He was seised in his demesne as of fee of the under-mentioned moiety of a manor, etc.
Cramlyngton. A moiety of the manor and lordship, and 180 a. demesne lands and meadows, 10 husband-lands, 2 bovates of land and 2 cottages, together with the service and rent of 13 1/2d. due from 3 husband-lands which Walter Flane held of him while he lived. The premises are worth by the year 40s. and no more, because they are wasted by the war of Scotland. Cramlyngton. A mediety of the advowson of the chapel. All the above he held of the king in chief by service of a fourth part of a knight’s fee and by service of rendering to the king 3s. 4 3/4d. yearly by the hands of the sheriff for castle-guard and 5 1/2d. yearly for cornage. He died on Sunday the morrow of St. Martin last. William de Cramlyngton, his son, aged 30 years and more, is his heir. |

The under-mentioned manors were taken into the hands of Edward III by the death of Thomas and by reason of the minority of Henry. Henry held them of the king in chief while a minor, and after his death they came to the king’s hands.
Wrenstede. The manor, with the advowson of the church of Frenstede, held of the king in chief by payment of 10s. for ward of the castle of Dover at the end of every 20 weeks. Asshehurst. The manor, with the advowson of the church, similarly held. He died on 28 March last. John Bedeford, aged 30 years and more, son of Alice sister of Sir Henry Chalfhunte, knight, father of the said Thomas, Roger Turnour, chaplain, aged 40 years and more, son and heir of Christina sister of the same Sir Henry, Sibyl Jarcomvile, aged 80 years and more, sister of the same Sir Henry, and Agnes, aged 22 years and more, daughter and heir of Walter atte Style of the county of Buckingham, son and heir of Joan sister of the same Sir Henry, are next heirs of the said Henry son of Thomas. |

A messuage and 4 bovates of land, held of Sir John de Grey of Codenore by homage and fealty and service of 8s. yearly. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on Tuesday before St. Thomas the Apostle, 8 Richard II. Thomas Columbell, his son, aged 19 years and more (to wit, from Monday in Whitsun week last), is his heir. She held the under-mentioned third parts of manors &c. in dower, by endowment of her said husband, of the inheritance of Richard Charlys, her said husband’s kinsman and heir, except certain lands &c. of gavelkind tenure, parcels of the said manors, whereof in accordance with the custom of gavelkind she was not dowered because after the death of her said husband she married Walter Colpeper.
Adyngton. A third part of the manor, which manor, except the said lands &c. of gavelkind tenure, is held of the earl of March, a minor in the king’s wardship, as of the manor of Swannescomp, by homage and fealty and 36s. for castle-guard to be paid to the king yearly at the castle of Rochester by the hands of the sheriff on the feast of St. Andrew. Padelesworthe. A third part of the manor, which manor, except the said lands &c. of gavelkind tenure, is held of the king and others by knight’s service, to wit, of the king by homage and fealty and 24s. for castle-guard to be paid as above, and of the bishop of Rochester by homage and fealty and service of 16d. rent yearly. Nassynden. A third part of the manor, which manor, except the said lands &c. of gavelkind tenure, is held of the king in chief by knight’s service. Little Delse. A third part of the manor, which manor, except the said lands &c. of gavelkind tenure, is held of the king in chief by knight’s service and service of 12s. for castle-guard to be paid to the king yearly at the castle of Rochester on the feast of St. Andrew; and part of the same manor is held of the lord de Say by service of a pair of gilt spurs to be paid yearly on the feast of St. Martin. Palstre. A third part of the manor, with a third part of a moiety of the ferry of Smalelyde; which manor and moiety are held of the king and others by knight’s service, to wit, of the king, as of his castle of Ledys, by homage and fealty and suit of court, and of the archbishop of Canterbury by homage and fealty. The said Alice died on 17 April last. Richard Charlys, of full age, is her husband’s kinsman and next heir to the above inheritance. |

He held the under-mentioned messuage and lands as of the right of Hawise his wife by gift and feoffment of Denis Kene, chaplain, and Walter Prat to the said Hawise for life, with remainder to John and his heirs. The date of the charter of feoffment is at Aketon, Monday after SS. Peter and Paul, 4 Richard II.
Aketon and Preston. A messuage, 100 a. land, 5 a. meadow, 1 a. pasture, 10 a. wood, 30s. rent and a third part of an old windmill, held of the king in chief, as of the honor of Hatfeld Peverell, by service of an eighth part of a knight’s fee and by suit to the king’s court of the said honor every three weeks. Aketon. 40 a. arable, held of John de Sutton, knight, by service of 2s. yearly rent. He died on Tuesday the eve of All Saints last. John his son, aged 25 years and more, is his next heir in blood. |

He was seised in his demesne as of fee of the under-mentioned messuage, etc.
Elmeton. A messuage and 4 bovates of land called ‘Walleyhall’. Cressewell. Rents of 25s. 1d. and a capon from certain free tenants. The premises are held of the Lord Deyncourt, as of his manor of Elmeton, by fealty and the service of providing a reaper to reap with him at Elmeton for one day in autumn, and by coming twice a year to two great courts of the said lord at Elmeton. He died at Stoke by Newerk, co. Nottingham, on Thursday the eve of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary last. William his son, who was born at Stoke aforesaid on Wednesday after the Purification last, is his heir. |

The manor (extent given), which is charged with 53s. 4d. yearly rent payable to Matthew Thirley and Denise his wife during the life of the latter; 13s. 4d. rent from certain lands &c. in Wadyngton which John de Hikham of Wadyngton and Margaret his wife hold for life at the said rent; and 26s. 8d. rent from lands &c. formerly belonging to Ralph de Basaye and now held by divers tenants in fee. The manor and lands aforesaid are held of the king, of the ancient demesne of the crown of England, as of the honor of Chester. Qwassyngburgh. A parcel of meadow, held of the queen of England, as of the honor of Richmond. He held no other lands &c. in the county as far as the jurors can ascertain at present. He was seised in his demesne as of fee of the under-mentioned lands.
Esthidwyn and Unthank. Lands &c. worth 44s. yearly, held of the baron of Graystok by service of a fourth part of a knight’s fee. He died on the feast of St. Cuthbert in the autumn, 23 Edward III. Robert de Hidwyn, his son, aged 30 years and more, was his heir. Robert the son was in possession of the premises for 6 years after his father’s death; and then, in consequence of an inquisition taken before the escheator on 9 October, 30 Edward III, the premises were seized into the king’s hand by reason of the adherence of Robert the father to Gilbert de Midilton, traitor. After the said seizure Robert the son was in possession all his life by letters patent of Edward III, rendering therefor 44s. yearly at the Exchequer. He died on 7 October last, leaving a son and heir John, now aged 8 months and more. Since his death David de Howyk, clerk, and Thomas de Motherby have been in possession by the king’s letters patent, rendering 44s. yearly at the Exchequer. |

The said Robert and Isabel held the under-mentioned manor etc. in fee tail by feoffment of John de Sywardbye. They held no other lands &c. in the county.
Eslyngton. The manor, held of Edward III in chief by knight’s service, by service of 40s. of old farm post terras datas and 40s. of new farm to be paid to the king yearly into the hands of the sheriff, by service of 14 1/2d. for cornage to be paid as above, by service of 15s. 7 1/2d. to be paid to the king yearly into the hands of the constable of the castle of Bamburgh for truncage, and by doing suit to the county court of Northumberland every 6 weeks. Whitingham, Throunton and Barton. A moiety of the towns, held of the king in chief by service of 3s. 4d. or a moiety of a sore sparrowhawk of the farm of the county post terras datas to be paid to the king yearly into the hands of the sheriff, by service of 10s. yearly to be paid as above among the farms of abbots, priors and others of the county for disafforesting their lands, by service of 18d. yearly for cornage to be paid as above, and by service of 3s. yearly to be paid as above in respect of the farm of small parcels of assarts. Isabel died on 12 October, 8 Edward III, and Robert on 10 October, 23 Edward III. Christiana their daughter was their next heir in fee tail. She married William de la Vale and died on the feast of St. Margaret, 38 Edward III. William de la Vale, her son by the said William, aged 23 years and more, is her heir. Christiana, Elizabeth and Isabel, daughters of the said Robert, each had possession of a third part of two-thirds of the premises as follows:— Christiana wife of William de la Vale, knight, for 8 years, Elizabeth wife of Gilbert Heron for 13 years, and Isabel wife of Robert de Bowes for 13 years. Afterwards the last named Isabel, in her widowhood, alienated two-thirds of all the lands &c. aforesaid to Donald de Hesilrig by a fine levied in the court of Edward III, and Donald was in possession thereof from the octave of Michaelmas, 36 Edward III, until Sunday after Easter, 8 Richard II. Since his death Joan his wife has had possession of the two-thirds. The other third part of the premises was in the possession of Elizabeth second wife of Robert de Eslyngton aforesaid by way of dower from the time of the death of the said Robert until Thursday after Michaelmas last, on which day the said Elizabeth died. |

He was once seised of the under-mentioned moiety, but was disseised thereof by John Fitz Roger, his brother, Alice wife of the said John, and Elizabeth late the wife of Henry Fitz Roger to the use of the said John and Alice. John had issue Elizabeth, and died; and immediately afterwards Thomas died without issue, and Alice married Ralph Carminow, knight. Elizabeth, John’s daughter, married John Bonevylle, and they entered into the moiety and were disseised thereof by the said Ralph and Alice and Walter ‘Raufysservant Carminow’, whereupon they brought an assise of novel disseisin against the said Ralph, Alice and Walter before the king at Salisbury in three weeks of Easter, and recovered the moiety as the right of Elizabeth, kinswoman and heir of the said Thomas Fitz Roger.
Westkyngton. A moiety of the manor, held of the king in chief by service of an eighth part of a knight’s fee. He died on Sunday before SS. Philip and James, 4 Richard II. The said Elizabeth wife of John Bonevylle, aged 16 years and more, is his heir, to wit, daughter of John his brother. The aforesaid Ralph and Alice were in possession of the moiety from the time of his death until the said assise. After the assise the king by his letters patent committed the moiety to John Hull and John Wadham until the lawful age of the heir, and they have been in possession and received the issues until now. |

Barneby by Pokelyngton. A toft and 4 bovates of land, held of the king in chief by service of providing part of an archer in the castle of York for 40 days in time of war. Meltenby. 2 tofts and 16 bovates of land, held of the prior of the hospital of St. John of Jerusalem in England and the prior of Wartre by service of 6s. 2d. yearly. She died on the eve of Ascension Day last. Denise daughter of the said Robert de Creppyng, aged 50 years and more, is next heir to the premises, because Remigius and Katharine died without heir of their bodies. |

Since her death William Bayford and Robert Beverle have received the issues of the manor by virtue of the king’s letters patent. |

A messuage, 30 a. poor arable, 2 a. meadow and 8 a. wood within the liberty of the town, held as in burgage of the borough of the said town by service of doing three suits to the hundred of the town at the three general hundreds. He died on 7 December, 7 Richard II. Anne his daughter, aged 9 years on 22 July last, is his heir. The said Joan has been in possession of the premises and received the issues since his death by virtue of the above legacy. |

He held no lands &c. in the county when he died, because long before his death he enfeoffed Roger de Clifton, parson of the church of Lodbrok, John de Lye, clerk, and Nicholas le Wodeward of the under-mentioned manors without any condition, fraud or collusion, and all the tenants attorned to the feoffees. Afterwards he received back the manor of Lodbrok in fee from the said feoffees, and by his charter dated at Lodbrok, Tuesday … St. Barnabas, 21 Edward III, granted it to the said Roger and Nicholas and William de Catesby; and all the tenants attorned to the said feoffees. After Roger’s death, he released all his right in the manor to the other two feoffees.
