round the king’s park of Multon Park by Northampton at his own costs. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on 14 February last. Emery (Almaricus) le Botiler, clerk, his brother, aged 40 years and more at Christmas last, is his heir.

	Writ to the escheator to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said Ralph, and who has been in possession of his lands since his death and received the issues. 15 November, 36 Edward III.
LINCOLN.	Inq. taken at Horncastre, Saturday after the Epiphany, 36 Edward III.
	Holtham, Wilkesby, and Conyngesby by Tateshale. 30a. land, 7a. meadow and 2a. wood, held of the king in chief by knight’s service. The land is poor and sandy, and the meadow is flooded in ordinary seasons. The wood, after it came into the king’s hands by the death of Ralph le Botiller of Northbury and was in the king’s hand by reason of the minority of the aforesaid Ralph son of John, kinsman and heir of Ralph aforesaid, was cut down by the escheator, and the new shoots growing afterwards were destroyed through lack of enclosure. The said Ralph son of John died about the feast of St. Matthew, 22 Edward III. Edward le Boteler his brother, aged 21 years and more, is his heir. The king by his escheators has been in possession of the premises since Ralph’s death.

YORK.	Inq. taken at Wakefeld, Monday the feast of the Decollation of St. John, 36 Edward III.
	Stanlay. A plot of land and meadow called ‘le Bothom’ containing 40a., in the hands of tenants at will rendering 40s. yearly, and 10s. rent of tenants at will. Wakefeld. 34s. 2d. rent of free tenants, and a vacant plot in Northgate and a waste toft which used to render 15s. 10d. yearly, but now nothing. All the above are held of the king in chief, as of the crown, by knight’s service, for what portion of a fee not known, as parcel of the manor of Wakefeld. Havercroft. The manor called ‘Havercrofthall,’ in the hands of tenants at will rendering 6l. 13s. 4d. yearly, held by the deceased jointly with Isolda his wife, who survives, of the earl of Lancaster, as of the honor of Pontefract, by knight’s service. He held no other lands &c. in the county or elsewhere in the escheator’s bailiwick. He died on Monday after St. Edmund the King last, viz. 35 Edward III. Walter his son, aged 22 years and more at the time of the death of the deceased, is his heir.

	Merlreth and Meldebourne. Lands &c. worth 20 marks yearly, held of the prior of Warr’, John de Archentem, Thomas Deschalers and John de Sancto Clavo, came into the king’s hand after the death of John de Brumpton and George aforesaid because the lands and fees of the prior of War’ were in the king’s hands. Wendeye. Lands &c. worth 8 marks yearly, held of the earl of Rychimund, service not known, likewise. Crowden. Lands &c. worth 40s. yearly, held of the prior of the hospital of St. John of Jerusalem, likewise. John died on 12 May, 16 Edward III, and George on Sunday before St. Mary Magdalene, 35 Edward III. Alice, sister of George, aged 30 years, is his heir. Walter de Mauny was in possession of the premises for 12 years, and the aforesaid George for 8 years.

He held no other lands &c. in the county of Hereford or in the March aforesaid. He died on 10 January last. Laurence de Bromhull his brother, aged 16 years, is his heir.
