NORFOLK.	Inq. taken at Harliston, Saturday before the Conversion of St. Paul, 40 Edward III.
	Redinhale. Two-thirds of the manor, held of the king in chief by service of rendering 40d. yearly at the king’s castle of Norwich for ward. The said two-thirds are let at farm for 10l. a year. He died about Michaelmas, 37 Edward III. Etheldreda, his sister, aged 7 years and more, is his heir.

LINCOLN.	Inq. taken at Glaunfordbrigg, Wednesday after Michaelmas, 40 Edward III.
	Redburn. A messuage in ruins, 2 carucates of land, of which 60a. can be sown yearly, 16a. meadow and 2s. rent and 3/4lb. pepper, held of the king in chief as parcel of a barony. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on 4 June, 40 Edward III. Roger his son, aged 3 years, is his heir.

NORFOLK.	Inq. (indented) taken at Bunggey, Saturday after the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, 40 Edward III.
	Sculthorp. A third part of the manor, held for life by way of dower, of the inheritance of John son of Walter de Norwico, by endowment of the aforesaid John de Norwico, formerly her husband. The manor is held of the king in chief, service not known. She died on Monday after St. Barnabas last. John son of Walter son of the aforesaid John and Margery, aged 14 years at the feast of St. Luke last, is heir of the same John and Margery.
SUFFOLK.	Inq. taken at Metyngham, Friday after the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, 40 Edward III.
	Ilketleshale. The manor (extent given), held jointly with John her husband by gift of William de Bergh to them for their lives, with remainder to Walter son of the said John and the heirs male of his body, by a fine levied in the king’s court. The manor is held of William Trussel, service not known. Schepmedwe. The manor (extent given), and 3 carucates of land in Metyngham, Schepmedwe, Ilketlishale, Barsham and Bekkles, held jointly as above, by gift of Henry de Harnhull to the said John and Margery for their lives, with remainder to Walter their son and the heirs male of his body. Walter died five years ago. The manor is held of William Trussel, service not known. One carucate of the three, in Metyngham, on 30a. of which is a castle newly built, is held of John de Lynne, clerk, by service of 12d. yearly. The other two carucates are held of William Ufford, knight, by service of a fourth part of a knight’s fee. Melles. The manor, held of Edmund de Thorp, knight, service not known. Brounfeld. A moiety of the manor, held of the heirs of John de Nerford together with the other moiety, service not known. She held the said manor and moiety jointly as above, to her and the said John and the heirs of their bodies. Brounfeld. The said John and Margery acquired jointly a fourth part of the manor from Henry de Harnhull, knight, to hold to them and the heirs of John, by a fine levied in the king’s court; and afterwards the said John, long before his death, enfeoffed Miles de Stapilton, Thomas …., knight, William de Bregh (sic), parson of the church of Cantele, Ellis de Bentre, parson of the church of Dalham, and Hervey de Welham, parson of the church of Dalanghoo, thereof. Senaston (sic). 40a. land, 2a. meadow and an old mill, held jointly with John her husband, to them and the heirs of John, of Thomas Ufford, knight, service not known. Ilketlishale, Metyngham, Specceshale and South Helmam. A messuage and 40a. land formerly belonging to George atte Fen, held jointly, as last above, of William Trussel, service not known. Ilketlishale. The manor, formerly belonging to Emery de Welyngton, held of William de Ufford and the abbot of St. Edmund’s, service not known. Redesham Parva. The manor, formerly belonging to Oliver Stratton, knight, held of the abbot of St. Edmund’s, service not known. The above two manors she held jointly with John her husband, and with Hervey de Welham, parson of the church of Dalanghoo, who survives, to them and the heirs of John. Ilketlishale, Metyngham, Bungeye and Schipmedwe. A messuage, 60a. land and 1a. meadow, held jointly, as last above, of William Trussel, service not known. Date of death and heir as above.

73.	ROBERT DE OGLE.
	Writ of plenius certiorari to the escheator in Cumberland as to lands &c. held by the said Robert of the king in chief other than those returned in the inquisitions taken after his death, and also as to the manor of Thoresby, formerly belonging to him and lately held for life by Richard de Denton, deceased, by his grant, whether it ought to belong to the heir of the same Robert, or to Thomas de Ogle, who asserts that he has a right therein, and why &c. 12 July, 40 Edward III.
CUMBERLAND.	Inq. taken at Carlisle, Saturday before St. Laurence, 40 Edward III.
	Storthwaytrigges. Richard de Denton held for life tenements so called, with reversion after his death to Robert de Ogle and his heirs. The said Robert died seised of the same reversion. The tenements are held of the king by fealty and by service of rendering 15s. yearly at the Exchequer of Carlisle at the feast of the Assumption. Thoresby. The same Richard held for life the manor of Thoresby, with a plot called Estkirk[eth]wayt parcel thereof, by grant of the said Robert, with reversion as above. It is held of Ranulf de Dacre by service of 8s. yearly for cornage. Robert died seised of the reversion. The above reversions belong to Robert son of Robert de Ogle, a minor in the king’s wardship, and not to Thomas de Ogle; but the latter was in possession of the premises from the time of the death of Richard de Denton, who survived Robert, for a year and a half, claiming the reversions by grant of Robert, until the escheator delivered them by the king’s writ to John Phylipot and Joan his wife. Robert did not in his lifetime divest himself of the said reversions, and Richard did not attorn for the premises to Thomas in the lifetime of Robert. Robert son of Robert son of Robert de Ogle is heir of Robert.

YORK.	Inq. taken at Kyngeston upon Hull, Monday the feast of St. Bartholomew, 40 Edward III.
	He held no lands &c. of the king in chief in fee simple. Myton. The manor (extent given), held jointly with Katharine, his wife, who survives, of the king in chief by fealty and service of a rose yearly; 3 messuages and 5 bovates of land, held jointly, as above, of Sir John de Moubray by fealty, and not of the king; and 2 bovates of land, held jointly, as above, of the same Sir John by fealty. Kyngeston upon Hull. Forty messuages and 2 gardens, held jointly, as above, of the king in free burgage at fee-farm, rendering 12l. 6s. yearly to the fee-farm of the town and 101s. yearly to William Graa; 28l. 18s. dry rent issuing from divers tenements held by divers tenants in fee, held jointly, as above, of the king in burgage of the town of Kyngeston; 3 messuages, held jointly, as above, of the king in burgage of the town; and 4 messuages, held in fee of the king in free burgage. The deceased by his will bequeathed the last seven messuages to Katharine, his wife, for life. Four messuages, 2 tofts, 10 bovates of land, 30a. wood and 34a. meadow, held in demesne jointly with the said Katharine of the lord de Moubray by the foreign service; and the rest of the town, held in service by the aforesaid service. Sollebergh. Eight messuages and 34 bovates of land, held jointly with the same Katharine of William de Thweng of Foston by the foreign service. South Couton. Three messuages and 60a. land and meadow, held jointly with the same Katharine of John de Couton in socage. Smithton. Two messuages, 10 tofts, 32 bovates of land and a close called ‘le Park,’ held jointly with the same Katharine of the bishop of Durham by service of 4l. yearly. He held no other lands &c. in the escheator’s bailiwick. He died on Sunday before the Nativity of St. John the Baptist last. Michael de la Pole, his son, aged 30 years and more, is his heir. Annexed schedule.—The said William and Michael his son also held jointly, to them and their heirs, by the king’s charter of licence, 400 marks yearly rent out of the ancient custom in the port of Kyngeston upon Hull, by the king’s gift. He also held the advowson of the church of Northcave of Edward the prince, as of the right of his wife, by fealty.

YORK.	LIBERTY OF HOLDERNESS. Inq. taken at Hedon, Thursday after St. Bartholomew, 40 Edward III.
	Rymeswell. The manor, held jointly with Katharine his wife, to them and the heirs of their bodies, of Sir Ingelram Coucy, earl of Bedford, and Isabel his wife, in right of the said Isabel, as of her manor of Brustwyk, as of the honor of Aumale, by the foreign service. Beghom. Six messuages, 6 tofts and 14 1/2 bovates and 3a. land, held in all respects as above. Esthalsham. A messuage and 3 1/2 bovates of land in demesne, and 14 bovates and 48a. land in service, held jointly with Katharine his wife, to them and his heirs and assigns, of the same Sir Ingelram and Isabel, as of the same manor and honor, by the foreign service and suit to the wapentake of Holderness every three weeks. He held no other lands &c. within the liberty. He died on 21 June last. Heir as above.

LINCOLN.	Inq. (indented) taken at Kirketon in Lyndesey, Wednesday after St. Laurence, 40 Edward III.
	Appelby. The manor, (fn. 1) held of the king in chief by service of a third part of a knight’s fee. The land is hard and stony and lies in common and uncultivated by reason of its sterility. Thornholme. He died seised of the foundation of the priory. Westwood. 20l. rent, held jointly with Katharine, his wife, of John de Moubray by the foreign service; and John de Moubray holds it of the king in chief. Frisby by Spridelyngton. The manor, held of John duke of Lancaster by the foreign service; and the duke holds it of the king in chief. The land is poor and sandy and lies in common and uncultivated. Frisby by Spridelyngton. 	He held no lands &c. in the county, because long before his death he enfeoffed John Moubray, knight, John de Codyngton, Robert de Scharwalton, William de Byfeld, clerks, John Bataill, William de Lindesele and John Baker of his manors of Castell Assheby and Brinkton, which manors are held of the heir of Laurence de Hastynges, late earl of Pembroke, by knight’s service.

77.	IDA LATE THE WIFE OF JOHN DE PLESCY, knight.

NORTHAMPTON.	Inq. (indented) taken at Burton, Thursday before Whitsunday, 40 Edward III.
	Burton. A third part of the manor, and 18a. arable with the rents of six bondmen, held of the king in chief by way of dower, by the endowment of John her husband, of the inheritance of Joan now the wife of John Hamely, kinswoman and heir of the said John de Plescy, to wit, daughter of Nicholas de Plescy son of Edmund de Plescy son of the same John. The deceased held no other lands &c. in the county. She died on Monday the feast of St. Thomas the Martyr, 39 Edward III, and after her death the reversion of all her dower belongs to the aforesaid John Hamely and Joan as of the right and inheritance of Joan, who is 25 years of age and more.

80.	RICHARD DE THISTELDEN.
	Writ to the escheator to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said Richard, and who has been in possession of his lands since his death and received the issues. 6 February, 40 Edward III.
SUFFOLK.	Inq. (indented) taken at Wodebrigge, 6 March, 40 Edward III.
	Bourgh. A messuage, 15a. land and a rood of meadow, held of the king in chief, as of the manor of Bredefelde, by service of an eighth part of a knight’s fee. The manor of Bredefield is held of the king in chief by service of one knight’s fee, and afterwards the king gave it, with the knights’ fees and advowsons, to John de Norwyco, knight, to hold to him and his heirs by that service. Richard died about the feast of St. George, 13 Edward III. Alice de Thistelden, wife of John Bysshop, aged 32 years and more, is his daughter and heir. The escheators have been in possession of the premises since his death, and have accounted for the issues at the Exchequer.

ESSEX.	Inq. (indented) taken at Hengham ad Castrum, Thursday before the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, 40 Edward III.
	Bumstede Helion. The manor, held for life jointly with John her husband, to them and the heirs of their bodies, by grant of Sir John Fermer, knight, and Richard de Stok, clerk, by a fine levied in the king’s court. It is held of the king as parcel of her barony. She died on 23 May last. Thomas de Veer, her son, aged 26 years and more, is heir of the aforesaid John and Maud.
ESSEX.	Inq. (indented) taken at Great Benteleye, Tuesday after St. Barnabas, 40 Edward III.
	Great Benteleye. The manor, held jointly as above, and by grant as above, of the king, service not known. Fratyngg. 120a. land, 3a. meadow and 12s. 8d. rent, held to her and the said John de Veer, and the heirs of the latter, of the duke of Lancaster, service not known. Date of death and heir as above.

The manor, which she held for her life of the king in chief (service not specified), by grant of John de Sutton, knight, the elder, John de Pelham, parson of the church of Wykham, and Thomas Tuwe, with remainder to Aubrey de Veer and the heirs male of his body, and remainder over to the right heirs of John de Veer, late earl of Oxford. The manor therefore falls to the said Aubrey.

The earl lately granted the manors of Great Abiton and Campes to John Fermer, knight, and Richard de Stoke, parson of the church of Lavenham, with the king’s licence; and they re-enfeoffed and granted them by a fine levied in the king’s court to the earl and Maud his wife and the heirs of their bodies, with reversion to the right heirs of the earl, also with the king’s licence. Thomas de Veer, earl of Oxford, is their son and heir in form aforesaid. He is 24 years of age and more.

	Lagthon. The manor, with the hundred of Schepelake, she alienated to John Soutton, the elder, knight, Robert de Naylinghurst, John de Pelham, clerks, and Thomas Tuwe, on 24 May last, and seisin was delivered to them about the hour of half prime (circa horam dimidie prime) on that day. She died on the same day at the hour of vespers. The manor and hundred are held of the king in chief, as of the honor of Laigle (de Aquila), by service of doing suit to the court of Rype every three weeks. Heir as above, aged 28 years.

	The said Joan held:— Mapeleskombe. Tenements (unspecified) worth 100s. yearly, held for life by way of dower after the death of the aforesaid Thomas, as of the castle of Dover, which is in the king’s hand, by service of rendering 22d. for ward of the same castle every 24 weeks, rendering three ploughshares yearly, worth 10d. each, to the heirs of John de Merworth at the tenements in Mapeleskombe which are in the king’s hand, doing suit to the same tenements late of John de Merworth every three weeks, rendering 7s. 8d. yearly to John Sepvauns (but whether this rent is parcel of the manor of Aldyngton, which is held of the king in chief, or not, the jurors do not know), rendering 14d. yearly to the manor of Otford, which is in the king’s hand by reason of the voidance of the archbishopric of Canterbury, rendering 5s. yearly to the manor of Faukham, and rendering 12d. yearly for aid of the sheriff of Kent. She died on 6 October last. Thomas son of Richard de Rokeslegh, aged 5 years, and Richard his brother, aged 13 years, are kinsmen and heirs of the said Thomas de Rokeslegh. Alesia late the wife of Richard de Rokeslegh has been in possession of the premises since the death of Joan, and has to answer therefor to the king.
