WILTS. Inq. taken at Hyndon, 6 August, 13 Richard II.
She held the under-mentioned messuage, land, rent and advowson for life, as in dower.
Chikkelade. A messuage, 60 a. land and pasture and 10s. rent, with the advowson of the church, tenure not known at present.
She died on 13 July last. Thomas Berkeley, son of the aforesaid Maurice Berkeley, is her heir and is 36 years of age and more.

She held the under-mentioned two-thirds, third part, lands, rent and island in dower, by endowment of Maurice her late husband, and assignment of Edward III.
Portbury. Two-thirds of the manor, in compensation for other lands late of the said Maurice, held of the earl of Devon by fealty only.
Porteshed. A third part of the manor, held of the duke of Lancaster, as of the honor of Trowbrigg, by knight’s service; and a messuage, a virgate of land and a dovecote, held of the lord of Capenore by knight’s service.
Criston and Uphull. 2 messuages and a virgate of land, with the advowson of the church of Brene, tenure not known.
Briggewater. 10l. yearly rent issuing from lands of the lord de la Sowche of Haryngeworth, as of his manor of La Park.

She held the under-mentioned manor for life in dower, by endowment of Maurice her husband.
Great Wenden. The manor (extent given), held of Sir John Howard, knight, and Margery his wife, daughter and heir of John de Plays, knight, by service of one knight’s fee.
She died on Tuesday after the Translation of St. Thomas the Martyr last. Thomas Berkeley of Berkeley, knight, her son by the said Maurice, aged as last above, is their next heir.

She held in dower after the death of the said Maurice, the under-mentioned manors of Coueley, Upton St. Leonard and Aure and messuage &c. in Seyncleye.
She held the under-mentioned manor of Hurst and rents of 22 marks and 12l. 10s. in joint feoffment with the said Maurice, by gift of Sir Thomas de Berkeley, father of the said Maurice, to them and their heirs male.
Coueley. The manor (extent given), held of the king by knight’s service.
Upton St. Leonard. The manor, held of the king, of his barton by Gloucestre, by service of suit of court, of ancient demesne.
Seyncleye. A messuage and a virgate of land, held of the abbess of Caen by service of ploughing, reaping and carrying, and by suit of court in the manor of Hampton Monialium.
Aure. The manor (extent given), with its appurtenances, to wit, Ettelowe and Blakeney with the hundred of Bliddeslowe, held of the earl of March by service of a peppercorn. The extent includes a Severn pasture.
Hurst. The manor, held of the lord de Clyfford of the North by knight’s service.
Frompton. 22 marks yearly rent in the manor.

He died on Tuesday before St. Dunstan, to wit, 17 Kal. June, 47 Edward III. Elizabeth his daughter, aged 15 years and more, is his heir.

ESSEX. Inq. (indented) taken at Brendewode, 5 August, 13 Richard II.
He held no fees or advowsons of churches; but he held the under-mentioned advowson, which was taken into the king’s hand on his death by reason of the minority of Elizabeth his daughter and heir.
Alvythele. The advowson of the free chapel of St. Mary in the churchyard there.
He died on Tuesday before St. Dunstan, 48 Edward III.

Writ to the escheator to make a fresh inquisition concerning the lands &c. late of the said John: as the inquisition taken before John Radeston, late escheator, states that he held certain lands &c. in Wynflith, Salford, Dondray, Barwe, Bacwille, Hasell, Rochel, Littelton and Ayshton, and the advowson of the church of Wynflith, but does not specify what lands they were or what estate he had in them; and moreover the king is given to understand that he held more lands than those specified in the inquisition. 22 July, 13 Richard II.
SOMERSET. Inq. taken at Well …, Thursday before St. Denis, 13 Richard II.
In the inquisition taken by John Radeston the under-mentioned lands &c. ought to have been specified. John Basset never had any lands &c. except those mentioned, and had no estate in them except for a term of 10 years by grant of Simon Basset, knight, his father. After the said term Simon entered into his reversion thereof, and enfeoffed John Claveleye and Richard Goldeneye, chaplains. The said feoffees thereupon granted the lands &c. to Simon and Maud his wife, for life, with successive remainders to Maurice Basset and the heirs of his body, to Edmund Basset and the heirs of his body, and to Simon’s right heirs. After Simon’s death the said Maud took the issues and profits of the lands all her life; and after her death the said Edmund entered into the lands and has taken the issues and profits ever since, because Maurice died without heir of his body in Maud’s lifetime.
Wynflith. A messuage, a carucate of land and 8 a. meadow, with the advowson of the church.
Salford. A messuage, a virgate of land and 3 a. meadow.
Doundray. 20 a. land and 2 1/2 a. meadow.
Barwe. 10s. rent.
Bacwell. 5s. rent.
Hasell. A messuage, 20 a. land and 3 a. meadow.
Rochel. 2 messuages and 10 a. land.
Littelton. A messuage, 20 a. land and 2 a. meadow.

All the above lands &c., except those in Doundray and Hasell, are held of the lord le Despenser, as of the honor of Gloucester, by knight’s service. Those in Doundray and Hasell are held of the bishop of Bath and Wells by knight’s service.
John Basset died on Thursday after the Epiphany, 35 Edward III. Margaret his daughter, aged 30 years and more, is his heir.

Bradewelle by Tillyngham. 3s. 6d. yearly rent from 2 cottages and 8 a. land held by Ralph atte Wode of Bradewell; 13d. yearly rent from 5 a. land held by William Borevare; 9d. yearly rent from a cottage and 3 a. land held by Ralph Judde; and the advowson of the church.
He died on 31 January, 9 Richard II. Thomas his son, aged 20 years on 4 January last, is his heir.
Ever since his death the said Ralph atte Wode, William Borevare and Ralph Judde have had possession of the said rents because nobody demanded them from them.

He died on Monday before the Purification, 9 Richard II. Thomas Bardolf, his son, aged 21 years and more, is his heir.
Ever since his death Roger Skynnere of Wendore and other tenants have had possession of the said lands and rents, by what title the jurors know not.

He held the under-mentioned rent and messuage &c. in his demesne as of fee.
Carleton in Lyndrik. 28s. rent of assise, held of the king as in socage by service of 6d. for a pair of gilt spurs to be paid yearly in the Exchequer at Michaelmas by the hands of the sheriff; and a messuage called ‘le Whithalle’ and a carucate of land, held of Henry Fitz Hugh, knight, by service of 23s. 10d. yearly and suit to his court of Carleton every three weeks, and by service of a relief of 2s. at the entry of the right heir.
He died on Sunday after St. John the Baptist last. Thomas, John, Walter and Henry, his sons, are co-heirs to shares of the said rent of assise. The said Thomas, aged 28 years and more, is his heir to the said messuage and land.

He died on 16 October, 36 Edward III. John Chamberleyn, his son, who was 31 years of age on Friday the feast of the Purification, 13 Richard II, is his heir.
Since his death the escheators of the county for the time being have occupied the premises and taken the issues and profits thereof by reason of the minority of the heir of the said late earl of March.

Writ to the escheator in co. Bedford – on information that Master Henry del Clyf, who held in chief the manor of Wilden (to which the advowson of the church of the manor is appurtenant and appendant), granted the manor with its appurtenances, by a fine levied in the court of Edward III, to John Pabenham and Joan his wife, for life, with successive remainders to John son of the said John de Pabenham, and the heirs of his body, to James brother of the said John son of John, and the heirs of his body, and to Edmund brother of the said James, and the heirs of his body, that after the death of the said John and Joan, and also of the said John son of John without heir of his body, the said James entered into the manor and enfeoffed the said Edmund thereof on condition that he should re-enfeoff him (James) and Katharine his wife thereof, to hold to them and the heirs of their bodies, that Edmund enfeoffed James and Katharine accordingly, reserving to himself the advowson of the church contrary to the said condition, that when the manor was subsequently seized into the hand of Edward III on the death of James and Katharine by reason of the minority of Margery their daughter and heir, the said Edmund continued possession of the advowson, which ought to have been seized into the said king’s hand together with the manor by pretext of the condition aforesaid, and presented thereto at divers times while Margery was a minor in the king’s wardship, and that the advowson has not yet been seized into the king’s hand, as it ought to have been – to make inquisition touching the truth of the premises and all other matters and circumstances concerning the premises. 16 May, 13 Richard II.
BEDFORD. Inq. taken at Bedeford, Tuesday after Whitsunday, 13 Richard II.
The findings of the inquisition agree with the facts as given in the writ down to and including the reservation of the advowson by Edmund. After the death of Edmund, John Bate, his executor, sold the advowson to William Borstall, clerk. James and Katharine had a daughter and heir named Margery, now the wife of William Huggeford, knight. After their death the said Margery was a minor in the wardship of Edward III, who presented to the church by reason of such wardship. The manor was held by Henry del Clyf of the king in chief, as of the honor of Peverel.
