The Peers retired, to robe themselves.

The Lord Keeper acquainted the House, "That His Majesty hath issued out a Commission, under the Great Seal of England, for the further Prorogation of this Parliament."

Then the Lord Keeper, Archbishop of Cant. Marquis of Worcester, Earl of Bridgwater, Earl of Essex, Lord Arlington, Lord Newport, and the Lord Ashley, Eight of the Commissioners, sitting upon a Form cross the House after the usual Manner, the Lord Keeper commanded the Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod to give Notice of the said Commission to the Commons, that they may come up, to be present at the Reading thereof.

And accordingly the Commons came up, but without a Speaker.

Then the said Commission was read, as follows:

Commission for proroguing the Parliament.

"CAROLUS REX.

Octavo die Maii, Anno Regni Nostri Tertio Decimo, inchoari & teneri ordinaverimus, À quo die idem Parliamentum Nostrum per separales Prorogationes usque ad & in Decimum Quartum diem Februarii, Anno Regni Nostri Vicesimo Secundo, continuatum fuerat; quo die idem Parliamentum Nostrum tunc & ibidem tentum fuerat; posteaque, scilicet, Vicesimo Secundo die Aprilis, Anno Regni Nostri Vicesimo Tertio, idem Parliamentum Nostrum ulterius prorogatum fuerat ad & in instantem Decimum Sextum diem Aprilis, apud Westm. tunc tenendum & prosequendum: Sciatis modÙ, quod, certis urgentibus Causis & Considerationibus Nos specialiter moventibus, idem Parliamentum Nostrum ulterius prorogandum duximus. De Fidelitate igitur, Prudenoâ, & Circumspectione vestris plurimÙm confidentes, de Avisamento & Assensu Consilii Nostri, assignavimus vos Commissionarios Nostros, dantes vobis, & aliquibus Tribus vel pluribus vestrum, Tenore præsentium, plenam Potestatem & Auctoritatem, hoc instante die Martis, ad Parliamentum Nostrum prædictum, Nomine Nostro, ad & in Tricesimum diem Octobris jam proxime futuri, usque prædictam Civitatem Nostram Westm. prorogandum & continuandum, ibidemque tunc tenendum & prosequendum; & ideo vobis mandamus, quod circa præmissa diligenter intendatis, ac ea in Formâ prædictâ effectualiter expleatis. Damus autem universis & singulis Archiepiscopis, Ducibus, Marchionibus, Comitibus, Vicecomitibus, Episcopis, Baronibus, Militibus, Civibus, & Burgensibus, ac omnibus aliis quorum interest ad dictum Parliamentum Nostrum conventuris, Tenore præsentium, firmiter in Mandatis, quod vobis in præmissis faciend. agend. & exequend. pareant, obedient, & intendant, prout decet. In cujus Rei Testimonium, has Literas Nostras fieri fecimus Patentes.

Then the Lord Keeper said,

"My Lords and Gentlemen,

Parliament prorogued.

"By virtue of His Majesty's Commission, we do in His Majesty's Name prorogue this Parliament to the Thirtieth Day of October next; and this Parliament is prorogued to the Thirtieth Day of October next."
