Upon reading the Petition of Sir John Ayton Gentleman Usher attending this House, John Browne Esquire Clerk of the Parliaments, and Humphrey Leigh Serjeant at Arms; complaining, "That whereas Edward Lloyd, John Cade, and John Wright, were, in July 1663, sentenced, and had Judgement pronounced against them, to be imprisoned in The Fleete, there to remain during His Majesty's Pleasure, for being privy to, and signing and publishing, a false, odious, and infamous Libel, against the Right Honourable the Lord Gerard of Brandon, His Majesty was pleased, out of His Clemency and Goodness, at the Request of the Lord Gerard, in August 1663, to grant a Warrant for their Releasement out of the Prison of The Fleete; whereupon the Petitioners sent to them, to demand the ordinary and accustomed Fees due upon the Releasement of all Delinquents; but, instead of Satisfaction, had the Return of an absolute Denial, accompanied with high and threatening Language, as appeared by an Information:"
