The manor, whereof the site and 50 a. land, pasture and wood are held of the king in chief, as of his castle of Dover, by a rent of 5s. for ward of the said castle to be paid from year to year at the end of every 20 weeks, and the residue is held of divers lords, services not known. He died on 18 December last. William atte Wode, his uncle, aged 40 years and more, is his heir. |

He died on the day of St. Matthew in the year aforesaid. Joan and Margaret, his daughters, aged respectively 11 years and more and 7 years and more, are his heirs. Joan is married to a certain David ap Thomas without the king’s licence. |

He held the under-mentioned messuage etc. in his demesne as of fee.
Assheford. A messuage and a carucate of land, and 27s. 2d. rent of assise from tenants at will, held by knight’s service of the heir of John de Clavill, late a minor in the wardship of Edward III, which John held them of Edward le Despenser, then a minor in the same wardship. He died on 14 October, 36 Edward III. William de Assheford, his son, who was 2 years of age and more at the time of his death, is his heir. Thomas Cheyne, then escheator, received the issues of the premises from the said 14 October until 1 July, 38 Edward III, when the king by letters patent granted the custody of the premises to Henry Percehay until the lawful age of the heir, at a rent of 4 marks yearly at the Exchequer. Afterwards the present king, by letters patent of 18 October, 1 Richard II, granted to the same Henry the marriage of the heir for a payment of 17 marks 6s. 8d. at the Exchequer. By virtue of these grants the said Henry and his executors have been in possession of the premises and received the issues ever since the said 1 July. |

He died on 25 May, 3 Richard II. Thomas, his son, aged 5 years on 19 May last, is his heir. Henry Clerk of King’s Bromley and Richard Walker received the issues of the manor of Draycote from the death of Rees until Christmas last, by what title the jurors know not. Since Christmas the issues have remained unlevied in the hands of the tenants. Robert Childcote, clerk, and Robert Bust have received the issues of the manor of Tatenhull every since the death of the said Rees, by what title the jurors know not. |

John Swyneford, who died on 7 May, 17 Edward III, held the under-mentioned manors of Little Chishell and Gernouns in his demesne as of fee. Elizabeth wife of William Belesby, knight, daughter of William Swyneford son of Thomas brother of John father of John father of the said John Swyneford, is kinswoman and heir of the last-named John Swyneford, and is 35 years of age and more. From the time of the death of the said John Swyneford until 3 May, 20 Edward III, Maud late the wife of Giles Argentem, knight, mother of the aforesaid John Argentem, knight, occupied the manors and received the profits thereof by reason of the minority of John and Thomas, sons of the said John Swyneford, alleging that the manors were held of her by homage and service of 1 lb. pepper yearly. On the said 3 May she granted the custody of the manors to the said John Argentem, knight, who occupied them and received the issues until his death. Since his death Simon Warde has occupied them and received the profits. Brendehall in Bumpsted ad Turrim. A fourth part of the manor, held of the king, as of the honor of Boulogne, by knight’s service. Little Chishell. The manor, held of the king, as of the honor of Hagenet, by knight’s service. Gernouns. The manor so called, in Bumpstede ad Turrim, held of the king, as of the honor of Boulogne, by knight’s service. The said John Argentem died on Tuesday the feast of St. Katharine last. Margaret, daughter of Joan late wife of Bartholomew de Nanton, knight, one of his daughters, Baldwin Seint George, son of Baldwin Seint George, knight, and Alice, his wife, his second daughter, and Maud, wife of Ivo FitzWaryn, knight, his third daughter, are his heirs. Margaret is 30 years of age, Baldwin 21 years and more, and Maud 20 years and more. |

Crokes Eston. The manor, with the advowson of the church, held of the lord of Chuyt, as of his manor of Chuyt, services not known. The said manor of Chuyt is in the king’s hand by reason of the minority of John, son and heir of John de Lyle, tenant in chief. Walter Haywod has 40s. yearly for life out of the said manor of Crokes Eston. Welham, Medemedoune, Middeldoune and Hangeres. 4 parcels of assart so called, in the forest of Chuyt, held of the king, as parcel of the manor of Crokes Eston, by service of paying 10s. 8 1/2d. yearly at the castle of Winchester. He died on 25 April last. Robert, son of the above-mentioned John Avenell, aged 6 years and more and in the king’s wardship, is his next heir by reason of the gift aforesaid. |

He and Cecily, his wife, who is still living, purchased the under-mentioned messuage etc. in Dodynton from John Weston of Inste, to hold to them and his (Nicholas’s) heirs. He formerly held the under-mentioned manors of Durseleye and Colde Newenton in his demesne as of fee, and long before his death gave them with the king’s licence to William de Auste and Nicholas Waneswell, their heirs and assigns, that they might re-enfeoff him and the aforesaid Cecily and his heirs thereof, which they did by their charter. Dodynton. The manor (extent given), held of the king in chief by knight’s service. Stanleye St. Leonard. A messuage, a virgate of land, 10 a. meadow, 5 a. wood and 40s. rent, held of the king in chief by knight’s service. Dodynton. The under-mentioned tenements came into the hands of Edward III by the death of John son of Walter Baskervill, knight, and by reason of the minority of John, his son and heir. Edward III granted the custody of them until the lawful age of the said heir, and so from heir to heir until one of them should reach full age, to David Holgrave of the county of Salop by letters patent [at a rent of 40 marks yearly. Afterwards David granted all his estate in the custody to William Huggeford. David and William have had possession of the premises until now.

Two-thirds of a messuage, of a carucate of land, of 8 a. meadow, of 20 a. pasture, of 4 a. wood and of 39s. 8d. rent, held of John Brut by service of rendering 1 lb. pepper yearly. Bradewardyn. He died on 6 March, 5 Richard II. Robert de Fenton of Kylyngwykpercy, aged 30 years and more, is his heir. After his death Robert Passelewe, late escheator in the county, seized the premises into the king’s hand and demised them for a farm of 6s. 8d. yearly to the said Robert de Fenton, who has occupied them and received the issues ever since John’s death. |

The said William and Eleanor, his wife, who is still living, held the under-mentioned manor in right of the said Eleanor, and gave it to John Hulle, John Prestecote, John Wadham, John Copleston and Thomas Raymound in fee simple. Afterwards, by a fine levied in the king’s court, the same William and Eleanor released it to the said grantees and the heirs of John Copleston, and the grantees gave the whole manor to Christina Brit and to the said William and Eleanor and the heirs of their bodies, with remainder in default of such heirs to Eleanor and the heirs of her body. Christina died; and after her death William was outlawed in the city of London at the suit of John Pynchon, citizen of London, on the feast of St. Barnabas, 3 Richard II, in a plea of debt; by virtue of which outlawry Roger Jul, late escheator in Devon, seized the manor into the king’s hand. William had no estate in the manor except in fee tail, as aforesaid, at the time of the outlawry.
Clauton. The manor, held of Nicholas de la Pomeray, as of his manor of Brodeclist, by knight’s service, except a messuage and 2 carucates of land therein which are held of John Ferers of Churcheton, as of his manor of Pole, by knight’s service. He died on 18 December last. He and Eleanor had issue a son and heir Thomas, who is 9 years of age and more. The present escheator has seized the manor into the king’s hand. |
