Bradeleye. The manor, held jointly with Joan his wife, by fine levied in the king’s court, of the earl Marshal in chief by knight’s service.
He held no other lands &c. as the jury understand.

YORK. Inq. taken at York on Monday the morrow of St. Peter ad Vincula 16 Edward II.
Cokesford. A capital messuage, lands, rent &c. (extent given), held of the king in chief as of the honour of Pontefract, now in the king’s hand, by homage and fealty, and scutage when it runs, and by service of 1/4 knight’s fee; and a carucate of land held of the king, as of the heir of Henry de Percy, a minor and in the king’s wardship, which land together with the manors of Heselwod, Sikelinghale, and Wodhalle, and certain tenements in Adingham and Stutton which John de Rithre holds, are held by homage, fealty and scutage when it runs and by service of a knight’s fee, 40s. yearly rent, and doing suit at the court of Spofford.
Stutton. 4l. 3s. 0d. rent from 4 messuages and 6 bovates of land, and 6a. meadow, held of the heir of Percy by the abovesaid service.
Friston. The manor (extent given), including a ferry (feria) over the water of Ayre, held of the king as of the honour aforesaid, by homage and fealty, and scutage when it runs, and by service of 1/2 knight’s fee, and suit at the court of the said honour.
Elmeshale. 13l. 6s. 8d. yearly rent, held of the king as of the honour aforesaid without doing any certain service.

Dedham. Seven years and more before his death the said John with the king’s licence, demised the manor to Sir Hervey de … . one, clerk, who survives, to hold for his life, with reversion to the said John and his heirs. The manor is held of the king in (chief) as of the honour of Reines by knight’s service.

DERBY. Inq. Tuesday the morrow of St. Lucy, 16 Edward II.
Ekynton. The manor (full extent given), including 9 free tenants called ‘hastelarii,’ held of the king in chief as of the crown by service of a knight’s fee.
Robert his son, aged 7 and more as is said, and born beyond the sea, is his next heir.
NOTTINGHAM. Inq. Thursday after St. Lucy, 16 Edward II.
Kirkeby in Asshefeld. The manor (extent given), including 22 toftmen and cottars, held of the king in chief as of the crown by service of a knight’s fee. And there is payable a rent of 40s. yearly to the prior &c. of Newstead (de Novo Loco) in Seyrwod for wine for celebrating divine service in the church of St. Mary there, with which rent, and 1qr. of corn price 6s. 8d., John de Stotevill, ancestor (triavus) of the said John, charged the said manor in the time of King Henry the king’s grandfather, who confirmed the same in the 29th year of his reign.

418. JOHN DE SANCTO JOHANNE, of Lageham.
Writ, 5 May, 16 Edward II.
Return (from the escheator) that before this writ came to him, Walter de Bello Campo, keeper of the manor of Wodestoke which Queen Isabella holds of the king’s demise, entered upon the manor of Berton, asserting that it is within the precinct of the queen’s hundred of Wotton, and does not permit him to intermeddle with it.
OXFORD. Inq. Thursday before St. Kenelm, 16 Edward II.
Great Bartone. The manor (extent given), held for life, as appears by a fine levied in the king’s court, transcript annexed, together with the manor of Staunton Seint Johan which he formerly held and demised to Master Gilbert de Middelton to hold for life with the king’s licence, of the king in chief by service of a knight’s fee.
John his son, aged 15, is his next heir.
Transcript of the above mentioned fine between the said John and John de Ifeld, dated the quinzaine of Holy Trinity, 14 Edward II., demising the manor of Bartone St. John to the said John de Sancto Johanne for life, with reversion to John his son and Katherine daughter of Geoffrey de Say, and to the heirs of the body of the said John son of John, and remainder to the right heirs of the said John de Sancto Johanne.
BERKS. Inq. 16 June, 16 Edward II.
Swalefeld. The manor (extent given), held, by fine levied in the king’s court in 10 Edward II, by the said John to himself and Margery his wife and the heirs of the said John, of the heir of the earl of Warewyk, a minor and in the king’s wardship, by service of 1/2 knight’s fee.
He died on 23 April. Heir as above.
SURREY. Inq. Sunday 19 June, 16 Edward II.
Wolknestede. The manor (extent given), held, by fine levied in the king’s court in 14 Edward II., between the said John and John de Ifeld, to hold to the said John and Margery his wife and the heirs of the said John, of John de Warblinton, heir of Alice Dammartyn, by service of a pair of gilt spurs or 6d., and the said John de Warblinton holds of the honour of Boulogne, service unknown.
OXFORD. Assignment of dower to Margery late the wife of the said John, Thursday after St. Lucy, 17 Edward II.
Barton. A third part of the manor (extent given with field names and names of tenants).

SUFFOLK. Inq. 29 June, 16 Edward II.
Reydon. The manor, together with divers lands &c. in Brendwenham, Hadleygh, Leyham, Heygham, Holeton, Capele, Little Wenham, and Benetleygh (extent given), held jointly by the said Robert and Margaret his wife, to them and the heirs male of their bodies, by fine levied in the king’s court, of Petronilla de Nerford by service of a knight’s fee.
Wherstede. The manor (extent given), similarly held of Robert de Todenham, as of his manor of Neweton by Ipswich (Gipp’), by service of 1/4 knight’s fee.
He died about the feast of the Purification last.
The said Margaret survives and they have as yet no male issue between them, and on failure of issue all the aforesaid tenements will after her death remain to Walter son of the said Robert and his heirs.

Two parts of the manor (full extent given with names of tenants), including pastures called Childewode, Pykewelleham, and Middelhongyr, and pastures at ‘la Grave’ and Holcomb, and pleas &c. with the foreign hundred, held of the king in chief, service unknown. Margaret Waryn holds a third part of the manor in dower, the reversion whereof is to the heir of the said Walter.
Walter his son, aged 7 at Easter day last, is his next heir.

Sonthhikham. A messuage, 13 bovates of arable land, 100a. marsh, a windmill, a fishery, and 10l. 9s. 1 1/2d. rent, &c., held of the said Thomas Wake by service of a rose yearly.

Chetham. The manor, held for life of the gift of King Edward I, after whose death it descended into the present king’s hand by reversion.
OXFORD. Inq. Monday after St. Barnabas, 16 Edward II.
Godindon. The manor (extent given), including 2a. land in co. Buckingham, held by the grant of King Edward I. to him and the heirs of his body with reversion to the said king and his heirs, of the countess of Lincoln by service of 1/4 knight’s fee.
Heir unknown.
SURREY. Inq. Wednesday after St. Barnabas, 16 Edward II.
Boclonde. The manor (extent given), including the pasture of a wood called Hurteswode, held of the fee of the earldom of Gloucester by service of a knight’s fee. He gave the reversion of the manor, by fine levied in the king’s court, to Sir John Claron who is of full age.
He died on 27 March last.
LINCOLN. Inq. 6 July, 16 Edward II.
Totel. The manor (extent given), including rents in Ryston and Tathewell, held to him and the heirs of his body by fine levied in the king’s court between John de Claroun and the said Guy, with successive remainders to Ralph de Gorges and Eleanor his wife and the heirs of their bodies, and to the right heirs of the said Eleanor.
He died without heir of himself, and the manor is held of the king in chief by service of a knight’s fee.
Gayton, parcel of the said manor. 358a. pasture, a pasture called Halkefen, and 19l. 6s. 8d. rent &c.
ESSEX. Inq. Sunday after St. Barnabas, 16 Edward II.
Rothingge Aytrop. The manor (extent given), held by the enfeoffment of John Bacon, by fine levied in the king’s court, to the said Guy and the heirs of his body, with successive remainders to John de Claron, knight, and the heirs of his body, and to Reginald Lupard and his heirs; which manor together with the advowson of the church, is held of the earl of Oxford in chief by service of 2 knights’ fees.
He died without heir of his body, and the manor has come to the said John de Claron aged 40, who survives.
ESSEX. Inq. Monday after St. Barnabas, 16 Edward II.
Gestingthorp. The manor called Netherehall (full extent given), held of the king in chief by knight’s service. King Edward I. to whom Gilbert Pecche gave the manor, granted it to the said Guy and to the heirs male of his body, with reversion to the said king and his heirs; the said Guy died without heir of his body, and the manor has now come to the king’s hand. And afterwards the said Guy acquired to himself and the heirs male of his body, with remainder to the king and his heirs, 11 1/2a. arable, and rents &c., which are of the fee aforesaid and held by knight’s service as aforesaid.

Benhale. The manor (extent given), held jointly with Eleanor his wife, to them and the heirs of their bodies, by fine levied in the king’s court, with successive remainders to Simon de la Borde and the heirs of his body, and to William de Sancto Quintino and his heirs; and the manor is held in part of the king in chief as of the honour of Eye by service of 1/2 knight’s fee, in part of the earl Marshal as of his manor of Framlingham by service of 1/6 knight’s fee, and in part of the heir of William de Boville as of his manor of Badingham by service of 1/2 knight’s fee.
Hilketlishale. The manor (extent given), held of the king in chief as of the honour of Lancaster by service of 1/2 knight’s fee, by fine levied in the king’s court, to the said Guy and the heirs of his body, with successive remainders to Simon de la Borde and the heirs of his body, to John de Claroun and the heirs of his body, and to the right heirs of the said Guy. And because the said Guy died without heirs of his body, the manor of Benhale wholly remains to the said Eleanor for life, and the manor of Hilketlishale to the said Simon.
Heir unknown because he was born without the realm.
Writ of certiorari on the complaint of Simon de la Borde, nephew and heir of Guy Ferre that whereas King Edward I. gave the said Guy the manor of Godyngdon, co. Oxford, to hold to him and the heirs of his body, and the said Guy afterwards acquired a messuage, 1 carucate and 2 1/2 virgates of land, 9a. meadow, and 4s. rent, to him and his heirs for ever, the escheator after the death of the said Guy without heirs of his body, took the said messuage and land &c. into the king’s hand, as if the reversion, like that of the manor, pertained to the king, 16 April, 17 Edward II.
OXFORD. Inq. 3 May, 17 Edward II.
Godyngdon. The said messuage, land &c. were not in the late king’s seisin when he gave the manor to the said Guy, but the said Guy acquired the same in 9 Edward I. from Godfrey son of Peter and Joan his wife, to himself and his heirs for ever by fine levied in the said king’s court; the said tenements were taken into the king’s hand by the sub-escheator on 1 April, 16 Edward II., on the occasion of the death of the said Guy, and are held of the fee of the earl of Lincoln by service of 1/12 knight’s fee.

Lincoln City. A messuage held of the king in chief by service of 1d. yearly.

LINCOLN. Inq. 1 May, 16 Edward II.
Sotteby. A messuage, 60a. arable, 20a. meadow, and rents, &c. (extent given), held of the king in chief as of the crown by service of finding 3 armed horsemen in the king’s war for forty days at his own charges.
Conyngsby. A messuage, 10a. arable, 15a. meadow, and 5s. rent, held of Henry Hillary and Joan his wife, as of the right of the said Joan, by service of one attendance yearly at their manor of Scrivelby.
Thorgramby. A messuage, 60a. land, 4a. meadow, &c., held of the king in chief as of the crown by service of 1/20 knight’s fee.
Southkyme. A toft held of Isabel de Vescy by service of one attendance yearly at her court of Folkyngham.
He did not die seised in fee of any other lands in the county, for in 2 Edward II. fines were levied in the king’s court between William de Kyme and the said Philip, whereby the manors of Stalyngburgh, Kyme, Croft, Golthagh, Baumb(ur)gh, Calsby, Metheringham, Billyngeye, Mukton, and Immyngham were granted to the said Philip to hold for life, with reversion to the said William and his heirs.

Writ, on the petition of William de Kyme, to enquire whether the said Philip enfeoffed him of certain lands &c. in Sotteby or not, 21 May, 16 Edward II.
LINCOLN. Inq. 7 June, 16 Edward II.
Sotteby. Fourteen years before his death the said Philip enfeoffed William his son with the king’s licence of the manor of Sotteby, to hold to him and his heirs, who continued his seisin thereof until the day of the said Philip’s death. The lands &c. contained in the inquisition returned into the chancery, and no others, pertain to the said manor.

KENT. Inq. Tuesday after the Circumcision, 16 Edward II.
Terlingham. The manor (extent given), held of the king in chief by service of 1/8 and 1/16 knight’s fee, 7s. 6d. for the guard of the castle of Dover, and 10s. by the hands of the sheriff for the king’s portion of the hundred of Folkestane.
Folkestane. The hundred held of the said Joan, with John de Segrave and Juliana his wife as of the right of the said Juliana, of the king as pertaining to the said manor.
Joan, the wife of Walter de Pateshulle, aged 26 and more, and Agnes the wife of Thomas de Ponynges, aged 23 and more, are her next heirs.
Totyngtone. The manor (extent given), held for life, by the gift of John de Rokesle to her and the said Richard to hold to them and the heirs of the said Richard, in part of Isabella queen of England, of Ledes as of the honour of Crouker, by service of 1/4 knight’s fee, and the rest of Aymer (Odimaro) de Walencia by two parts of a knight’s fee, and there are due 3s. yearly for the guard of the castle of Rochester, 10s. yearly to Richard de Grey, and 20d. to the heirs of William Peverel.
Horsmunden. The manor (extent given), held for life of William de Ore by service of a cap (capellam) of peacocks’ feathers, by the gift of Anthony de Beck, sometime bishop of Durham, to the said Joan and Richard and the heirs of the said Richard.
Westwode. Two parts of the manor (extent given), held in dower by the assignment of the said Walter and Thomas, in lieu of dower out of the manors of Rokesle and Westwode. The whole manor is held by two parts of a knight’s fee of Ledes as of the honour of Crouker, and by suit of court, of the abbot of Faveresham by service of 62s. and suit of court, and of the prior of Christ Church Canterbury by 6s. 11d.

YORK. Inq. Tuesday after St. Barnabas, 16 Edward II.
Eskrik. The manor (extent given), including pastures called ‘le Estker’ and ‘le Westker,’ held in dower of the inheritance of the heirs, Joan, Avis, Maud and Ralph, excepting 5 tofts, 8a. land, a close called Prestriding, and two woods called Holaik hurst and ‘le Lund,’ of the abbot of St. Mary’s, York, by service of 30s., and suit of court.
Kirkeby under Knoll. The manor (extent given), held in dower of the inheritance of the said heirs, of Geoffrey de Upsale by service of 26s. 8d. yearly.
Ellerton. The manor, held for life in fee tail of the inheritance of the said Avis, Maud and Ralph, of Ralph de Graistok without any certain service.
Joan, late the wife of Thomas de Colewenn, Avis whom Robert le Conestable married, aged 40, and Maud, late the wife of Robert Tilliol, aged 36, daughters of the said Isabel and Roger de Lauceles, and Ralph, aged 24, son of Theophania late the wife of Ralph son of Ran[ulph], another daughter, are heirs of the said Roger and Isabel; but the said Joan lately enfeoffed Simon Ward of her pourparty of the manors of Eskrik and Kirkeby, and he enfeoffed Roger Damory, by whose forfeiture it ought to remain to the king as escheat.
