Saturday, September 1. Present:—Earl of Halifax, Mr. Grenville, Lord Dupplin, Mr. Pitt.
Virginia.
Read a letter from Colonel Lee, President of the Council and Commander in Chief of Virginia, to the Board, dated at Williamsburgh, the 12th of June, 1750.
Ordered that an extract be made of the above letter, as relates to the fortifications and to Indian affairs, to be transmitted to his Grace the Duke of Bedford, and the draught of a letter to his Grace accordingly having been prepared, was laid before the Board, agreed to, transcribed and signed.
Ordered that the draught of a letter to Colonel Lee in answer to the abovementioned letter and to a former one, dated the 11th of May last, be prepared.
Barbados.
Ordered that the draught of a letter to Mr. Grenville, Governor of Barbados, in answer to those received from him since the Board's last letter, be prepared.
New York.
Ordered that the draught of a letter to Mr. Clinton, Governor of New York, in answer to those received from him since the Board's last letter, be prepared.
Jamaica.
Ordered that the draught of a letter to Mr. Trelawney, Governor of Jamaica, in answer to several received from him since the Board's last letter, be prepared.
New Jersey.
Ordered that the draught of a letter to Mr. Belcher, Governor of New Jersey, in answer to those received from him since the Board's last letter, be prepared.
North Carolina.
Ordered that the draught of a letter to Mr. Johnston, Governor of North Carolina, in answer to those received from him since the Board's last letter, be prepared.
The several draughts above-mentioned having been accordingly prepared, were agreed to, transcribed and signed.

Nova Scotia.
Read the following letters and papers received from the
Honourable Edward Cornwallis, Governor of Nova Scotia,
viz.:—
Letter from Colonel Cornwallis, Governor of Nova Scotia,
to the Board, dated at Halifax, the 10th of July, 1750,
transmitting several papers, viz.:—
A general abstract of monthly disbursements on account
of the colony of Nova Scotia and of salaries to officers
on the establishment.
A journal of the proceedings of the detachment under
the command of Major Lawrence, after entering the
basin of Chi[co]necto, in April, 1750.
Copy of a letter from Governor Cornwallis to Mr. Thomas
Hancock at Boston, dated at Halifax, the 30th of
April, 1750.
Copy of a letter from Governor Cornwallis to Messrs.
Hancock and Apthorp at Boston, dated at Halifax,
the 7th of June, 1750.
Nova Scotia.
Copy of a letter from Governor Cornwallis to Messrs.
Delancy and Watts at New York, dated at Halifax,
the 6th of July, 1750.
An account of the distribution of twenty-three casks of
shoes sent over with his Majesty's stores to Nova
Scotia.
A daily return of artificers and labourers and the several
works at which they are employed; dated July 10th,
1750.
Minutes of Council, from the 23rd February, 1749–50,
to the 6th July, 1750.
Naval Office lists of ships and vessels entered and cleared,
from the 25th of December, 1749, to the 24th March
following.
Letter from Colonel Cornwallis, Governor of Nova Scotia,
dated at Halifax, the 16th July, 1750, acquainting the
Board what Bills of Exchange he had drawn on Mr. Kilby,
upon account of the colony.
Letter from Mr. Davidson to Lord Viscount Dupplin, dated
at Halifax, the 20th of July, 1750.
Ordered that an extract be made of such parts of Mr. Cornwallis's letter of the 10th of July, as relates to the present state of affairs in that province, to be transmitted to his Grace the Duke of Bedford, and the draught of a letter accordingly having been prepared, was laid before the Board, agreed to, transcribed and signed.
Ordered that the Secretary do deliver a copy of Mr. Cornwallis's letter of the 16th of July, containing advice of the Bills drawn, to Mr. Kilby, agent for the affairs of the province.
Read a letter from Mr. Dick, merchant at Rotterdam, dated the 8th of September, N.S., 1750, inclosing the draught of an advertisement.
Ordered that the Secretary do write to Mr. Dick and acquaint him that he must not publish any advertisement, relating to encouragement to be given to foreign protestants untill the Board have received a proper authority for that purpose, which they will soon apply for.

Plantations General.
Read the following letter and papers from Messrs. Shirley and
Mildmay, his Majesty's Commissaries at the Court of France,
viz.:—
Letter from Messrs. Shirley and Mildmay to the Board,
dated (August 22nd–September 2nd), 1750, containing an
account of their first conference with the commissaries of
his most Christian Majesty.
Letter from Messrs. Shirley and Mildmay to the Board,
dated August 28th–September 8th, 1750, containing a
further account of their proceedings with the commissaries
of his most Christian Majesty.
Plantations General.
Letter from Messrs. Shirley and Mildmay to the Board,
dated the 5–16th September, 1750, desiring copies of some
papers whereof they had received only extracts.
Letter from Mr. Shirley to the Board, dated at Paris, the
4th September, N.S., 1750, transmitting copies of two
maps of North America, published in France in the years
1703 and 1722.
Ordered that the Secretary do cause copies to be made of the several papers desired by the commissaries, except the two last mentioned in the list enclosed in their letter, and to transmit the same by the first opportunity, taking care that the titles are added in the general list of papers transmitted to them.
Ordered that the draught of a letter to the commissaries, in answer to the above-mentioned letters from them, be prepared.

Read a letter from Mr. Spence to Mr. Hill, inclosing an extract of one from the chief agents at James Fort, Gambia, to the Court of Assistants of the Royal African Company of England, dated James Fort, the 13th June, 1750, relating to a settlement which the French are endeavouring to make at Albreda in the River Gambia.
Ordered that a copy be made of the above-mentioned letter and paper to be transmitted to his Grace the Duke of Bedford, and the draught of a letter to his Grace be accordingly prepared.
Jamaica.
Read a letter from Mr. Trelawney, Governor of Jamaica, to the Board, dated the 29th of May, 1750, recommending Henry Needham, Esquire, to supply a vacancy in the Council of Jamaica by the death of Colonel Rodon.
Ordered that the draught of a representation to their Excellencies the Lords Justices be prepared, proposing that Henry Needham, Esquire, may be appointed one of the Council of Jamaica in the room of Colonel Rodon, and the draught of a representation having been accordingly prepared, was laid before the Board and signed.

The draught of a letter to the commissaries at the Court of France having been prepared, pursuant to the preceding day's minutes, was laid before the Board, agreed to, transcribed and signed.
