SALOP.	Inq. taken at Neuport, 10 November, 21 Edward III.
	Sontford. The hamlet (extent given), including two parts of three water-mills and three fishponds, held of the king in chief by service of half a knight’s fee. Agnes his mother, who survives, holds the third part of the said water-mills and fishponds as dower. He died in parts beyond the seas, on Tuesday before St. Michael last. Nicholas de Sontford, his son, aged 13 years at the feast of St. Michael last, is his heir.

30.	WILLIAM DE BELNE.

WARWICK.	Inq. 6 October, 21 Edward III.
	Bentleye. A messuage and two virgates of land, held of Thomas le Courson, by service of 3d. and a barbed arrow yearly. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on 28 September last. Thomas de Belne, his brother, aged 40 years and more at Easter day last, is his heir.

WORCESTER.	Inq. taken at Le Blakegreve by Kyngesnorton, Friday before SS. Simon and Jude, 21 Edward III.
	Le Blakegreve by Kyngesnorton. A messuage called le Blakegreve and 40a. land, 4a. meadow and a several pasture held of the king in chief by service of 22s. yearly payable at the exchequer. Kyngesnorton. A messuage and 30a. land, held of Roger de Mortuo Mari by service of 14s. yearly. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on Thursday before St. Michael. Heir as above, aged 43 years.

31.	WILLIAM DE LA PLAUNK.
	Writ, 8 September, 21 Edward III.
WILTS.	Inq. taken at Compton Caumberleyn on Thursday after St. Michael, 21 Edward III.
	William de la Plaunk was not seised of any lands &c. in the county on the day he died. Date of death and heir not known.
	Writ, 8 September, 21 Edward III.
LEICESTER.	Inq. made at Lutterworth, 3 November, 21 Edward III.
	Claybrok. He lately held a messuage, a carucate of land, a windmill, and 10 marks rent, of William la Zouche of Haryngworth by service of a quarter of a knight’s fee; but half a year before he died he alienated the same in fee to Roger de Elyngton, Roger Huwet, and Roger Basset, and their heirs for ever; so that he held no lands &c. in the county on the day he died. He died on 5 September last. His daughters, Katherine aged 4 years and more at the feast of St. Michael last, and Joan aged 2 1/2 years at the feast of the Assumption last, are his heirs.

BUCKINGHAM.	Inq. taken at Haversham, Tuesday after the Translation of St. Edward the king, 21 Edward III.
	Haversham. Two parts of the manor (full extent given), including a watermill demised to farm by William de la Plaunke, father of the said William, to Hugh le Smyth and Custancia his wife, and William their son, for the life of the longest liver of them, held of the king in chief, as of the honor of Peverell, by service of two parts of a knight’s fee. The king’s bailiffs of the said honour have view of frankpledge there twice a year. He held no other lands &c. in the bailiwick, so far as the jury can enquire. He died on Saturday after the Exaltation of the Holy Cross last. Heirs as above, Katherine aged 5 years, and Joan aged 4 years, at present, but Elizabeth late his wife is pregnant, as is said.
	Writ to the escheator in co. Buckingham to assign to the said Elizabeth, who has taken her oath not to marry without the king’s licence, her reasonable dower of the lands &c. late of the said William in the escheator’s bailiwick, in the presence of Roger Hillary, to whom the king committed the custody of two parts of all the said lands &c. until the lawful age of the said William’s heirs, 8 November, 21 Edward III.
BUCKINGHAM.	Assignment of dower, 12 November, 21 Edward III. (mutilated).
	Haveresham. A third part of two parts of the manor (details given), including a messuage, a chamber beyond the gate, with a soler and houses and a small close, …, a third part of the grange towards the church, and of the adjacent barton, the middle stable, with a small herbarium opposite the door of the hall, and a third part of the orchard with the fish-pond there; and divers selions and butts of land (extent given with field-names and names of tenants), including five selions in the field by the dower of Hawise the wife of John de Lye, and divers selions &c. in Estfeld and Little Stockyng.

32.	MAUD, LATE THE WIFE OF ROGER DE BEDEFELD.
	Writ, 18 August, 21 Edward III.
MIDDLESEX.	Inq. taken at the broken cross (crucem fractam) without the bar of the New Temple, London, Friday the feast of St. Clement, 21 Edward III.
	Blemondesbury. The said Roger, Maud his wife, and Nicholas their son, acquired jointly, to themselves, their heirs and assigns, from one William Pycot, lands, &c., called Blemondesbury, viz., a messuage, 100a. land, 18a. pasture, and 33s. rent, with the king’s charter of licence. Kentisshtoun. 50a. land, 3a. pasture, and 5s. rent similarly acquired of the same William, held of the heirs of Henry Bedyk, by service of 8s. yearly. The said Roger died; after his death the said Maud and Nicholas held jointly all the said lands, &c. Afterwards the said Maud, of full age, and the said Nicholas, aged 9 years and no more, enfeoffed William de Lavenham, for his life, of all the said lands, &c. with the king’s licence, with reversion to them and their heirs. Afterwards the said Nicholas, being under age, re-entered on the moiety of all the lands, &c., formerly alienated by himself, and continued his estate therein, and died so seised, and the said William de Lavenham continued his estate in the other moiety of all the said lands, &c., and still holds it. The said Maud, after the said Roger’s death, enfeoffed the said William, for his life, of a messuage and 2a. land in the parish of St. Giles of the Lepers (Leprosorum), with reversion to her and her heirs; which messuage and land are held of the prior of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem in England by service of 3s. yearly. She held no lands, &c., in the county on the day she died. The said lands &c. called Blemondesbury are held of the king in chief by service of a quarter of a knight’s fee and a sore sparrowhawk yearly at the exchequer, or 2s. She died on Friday next before St. Peter’s Chains last; and the said Nicholas died on Wednesday before Christmas day last. Roger, son of the said Roger and Maud, and brother of the said Nicholas, aged 7 years on Tuesday in Easter week last, is their heir in blood. The reversion of all the said lands, &c., which William de Lavenham holds for his life, as aforesaid, belongs to the said Roger son of Roger, brother of the said Nicholas, as right heir of the said Maud and Nicholas.

33.	NICHOLAS SON OF ROGER DE BEDEFELD.
	Writ, 18 November, 21 Edward III.
ESSEX.	Inq. taken at Stratford, Tuesday before St. Andrew, 21 Edward III.
	Leyton. Maud, late the wife of the said Roger, and Nicholas their son, held jointly as of fee after the said Roger’s death, of the king 15a. meadow in Leyton, of the grant of William Pycot, who gave the same to the said Roger, Maud and Nicholas, their heirs and assigns, and confirmed the same by his charter; with the king’s licence. The said Maud, of full age, and the said Nicholas, aged 9 years and no more, enfeoffed one William de Lavenham of the said meadow, for his life, with the king’s licence, with reversion to the said Maud and Nicholas. And the said Nicholas, being under age, afterwards reentered on the moiety of the said meadow formerly alienated by himself, and continued his estate in the same, and died so seised in his demesne as of fee. The said William de Lavenham held the other moiety and still holds it. The said Maud held no lands, &c., in the county on the day she died, except the reversion of the moiety of the said meadow, which the said William de Lavenham holds. The said meadow is held of the king in chief, as parcel of the lands, &c., of Blemondesbury, which are held of the king in chief, by service of a quarter of a knight’s fee, and a sore sparrowhawk yearly, payable at the exchequer. The said Maud died on Friday before St. Peter’s Chains last, and the said Nicholas died on Wednesday before Christmas day last. Roger, son of the said Roger and Maud, and brother of the said Nicholas, aged 7 years on Tuesday in Easter week last, and no more, is their heir in blood.

34.	JOHN MAUDUYT, of Somerford.

OXFORD.	Inq. taken at Stanlake, 27 September, 21 Edward III.
	Broghton, Netherfilkynge and Stanlake. The manor of Broghton, a messuage and a carucate of land in Netherfilkynge, and a fourth part of the town of Stanlake, held jointly with Agnes his wife, by fine levied in the king’s court; whereof the manor is held of the king in chief by service of 13s. 4d. payable at the exchequer by the hands of the sheriff of Oxford; the said messuage and land in Netherfilkynge are held of John de Odyngseles by service of 1d. yearly; and the fourth part of Stanlake is held of the countess of Aumale by service of a quarter of a knight’s fee. He died on 21 August last. John Mauduyt his son, aged 15 years, is his heir.

WILTS.	Inq. taken at Calne on Monday after the Nativity of the Blessed Mary, 21 Edward III.
	Somerford Mauduyt and Whytele. The manors (extents given), and the advowsons of the church of Somerford Mauduyt and of the chapel of Whytele, and also a messuage, two carucates of land, 6a. meadow, 5s. rent in Farnhull, held jointly with Agnes his wife and the heirs male of their bodies, by fine levied in the king’s court. Fontel Gyffard. A messuage, two virgates of land, 1/2a. meadow (extent given), and the advowson of the church, held jointly with John Inge, knight, with remainder after their deaths to the right heirs of the said John Mauduyt. The manor of Somerford Mauduyt is held of the abbot and convent of Malmesbury by service of the third part of a knight’s fee; the manor of Whytele is held of Robert de Lyle of the Isle of Wight by service of half a knight’s fee; and the messuages in Farnhull and Fontel are held of Robert de Maundevyle by service of an eighth part of a knight’s fee. He died on Tuesday after the Assumption, 21 Edward III. Heir as above.

35.	EDWARD ATTE WODE.
	Writ, 12 March, 21 Edward III.
STAFFORD.	Inq. taken at Kynefare, 8 May, 21 Edward III.
	Kynefare and Storton. The king by letters patent, granted licence to Henry de Mortuo Mari, who then held for his life the custody of the manors of Kynefare and Storton and of the forest of Kynefare by the king’s grant, to grant the estate which he had in the same to Edward atte Wode and his heirs for the life of the said Henry, rendering to the king and his heirs at the exchequer the farm due from the said Henry, for his life, and from the heir of Hugh Tyrel, a minor in the king’s wardship, to whom the said custody belongs in fee after the death of the said Henry by the king’s grant. The king further granted to the said Edward that, if Henry should die during the minority of the said heir, then the said Edward should hold the custody until such lawful age, and if the said heir should die before attaining such age, his heir being a minor, then the said Edward should hold the said custody until the lawful age of such minor, and so from heir to heir, until one of the heirs should attain to the full age for rendering the said farm to the king. The said Henry still survives, and the said manor and custody of the forest are held of the king in chief by service of 9l. yearly, payable at the Exchequer by his own hands. He died at Chastelgyoun in parts beyond the seas before the feast of St. Michael last, on what day the jurors know not. Margaret his daughter, now aged 7 weeks, is his heir.

WESTMORELAND.	Inq. taken at Kirkby in Kendale on Wednesday after St. Luke, 21 Edward III.
	Bethom. Two messuages, 2a. land, a corn-mill, and a fulling mill, held of Ralph de Bethom by fealty and by service of 1d. and a rose yearly. Preston. A messuage and 7a. land, held of the abbot of Shapp by fealty and by service of 2s. yearly. Bananddesdale. 2s. 6d. yearly rent issuing from a moiety of a several pasture, by the hands of Roger de Lancastre. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on Monday after St. Michael last. John son of Adam son of the said John, aged 5 years and more, is his heir.
LANCASTER.	Inq. taken at Lancaster on Tuesday after St. Luke, 21 Edward III.
	Warton. A messuage and 60a. land in a place called Tewlutmyre held of the king in chief, as of the lands late of William de Coucy now in the king’s hand, by homage, fealty, and by suit at the court of Warton every three weeks, and by service of grinding (molendi) the corn growing on the said land at the mill of Warton for (ad) the thirteenth grain, (fn. 1) and by service of 2 1/2d. yearly. Kellet. A messuage and a bovate of land, held of William de Dacre by service of a rose yearly. Hoton. A messuage and 6a. land, held of the parson of the church of Warton by fealty and service of a rose yearly. Dalton. A messuage and a bovate of land, held of John de Croft of Dalton by service of a rose yearly. He held no other lands &c. in the county. Date of death and heir as above.

	[Bukyngton. The manor] (extent given), including the advowson of the church, which is below the taxation (taxam) and extent of churches…. Rapelyngheghes and Vincentisheghes. A messuage, 40a. arable, 2a. meadow and 2s. 10d. yearly from three free tenants, held for his life of Henry de Welyngton, knight as of his manor of Gydesham, by knight’s service. La Forde. A messuage, 40a. arable, and 40a. waste, held as of the right of Emma his wife, of John de Monte Acuto, lord of Stoke Inhamme, by knight’s service. Clist St. Mary. A messuage &c., 40a. arable, 4a. meadow, and a moiety of an (unius) advowson of a church there, which is below the taxation (taxam) and extent of churches, held as of the right of Emma his wife, of Thomasia, late the wife of John de Chuddelegh, by knight’s service, as of her manor of Ayssherston. He died on Tuesday after St. Katherine, 21 Edward III. By the grant of Ralph le Arblaster, Joel de Bukyngton, aged 28 years and more, is next to obtain the said manor of Bukyngton, with the keepership of the said gaol.

	Bukyngton. The manor (extent given) with the advowson of the church, held of the king in chief (by) keeping the king’s gaol in Exeter and all the prisoners therein, for bis life, by the grant of Ralph le Arblaster. The advowson of the church is below the taxation and extent of churches.

NORTHUMBERLAND.	Inq. taken at Newcastle-upon-Tyne, 5 April, 21 Edward III.
	Bolbek. A moiety of the barony, held of the king in chief, by homage and fealty, and by service of 33s. 4d. yearly at the exchequer of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and of 16s. yearly at the same exchequer for cornage. Boteland. A fourth part of the town, held of Sir Gilbert de Umframvill, earl of Angus (Danegos), by homage and fealty and by service of suit at his court of Ovyngeham every three weeks and 6s. 8d. yearly. Benerigg with Overgares, held of the heir of David de Strabolgy, late earl of Attholl, a minor in the king’s wardship, as of the barony of Mitford, by homage and fealty, and by service of 6d. yearly for castle ward, and 22d. yearly to the said heir. Edreston and a third part of Neuton on the Moor, held of Sir Henry, earl of Lancaster, as of his manor of Emeldon, by service of 6d. He died on 8 March last, as the jurors understand. Robert de Herle, knight, is his heir and of full age.

Luytel Assheby. 10l. yearly rent held of the prior of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem in England by service of 1d. yearly. Leycester. A messuage held of the earl of Leycester by service of 2s. yearly. Donynton on the Heath (super Brueram). A messuage, a carucate of land, and 10s. rent, held of the prior of Charle by service of 10s. yearly. Kerby. A messuage, two virgates of land, 6a. meadow, and 40a. wood, held of Simon Pakeman by service of a tenth part of a knight’s fee, 3d. yearly and 1lb. pepper. Whitewyk. 40.	NICHOLAS DE CANCELLIS, of Upton.
	Writ, 12 April, 21 Edward III.
NORTHAMPTON.	Inq. taken at Northampton, Monday before St. Mark, 21 Edward III.
	Upton. The manor (extent given), including the agistment of a pasture called ‘le Hay,’ a several fishery, 10 marks yearly rent from tenants holding by ancient plea of the crown, perquisites of court, with the profit of the bailiwick of the hundred of Neubotlegrave, and 3s. yearly rent of free tenants in Herleston, held for life of the gift of William son of Ralph de Upton, chaplain, whom the said Nicholas had previously enfeoffed, with successive remainders to Nicholas son of Walter Parles, and Rose his wife and the heirs of their bodies, and to the right heirs of the said Nicholas de Cancellis. The said manor is held of the king in chief, by service of finding an armed man in the king’s army for forty days within the four seas of England at his own charges, and of finding a man to serve the writs of the sheriff of Northampton in the hundred of Neubotlegrave, and the lord of the said manor shall pay yearly to the said sheriff, for the profit of the said hundred, 13s. 4d., and for a certain alienated serjeanty, 12s.; and for a water-mill called Upton Mulne, which the abbot of St. James’s now holds, he renders 40s. He died on 11 April last. Nicholas son of Walter Parles, aged 21 years and more, is his heir in the form aforesaid.

41.	JOHN DE BURDELEYS, knight (chivaler), SON AND HEIR OF JOHN DE BURDELEYS, who held of the king in chief, a minor in the king’s wardship.
	Writ, 20 August, 21 Edward III.
CAMBRIDGE.	Inq. taken at Cambridge, 17 September, 21 Edward III.
	Cumberton. The manor (extent given), including several ruinous buildings, whereof 10a. land are held of the king in chief, as of the fee of Heved, by knight’s service, and the residue is held of the king, as of the fee of Peche, by knight’s service. Cotenham. The manor (extent given), held of the king, as of the fee of Peche, by knight’s service. Maddyngle. Two parts of the manor (extent given), held of the king, as of the fee of Peche, by knight’s service. All came into the king’s hand by reason of the minority of the said John. He died on Thursday, the eve of St. Lawrence last. His sisters, Elizabeth aged 28 years and more, whom Thomas Marescal married, and Joan aged 25 years and more, whom Gilbert de la Chaumbre married, are his heirs.

BEDFORD.	Inq. taken at Bedeford on Monday after the feast of St. Michael, 21 Edward III.
	Stachesden. A messuage &c., 211a. arable, 1 1/2a. of hard and dry meadow, 11a. wood, 3 1/2a. hard several pasture and 9s. 1 1/2d. yearly rent of free tenants came to the hands of the king for the above reason, and no lands, &c., came to the hands of others. None of the said lands, &c., are held of the king in chief; but the said messuage &c., 183 1/2a. arable, 3 1/2a. pasture, 11a. wood, 9s. 1d. rent, are held of the abbot of Wardon by service of homage and fealty and 2lb. cummin yearly; 1a. land and 1 1/2a. meadow are held of John Gemys by service of fealty, 1 1/2d. yearly and suit of the said John’s court at Stachesden every three weeks; 80a. land are held of Elizabeth la Latymer by service of fealty and 2s. 1d. yearly; and 2 1/2a. land are held of Martin le Eyr by service of fealty and 1d. yearly. Date of death as above. Heirs, his sisters Elizabeth and Joan, aged as above.

	Endorsed ‘A day was given at Norwich, on Tuesday after the Nativity of the Blessed Mary. By the sheriff.’
NORFOLK.	Inq. taken at Norwich, 11 December, 21 Edward III.
	Sculton. A capital messuage &c., 160a. land, 4a. meadow, 12a. pasture, 50a. wood, a ruinous windmill and 35s. rent of free tenants, six customary tenants whose rents and services are worth 13s. 4d., perquisities of court &c. worth 6s. 8d., held of the king in chief by service of doing the office of larderer at the king’s coronation. The said tenements are now in the hand of Walter de Kreyk by the king’s demise. He died on 9 August last. Heirs as above, aged 30 years and 24 years and more respectively and both married.
	Writ to the escheator in co. Bedford. The king having received the fealty of Thomas Mareschal, who married Elizabeth, and of Gilbert de la Chaumbre, who married Joan, sisters and heirs of the said John son of John, for the pourparties of the said Elizabeth and Joan of the lands, &c. which John Burdeleys the father held of the king in chief, and having postponed the homage of the said Thomas and Gilbert until his return to England, has restored the said pourparties and orders the escheator to take security for their reasonable relief, make partition of the said lands into two equal parts and to cause them to have full seisin thereof, saving the reasonable dower of Maud, late the wife of the said John son of John, to be assigned to her. 5 October, 21 Edward III.
	Notification by the escheator in co. Bedford that a partition of the said lands, &c., has been made between the said parties, according to a spontaneous agreement between them; viz. the said Thomas and Elizabeth to have the manors of Cotenham and Madyngle, co. Cambridge, saving to the said Gilbert and Joan a moiety of the knights’ fees of the said manor of Madyngle, and the said Gilbert and Joan to have the manor of Cumberton, co. Cambridge and the manor of Stachesden, co. Bedford, together with the above moiety of knights’ fees. The said manor of Stachesden has therefore been delivered by the escheator to the said Gilbert and Joan according to the aforesaid agreement. (Undated.) Partition of the manor of Scultone, co. Norfolk; viz., the aforesaid Thomas and Elizabeth to have one moiety, and the aforesaid Gilbert and Joan the other moiety, as more fully appears in an indenture voluntarily made between them. (Undated.) Partition of the lands, &c. late of the said John son of John, in co. Cambridge, 24 October, 21 Edward III, between the said Thomas and Elizabeth, and Gilbert and Joan, by voluntary agreement, viz.: the said Thomas and Elizabeth to have the manors of Cotenham and Maddyngle, with 2 1/2a. land in Hokyton belonging to the latter manor, except a a moiety of the knights’ fees belonging to the same manor, also 5a. land of the fee of Heved in Cumberton, which are held of the king in chief; and the said Gilbert and Joan to have the manor of Cumberton with the 5a. and 2 1/2a. land above-mentioned, and a moiety of the said knights’ fees pertaining to the same manor, also the manor of Stachisden, co. Bedford. The escheator has caused the parties to have seisin.

SURREY.	Inq. taken at Suthwerk, 19 November, 21 Edward III.
	Suthwerk. A plot of land called Bordich, held of the king in chief by service of rendering 1d. yearly at the exchequer, as by the king’s charter shewn more fully appears. Waleworth. 1 1/2a. land held of the prior of Canterbury by service of 6d. yearly, and suit at the court of Waleworth every three weeks. Suthwerk. 	Kynore in the parish of Sydelesham. A capital messuage, lands, rent &c. (extent given), including a yearly rent of 10s. 8d. from a third part which Eva de Sancto Johanne holds at Kynore for her life in dower, held of the king in chief by service of a quarter of a knight’s fee, as of the heirs of Edmund de Sancto Johanne, minors in the king’s wardship; which said quarter of a knight’s fee, together with other knights’ fees in the county, which were of the inheritance of the said Edmund, were taken into the king’s hand through the said Edmund’s death, and so remain, because the heirs of the said Edmund have not sued their right thereto. Chichester. A yearly rent of 10s. from a certain tenement, which Walter de Offham holds for his life; which tenement and rent are held of John Taverner by service of 5s. yearly. 	Minstre Lovel. 	Tychemersh. The manor (full extent given), including a capital messuage enclosed like a castle with water and a stone wall, meadows called Rorholm on the bank of the Nene, and ‘le Hay,’ several pastures called Claburghslade, Mikelburghslade, Assewelleslade, Milneholm and Pappelode, a wood called Bollax, a fishery in the river Nene, several, except that the parson of Tychemersh, Henry de Tychemersh, and the heir of Ralph de Tychemersh may (debent) fish with a ‘shofnet’ with a pole 12 feet long standing on the land, a day’s work to be done by the heirs of Simon de Mulleworth for the lord in autumn with six men, worth 12d., a boon and a bedripe done by the land of Sylvyn for two days with one man, worth 3d., the tenant of that land going before (ultra) all the reapers at the lord’s food, and the same work to be done by William Leyr and Henry Hervy; together with the reversions of certain yearly rents of 6l. 16d. which Richard Duffe holds for his life, of the grant of the said John Lovel, 24s. 8d. which Robert de Hele similarly holds for his life, and 2s. which Agnes la Lavender similarly holds for her life. The manor is held of the heir of Edmund Peverel, a minor in the wardship of Henry, earl of Lancaster, by service of two knights’ fees. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He held no other lands &c. in the county, because the two parts of the manor of Chyriton, which he held of the king in chief by knight’s service, he granted to one Roger Page of Sparkeford and Alice his wife for their lives at a rent of 12 marks yearly. Date of death and heir not known, because he did not die within the bailiwick, and had no heir of himself within the bailiwick.

The said Herbert and Margery had the manor by fine levied in the king’s court at York, on the quinzaine of St. Michael, 12 Edward III, to hold to them and the heirs of their bodies. 	A fine was levied in the king’s court between Herbert de Sancto Quintino, father of the said Herbert, and Robert bishop of Salisbury, and Nicholas le Mareschal, parson of the church of Staunton, touching the manors of Brandesburton, Wodehall, and Mapelton, whereof a plea of covenant was summoned between them in the same court, viz., that the said Herbert acknowledged the said manors of Brandesburton and Wodehall to be the right of the said bishop, as of the gift of the said Herbert to the said bishop and Nicholas; and for that fine and agreement, the said bishop and Nicholas granted the said manors to the said Herbert, for his life with the reversion of the manor of Mapelton, which Robert de Cotum and Lucy his wife held for the life of the said Lucy of the inheritance of the said bishop; with remainder to Herbert his son, and Margery his wife, and the heirs of their bodies, and contingent remainder to the right heirs of the said Herbert de Sancto Quintino, knight. Brandesburton. The manor (extent given), held jointly with Margery his wife of the king in chief, as of the honour of Aumale, by service of two parts and half a knight’s fee, and doing suit at the king’s wapentake of Holdernesse every three weeks, and rendering to the king 4s. yearly for the ward of the castle of Skipse. Wodhall. The manor, held jointly as above, of the king in chief, as of the same honour, by service of a seventh part of a knight’s fee, and doing suit at the said wapentake every three weeks; which manor Lora, late the wife of Herbert, the father, holds for her life as dower, by the assignment of the said Herbert and Margery his wife, the reversion whereof belongs to the said Margery and the heirs aforesaid by virtue of the fine. Mapelton. The manor, held jointly as above, of the king in chief, as of the same honour, by service of a sixth part of a knight’s fee; which manor Lucy, late the wife of Robert de Cotum, now holds for her life of the inheritance of the aforesaid bishop of Salisbury, of the said Margery. Rosse. Eight carucates of land held by the heir of William de Ros of Hamelak, knight, of the said Herbert, and Margery his wife, by foreign service, as of the said manor of Brandesburton. He held no other lands &c. within the liberty. He died on Saturday the eve of Whitsunday last. Heirs as above, aged 7 years and 5 years respectively.
	Commission of certiorari to Thomas de Rokeby, escheator, co. York, Thomas de Haukeston, and Richard de Neswyk, referring to the preceding inquisition; but because the king understands that the said Herbert held divers other lands &c., within the said liberty, of which no mention is made in the inquisition, and elsewhere in the county, of the king in chief, they are to make inquisition concerning the same. YORK; LIBERTY OF HOLDERNESS.	Inq. taken at Hedon on Sunday the feast of St. Margaret, 22 Edward III.
	Brandesburton. The manor, held jointly with Margery his wife, who still survives, except two carucates of land and the services and rents of the following free tenants, which were at one time parcel of the said manor, but the said Margery was not conjoined therein on the day of the said Herbert’s death, and so he was then sole tenant thereof, viz. Brandesburton. 4d. rent and 1lb. pepper yearly from a messuage and four bovates of land which Robert de Burton held of the said Herbert, by homage, scutage, foreign service, and by the service aforesaid. La More and Begham. The service of Roger de Mora for a carucate of land in la More and four bovates of land in Begham, which he held by homage, scutage, and foreign service. Brandesburton. 8s. rent yearly from four bovates of land, held by the same Roger de la More by fealty and by service of the said 8s. yearly. Bristill. 2s. rent yearly from two messuages and six bovates of land, held by William de Bristill, by homage, scutage, and foreign service. Thurkelby. Homage and service from two carucates of land held by the heir of Walram de Rocheford. Douthorp. The same from two carucates of land held by Roger Dole by homage, scutage, and foreign service. Ros. The homage, scutage, and foreign service issuing from a moiety of the site of the manor, and from four carucates of land in Ros in Holdernesse, held by William, son and heir of William de Ros of Hamelak; but Margery, late the wife of William de Ros of Hamelak, deceased, holds the same as dower, of the inheritance of the said William son of William. All held of the king in chief, as of the honour of Aumale, by knight’s service, the said Margery not being conjoined therein.
