Warwick. Inq. Monday before the Ascension, 12 Edw. I.
Upton by Haselouer. A manse with dovecot and 4 virgates land, 1 virgate with a messuage in villenage, 4 cottages, a grove, a water-mill, and 10d. rent from two free tenants (names given), held of John son and heir of William le Botiler of Wemme, of the fee of the earl of Warwick, who is under age and in the king's wardship, by service of 1 knight.
Stodleye. 6s rent from two freemen holding 2 messuages.
Ellen sometime his wife claims dower of all the above.
He died on Saturday the eve of the close of Easter, 12 Edw. I.
He had four sisters, of whom Christiana the eldest is dead, and her son and heir named Hugh Trenchevent is aged 60 and more; another sister named Hawis is also dead, whose son named William de Whitenton is aged 40 and more; the third sister named Joan still survives and is aged 80 and more; and the fourth sister named Maud is dead and her son John is aged 26 and more: the said Hugh, William, Joan and John are his next heirs.

Whiteley. 22s. rent from 2 virgates land and 2 cottages (names of tenants given), held of the gift and enfeoffment of King Henry the king's father, without service, and the said king entered immediately after the death of the said Simon, and the tenants have made payment of the said rent at the king's exchequer, and to the escheators, until now. One Cecily his sister succeeded him by hereditary right, who died five years ago without any possession, (and to her) succeeded Roger le Taylur her son.
He died at the (feast of the) Circumcision, 56 Hen. [III.]. Roger le Taylur, son of Cecily his sister, aged ... and more, is his next heir.

land in Chilewell, and the advowson of the church of Strelleye; 10 bovates land held of the heirs of Robert le Vavasur for 20s. rent yearly; and 2 bovates held of the fee of Arnhale for 16d. yearly.

Waddon. A capital messuage &c., 240a. arable, 12a. meadow, pasture, a mill, 100s. rent of assize, works of customers &c., held of King Henry the king's father in chief on the day he died pertaining to (his) barony.
Meldeburn. 50a. arable held of the prior of Ely, rendering 15½qr. of corn, 2qr. 5bus. of barley, and 21qr. 3bus. of oats.
Thomas, son of Geoffrey de Schalariis the younger, aged 21 on the day of St. Peter in Cathedra, 12 Edw. I., is his next heir.
Hertford. Inq. Thursday the eve of the Nativity of the Blessed Mary, 12 Edw. I.
Wydihale. The manor (extent given), held of the king in chief by barony, was delivered by the said Geoffrey to Queen Eleanor the king's mother for twelve years, within which she demised the same to Sir Geoffrey de Scalariis the younger and Eleanor his wife to the end of her term, by which demise together with a charter which they say they have from the said Geoffrey the elder, they had entry into the manor; and the said Geoffrey the elder after his demise to the said queen never entered the manor nor changed his estate (therein).

Acton Torvile. The manor which is of the fee of Kivele, co. Wilts, held in chief by knight's service of Richard son of Alan, who is in the king's wardship.
Richard his son, aged 19, is his next heir.

[Oxford.] Inq. held at Neweburi, Sunday after St. John ante Portam Latinam, 12 Edw. I.
A third part of the serjeanty of the king's chapel (capelle), held for life of the demise of Sir Oliver de Stanford, worth 24 marks.
Isabel de Stanford and Amice her sister, are next heirs of this serjeanty, and of full age.
Mandate to Sir William de Hamelton, having inspected the inquisition made upon the third part of the fee of the spigurnels sold to Sir Reginald son of Peter, to assign two justices to receive the recognisances of the sisters whose names are in the inquisition; dated the 10th of the Kalends of October.
Copy of royal charter inspecting and confirming a grant by Oliver de Stauford to Richard de Turbervill of his serjeanty and office as well of the king's chapel as of the king's seal, to be held for his life, saving to the said Oliver and his heirs "dominium virge" to the same pertaining, doing to the king all services pertaining to the said serjeanty and office, and rendering to the said Oliver and his heirs a mark of silver yearly. Dated 8 Oct. 43 Hen. III. For which confirmation he gave the king a mark of gold, which he paid into the king's wardrobe.

Wilts. Inq. Monday before the Decollation of St. John the Baptist, 12 Edw. I.
Chadewiz in the hundred of Mere. The manor, held by reason of Joan de Sancto Martino whom he married, who was enfeoffed thereof by one Joan de Neyvile long before he married her, and still survives and holds the manor of Sir William de Sancto Martino heir of the said Joan de Neyvile, rendering 6d. yearly or a pair of gilt spurs; and the said Sir William (holds) of the earl of Lincoln of the honour of Salisbury.
He died on Tuesday before St. Dunstan, 12 Edw. I. Hugh his son, aged 19 at Easter, 12 Edw. I., is his next heir.

Fressewatere in the Isle of Wyth. A capital messuage &c., 80a. arable in demesne, 2½a. meadow, and 6l. 11s. 1d. rents of free and customary tenants, held of Sir John de Insula by service of ¼ knight's fee.

Southampton. Inq. Tuesday the octave of the Assumption, 12 Edw. I.
Basingstok manor. 80a. land of the king's ancient demesne, which King Henry I, son of the Conqueror, sometime had given to his falconer, name unknown, to be held for his life only; and one Hugh de Braybef, ancestor of the said William, during the lifetime of the said falconer, sought the said land for his service done in Brittany from the said king, who by word of mouth granted the same to him so far as in him was, if he could induce the said falconer thereto; and the said Hugh so wrought with the said falconer that he put himself with the said land in the custody of the said Hugh, where he died; after whose death the said Hugh held the land by the said grant so made by word of mouth, and thus heir after heir of the said Hugh died seised thereof having no other warrant than occupation by the said grant, but if it ought to be held of anyone, it ought to be held of the king; ½ virgate land held of the king by socage, rendering 5s. yearly for the farm of Basingstok; 56a. arable held of divers feoffors rendering 4s. 4d. yearly; and divers parcels of meadow held of divers feoffors rendering 2d. yearly.
Estrop. The manor, held of Humphrey de Boun, earl of Hereford, by service of 1 knight's fee.
Likeput by Basinges. The hamlet, held of Sir John de Sancto Johanne by service of ¼ knight's fee.

Drayton and Appelshawe. 1 fee held by Herbert de Kaune, rendering 40s. scutage, and doing suit of court as the others aforesaid.

Writ to brother Robert de Valle Regali, escheator in the county of Chester, 9 Sept. 12 Edw. I.
Chester. Inq. Thursday the day of St. Matthew.
Hatton. A fourth part held of Roger de Clotton, rendering yearly ½ mark, and another fourth part held of Agnes sometime the wife of William de Huckysley and Ran(ulph) alias Rand(olph) de Hulfeld and Petronilla his wife, rendering ½ mark yearly, and doing foreign service, viz.—two footmen in time of war to the heir of the said Roger, and two to the said Agnes &c.; and he rendered 1 mark to the heirs of Hugh de Waverton, whereof a fourth part fell to the said Hugh de Hatton and his heirs.
Waverton. A fourth part held of the abbot of Chester rendering 1d. yearly.
Brexis, Scholley and Aldrisey. A fourth part, held of Roderick and Beatrice his wife through her dower.
John his son, aged 11, is his next heir.
Writ of plenius certiorari, on the complaint of Robert de Pulford that the escheator had ejected him from the wardship of land in Waverton which the said Hugh held of him by knight's service, and when the king commanded the escheator to restore it, he delivered it to Hugh de Pulford, 26 Sept. 12 Edw. I.
Chester. Inq. Wednesday after St. Michael.
Waverton. Robert de Pulford was in seisin of the wardship of 1 carucate land in Waverton, on the day when the king's bailiffs ejected him, and not Hugh de Pulford, for Emma his mother enfeoffed the said Robert of a fourth part of the town, with all the right she had in the same carucate, as is contained in a charter which he has, and after the death of Hugh de Hatton, his tenant, he entered upon the said wardship.

Chester. Inq. Monday before St. Margaret, 13 Edw. I.
Hatton. The manor was held by the said Hugh, rendering ½ mark to Roger de Clotton; ½ mark to his parceners, viz.—Agnes de Huxeleg, and Ran(ulph) de Hulfeld and Petronilla his wife; and 1 mark to the parceners of Waverton; and he did homage to the said Roger, and foreign service to him and his parceners, viz.—4 footmen in time of war.
Waverton. A fourth part of the manor, rendering 1d. yearly to William Pygot, which the abbot of Chester bought of the said William.
Brex', Scholleg and Aldresey. A fourth part, held of Roderick son of Griffin and Beatrice his wife, by knight's service.

Mandate from W. de Benlan (?), the king's sub-escheator on this side the Trent, to Sir Richard de Bray, sub-escheator in cos. Bedford and Buckingham, reciting writ dated 5 June, 12 Edw. I.

Fulbroc. The manor (extent given), held of the earl of Gloucester by service of ¼ knight's fee.

Gatesden. The manor (extent given) including the carriage of five cartloads of hay from the park of Wyginton, held of the earl of Cornwall by service of two parts of 1 knight's fee; besides a common wood called Heldewod containing 20 acres, which he held of William de Castelrauf by service of 1lb. cummin.

Byflete. The manor with the hamlets of Bussele and Frogbury (full extent given), including the advowson of the church of Byflete, pasture in Bulbrok and le Fryth, rent at Cneresheved (?), a toll of brewers called 'le Schench,' and perquisites of court of Byflet, Waybrugg', Bisselegh and Frogbury, held of the abbot and convent of Certeseye by service of ½ knight's fee, suit at the hundred (court) of Godele, and rendering 1 mark to the said abbot &c. which they receive of the rent of Bussele.

Frogbury (extent given).
Waybrugg. The hamlet (extent given), held of the said abbot &c. as free socage, rendering to them 15s. yearly, to Richard le Graunt for a meadow called le Grantesmed ½lb. pepper, and to Sir Hamo de Gatton 1 mark, but the jury know not for what tenement.
He held nothing of the king in the county.

Hangerham. The manor (extent given with names of tenants) held of Sir Gilbert (?) (Vilbo) de Humframvile, doing suit at the court of the said G. at Hirbotil, and scutage when it shall happen.
Angeharm. The advowson of the church pertains to the manor of Hangrham.
Reueley alias Reweley. A moiety held by Alexander de Bidike rendering 40d., and doing suit of court; and the other moiety held by Sir Laurence de Sancta Mora doing suit at the court of Hangrham.
Bromdon. 40d. yearly for pasture.
Herthishewid, held by Walter de Herthishewid doing suit at the court of Hangrham.
His elder son is his next heir, age unknown.

Neweton. The manor (extent given) held of the king in chief by service of 4s. 1d. to be paid at the court of Middelton, and two suits of court at the 'laghedeys' there. The manor is partible as gravelkind, but the said Geoffrey was not seised thereof on the day he died, for Aymer de Lucy his brother had it of his gift to be held of him, service unknown.

The manor, with the hamlets of Frogerbury alias Frogisburi, Busseleye alias Buscele, and Waybrug' (extent given), including the advowsons of the churches of Biflete and Busseleye, 28d. rent of Everesheved, and a pasture called le Couleswe, held of the abbot of Certese in chief for ½ knight's fee, and rendering to the said abbot 15s. for Waybrug' and 1 mark for Busseley, and to Haumund de Gatton 1 mark for Waybrug'.
