ACTA OF WILLIAM COURTENAY, BISHOP OF LONDON, 1375–81

547. Memorandum that on 1 December 1375 William bishop of London appeared in person before William bishop of Winchester in his manor of Esher, Winchester diocese, and showed the bishop of Winchester his bull of translation, dated 13 September 1375, addressed to the bishops of Winchester and Rochester ordering them to receive the oath of obedience of the new bishop of London in order to spare him the journey to the curia. Thereupon the new bishop took the oath of obedience to the holy see in the form prescribed in the bull. [Reg. Wykeham i f.68v]
